Some Painted Projects

Painted a couple of items today that belong in the kitchen so thought I'd share some of my latest painting projects with all of you.

Oh Punk! Such talent! I love the hearts on the first 2 pieces. And the expression on the little snowman's face is just precious!

I love them all, but he is my favorite.

You and Luvs sure are talented with a paint brush. Makes me wish I had the time to try it.

I have, at the deep end of that closet, one of those gray metal "garage shelves" style of shelving unit. And like all other "utility shelves," it has way too much space between shelves. Here's how I added shelves NEAT-O IDEA NO. 3 Fortunately, the corner poles have holes for bolting the shelves into place. So I measured the space between the end supports, and sent DH to Home Depot to buy that ClosetMaid shelving for closets (white-coated wire, w/ a dropped lip in the front), because they will cut it to size for you at HD. And I had him pick up some cable ties. I fastened those shelves in place by threading a cable tie through the hole for the bolts. I moved one of the metal shelves down by 4 inches to eliminate headroom. Note how little "air" there is between shelf and box, on all shelves. And you can see where the white shelves are interspersed. I toyed w/ the idea of installing the shelves w/ the lip in the back (so it would be out of the way), but decided it was sagging too much and needed the reinforcement. (it prob. sags in the back, but you can't see it). I'm thinking of putting a third shelf in, placing it in the top gap. That would let me put the very flat boxes there each on their own shelf. If I do that, I will very definitely flip the shelf so that lip is in the back. There won't be much on it that's heavy.

You probably will want to back brush the coating on the deck. You can roll with an extension pole mounted to a roller frame, and just bend over to backbrush after the paint has been applied with the roller. You want to try to not work in the sun if possible and only do 1-3 boards at a time depending on how fast the material is drying. One coat is not enough if you are painting over raw wood. Two coats is best, even over a previously painted deck. The fastest way to paint lattice is with a Whizz type roller. The Whizz is nice because one end is actually wrapped with the roller material so that you can get some of the edges while you are rolling the face. Work in small sections, use a brush to hit what the roller cannot and be sure to check the backside for drips as you go if that is a concern. Painting lattice is a chore no matter what, even for the pros. It is possible to spray it, but if it is cedar or something porous you want to backbrush/backroll for best penetration of the paint. The best way to keep doors from breaking down outside is to maintain them. Perhaps coat them once per year. Also, prime and paint all sides, including the tops and bottoms. This will help to keep moisture out. Moisture is the #1 reason paint peels prematurely.

Thank you all so much for the positive feedback. I really appreciate your kind words :) Punk - Thank you for the privacy suggestion. I'm new to the whole Photobucket thing so how do I make my account private? I changed each of my photo albums to private but didn't see how to change the account itself. To answer your question about the brown on the gingerbread ornament -First I removed the tops, put the ornaments upside down on wooden skewers, then I poked the wooden skewers into a block of florist foam to hold them while they dried between each step. I cleaned them with rubbing alcohol and then primed them with a gray spray primer. After the primer dried I basecoated them with Delta Camel. Then I used a dampened sea sponge triple loaded with Delta Camel, Spice Brown, and Dark Brown, and just sort of pounced it around until I liked the way it looked. Hope that helps. Luvs - You are much better with the artist's names than I am LOL. I see things I like, buy the book or pattern and then it usually ends up sitting on a shelf for a very long time before I go back to it again. I can say though that Renee Mullins is my current favorite. Her designs always make me smile. The gingerbread ornament was kind of a mixture of a couple of different gingerbread faces. I mostly paint just for myself. I have given a few things as gifts and am only just now beginning to feel confident enough to consider trying to sell some items. Although I have no idea how to figure out pricing or where to sell them so that will be something for me to work toward.

Very cute Punk. I agree with Betty, both you and Luvs, are so talented. How wonderful to take a 'plain ole thing' and turn it into something special. I love the little snowman too. He's really cute.

Punk is one of my "buddies" over on the Painting forum, but we all agree that her forum name should be "Speedy". This girl can whip out three projects while I'm just getting started on my first one! LOL

She's already told us that she has quite a few dishes, so we need to encourage her to set a pretty table and share them with us--if she ever has a spare minute--she's a really busy gal too.

Punk, love it that you are sharing your creations with all of us. Isn't it fun to have friends to share with when you are all excited about finishing a project? My DH always gives me compliments on finished projects, but it's nice to have others see them too. ;o)

Well, it's hard to say which one is the best one... Well, I will say, the first one as I'm crazy about old things (in addition to small villages and glasses). But I really like the Santa one... and the snowman also... and the fall in love too.

OMG! Can't say which one is the most beautiful but I know for a fact that Luvs and you are great artists!

Thank you so much for all the sweet comments. It's fun to see what others like the best. I love santas so it's my favorite. OA, no I didn't paint all of them in one day. Luvs likes to call me speedy but in all honesty I painted the recipe box and jar in one day. The santa and scarecrow each took a day of their own or at least several hours. You should come on over and check out our neck of the woods once in awhile. We'd enjoy that. Our painting forum isn't as busy but we enoy it.

I'm glad I can paint something for your enjoyment cuz I love looking at all your beautiful tables and decorations. Punk

I was just going to ask if you and Luvs were painting pals from that forum . . . I was right! Punk, you do great work. I especially love your Santa plate. These are going to be fun Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons getting to see both of your painting projects for each!
