FYI, we did the cleaning of the computer and it wasn't very dusty at all. Surprised me because it's been too long since we did it. Still having the problem of it cutting off, sometimes it will come back to the same place and sometimes I have to reboot. Also can't watch NetFlix or Hulu. I don't have any problems with YouTube. So far I've done the following: Defragged Disc CleanUp Ran these programs that we've been running for a long time, the paid versions. Malwarebytes AVG Antivirus Super AntiSpyware While they've all gotten rid of a lot of 'unneeded stuff', they haven't solved the problem. I'm at my wit's end here. Any other ideas? do you mean you lost all your restore points or that it is not willing to go back to a restore point? Not sure exactly what you mean. If I remember you use xp please always tell us your windows version as they have different instructions. Here are the instructions for xp How To Use System Restore in Windows XP

I just had to do this on my new HP with Win 8.1. The documentation wasn't as helpful as I expected. It seemed reasonable that the backup routine could have told me exactly how much space I would need, but it didn't. Gee thanks! It turned out to require something like 19 gig. 19 is bigger than 16 (duh), so if you use a memory stick, you would require a 32 gig unit. With dvd discs, you would need four discs. If you attempted to use cd discs, you would need perhaps five times more discs. No one would want to do that. Since you have a new HP, I assume you have HP Support Assistant. It has a section with a Backup instruction and routine to actually perform the backup.

Finally, my restore issue is SOLVED. I spent countless hours investigating this to no avail. Took it to a technician who found that Dell has their own backup/restore on the same C drive (called PRB) so when I tried to create a restore point, there wasn't enough space because it was trying to restore from 2 places on the same drives (like a mirror), if that makes sense. He disabled the Dell one, and whalla...it now restores as it should. Case closed.
