Shower's Tile Grout Will Not Turn White!
Comments (9)Looks like your post is from last year. Did you ever find a solution? I sympathize with you. We installed white tile with white grout in our bathrooms (15 years ago)- sealed them with super cheap sealant. They get dirty, but clean very easily with a little bleach and water. In the family room/kitchen we have off white tile with beige grout (different brand than the white we used in the bathrooms because that brand did not have a good match). Since it was in the kitchen, we used a higher end sealant. The grout in those areas- including that which isn't directly in the kitchen and isn't subject to as much staining- is horrible. It discolors and turns grey and looks like it has oil stains in it, and bleach doesn't touch it. The only thing I've found that seems to clean it well is scrubbing bubbles and a grout brush- surprisingly little work if the scrubbing bubbles sit for a few minutes, but then it discolors again in no time. I'm convinced it was the brand of grout and have mostly given up hope on finding a reasonable way to keep it clean....See MoreWhich grout color for white subway tile in shower?
Comments (38)All of the tile I used for my bathrooms and kitchen came from RAI Design in Garden City, NY. Specifically I used their light blue penny round tile in the shared bathroom and for my backsplash in the kitchen I used their tile called “Soho”. The “Soho” tile dimensions are labeled as 2x10 but the actual measurements of the tile are about 2.25x9.75. Not too big or too small and the white color is not too bright so as to compete with my white cabinets. I looked at SO MANY white tiles and this one was the best dimensions and color, and rather inexpensive, too. I highly recommend RAI if you are not too far from NY....See MoreNeed help after grouting tile...Grout color covered white tile...
Comments (27)Yvette Im sorry your upset, It does look lighter in todays photos to me. You have very poor photo quality and in truth you are comparing a Showroom floor with white marble or glass contrast relfecting and a complete different lighting schematic to your tub alcove. There is some solice in lighting. This is repeated on these forums time and again. Stone itself comes in dye lots and VERIES drastically. Stone wicks moisture, from thinset substrate and grout as it cures it gets darker before it lightens. Some thinsets can take 30 days to fully cure, some portland grouts do normalize over 7-10+ days. and there is a dozen things that can go wrong with hand mixed and installed grout. I cannot see close enough the details of your install but I can tell you I have had to watch sales people at tile shops like a hawk in that they are usually not a person to take advise from. Can you be 100% certain they sold you the proper color/brand or did they sell you something similar to sell you something. ? You should have more recourse if you Payed a tile professional to source and purchase the materials themselves grout included and if you have a contract and stayed hands off. One thing homeonwers dont consider when they get involved with these things is the importance of putting all the liability in the contractors hands to afford recourse. People that do the shopping finding deals choosing materials, and then hiring labor have little to no recourse so i hope thats not you.. I suggest further patience and see how it lightens, play with lighting and start to focus on other aspects of your room.....See MoreWhite Carrara marble tile looks yellow/brown. help!
Comments (10)Yes they were installed already. He used white thin set. I’ll see if there are any sheets left and what happens if it’s wet. No you’re right, they weren’t completely white. But some of my tile now is so dark after it’s been installed. And some is still very light like the original. Can you see my pic that I’ve posted up top?...See MoreBeth H. :
