I'm no pro, but that doesn't look normal for a new shower. I could understand after months or a year or two, but what are we talking, a couple weeks? Just to confirm, the spots on the grout were not present immediately after install, correct? What kind of water does your house have? Maybe the pros can weigh in, but that doesn't look normal to me. I have white grout on my shower walls and after a year they are still white. The only areas I see small color variations is at the bottom where the floor meets the wall tile.

We used Maipei "Frost." It's a very, very light gray, but IMO it "reads" as white. It provides a teeny tiny bit of contrast from the subway tile so that you can see the edges/pattern of the tile. But it's not dark at all. My problem with white is that to my eye, it appears slightly yellow. When we were re-tiling 3 upstairs bathrooms this Spring, I made the mistake of choosing white for 1 bathroom, and after it was done, I immediately changed to Frost for the other 2. The Frost looks a lot better. You can have your tile pro make you a sample board to confirm your choice.

Wow. Handsome tiles...I'm assuming the top is embossed with the pattern? If I'm reading the description properly, this is going to grab ANY soap residue, skin residue, soap residue or shaving residue and never let go! I would not put this anywhere near an area that could get as much action as a shower wall. Anything that is heavily textured AND feels 'rough' will be an excellent growth medium for ever mold spore (and some forms of algae) when used in a wet area like a shower wall. As a flooring tile, it will be HE!! to get clean. Imagine every 'pull' of the mop leaving behind a brown shadow of mud...every time the dirty water hits a ridge of the pattern. And white grout...turns grey very quickly. Just because a product is 'rated' for a wet area (like a shower wall) doesn't mean it is a good idea. For $10+ per square foot for the tile, you can do very well for your self - especially if you stop shopping at Home Depot. Specialty tile shops have DOZENS of magnificent tiles for $10-$11/sf.

the only other way to get a diff color would be if he used an AdMixture to the grout instead of water. But it's highly unlikely. If it's normal cementious grout, he would use water from the hose. What they mean about diff colors is if you partially grout one day, and don't finish. Then the next day you come back and mix up a new bucket of grout. (using the same bag of grout). The problem is, if you don't use exactly the same amount of water, the same temp of the water, and the temp outside isn't the same as yesterdays batch of grout, that grout will slightly differ in color. But it's not going to suddenly go from white to tan! it's just that those two white shades will be slightly diff right next to each other.
