PC card from AT & T wireless..., who's using it?

I've been reading old threads here and gathering info. I talked (phone)to an AT&T rep who said no contracts, the card was $99., with a $99. rebate. She also said I needed to check the webpage to get much more info.

Well all the info I found said a 2 yr contract was required and $49.95 after rebate. My dial-up is so slow even with the 'booster' that I'm weary from sitting on AT&T's webpage. I'm going to try the phone again, but was hoping that perhaps some forum members might be using this service and give me some info. TIA. Sheila

I know nothing of the service from AT & T since I do not receive their signal where I live, but Verizon and Sprint are both very active with this service. As far as I know, all carriers require a contract, usually a 2 year contract. There are various devices for connecting, including USB, PC Express, and the older PCMCIA cards.

I plan to go with Verizon service soon as it became available in my area in November and I get a good EV signal on my phone. I'm hoping it will be much better than satellite, which I now have.

These services are not cheap.

Hi. Acquired the AT&T connect card in December and found that it wasn't any faster than dial-up at first. The representative said sometime in January I should see a substantial increase in speed after the upgrades were made from their end. As recently as a few days ago I called and asked when it would get faster and they said "soon." Well for the past two days my download speeds have increased from 4 to 5 kb/sec to between 15 and 20kb per second. It isn't just my imagination either but the internet is MUCH faster now than when I had dial-up. That is with just a "good" connection as opposed to "very good" or "excellent" connections which I sometimes get.

Even though it isn't as fast as DSL or cable yet I've been told that it is just a matter of time before those speeds will be available. Overall I am very happy with the service and only expect it to get better. After 15 years of dial-up this is like a million dollars to a blue collar worker.

I don't believe you would be disappointed in getting the card. Regards.

After you connected the USB cable from the camera to the computer, you did turn the camera on - right? And the batterry had enough charge. I have the same setup except on a desktop: Windows 7 professional, Canon PowersShot SX50 HS. A hint: Instead of turning on the camera with the ON/OFF power button, press the review button. Its to the right of the viewfinder window. This powers up the camera for viewing images on the card without activating the lens and auto-focusing stuff - saves battery power. Next on you computer, click (or double click depending on you settings) on "Computer". This should bring a panel showing all your hard drives, USB ports and the camera. Click on the camera to open a panel showing the folders or files on the SD card. Navigate down to the folder with the desired images; also arrange to have open the folder where you wish to copy the images to. You can right-click and hold down on a file to drag it to the "to" panel. release the mosue button. a small pop-up menu appears - choose copy here. Careful: Do not choose "move to here". That will make a copy in the "to" panel and delete the file in the camera.

Don't know your actual need.. Guess you've tried wifi 802.11b/g and looked for access at perhaps the McDonalds, Starbucks and other access points (some free, some login with credit card). (Many of the computer shops have open access weakly available in their parking area)

Snidely, you are new around here?? The regular volunteers on this forum have helped me over the years, so many times, I can't begin to count. I remember coming here a long time ago when I wanted to learn how to cut/paste. I think a Google search brought me to this forum. YES! The best suggestion is PE Design Basic..has the reader/writer box & card that you can use over & again....can view the design images on your computer. You can shop for the best price at Walmart on line, Amazon, Allbrands, ebay---lots of possibles--and it should cost in the neighborhood of $100. Little more or little less, just shop around. It is the best! I have it, my friend uses it with her 8500--it only writes .pes designs, but you should D/L a free format converter so you can change other design formats to .pes. Sometimes you want a design that does not come in your format. Good luck and ENJOY!

Thx for the replies. I want to check out Sprint. My neighbor has a phone and says she gets good service at her place (2 mi away from me). I wanted AT&T because I thought there would be a price break since we have our cl phones with them. Since that's not the case, I'll go with whichever phone gives me the best results.

I ordered mine yesterday because I just can't take the slow dialup any longer. I hope it's as reliable as my AT&T wireless phone service. The tech I spoke with said that the signal is broadcast from the same cell towers. It is less expensive at $59 a month than paying for a land line and dialup service.

I wanted to report back on the ATT service, or my experience with it. I got the USB connect Sierra 881U modem to use with my desktop. It is about 10 times faster than my dialup connection was. I live in a remote location, with no access to cable, dsl and satellite won't be reliable because I don't have clear access to the southern sky. The monthly service is $59.99 and after rebate, I got the modem for $49. A definite win-win for me.

Thx for the 'report back' Pam. Will we have new email addys? I now use my dial-up server for my email. I can't wait to get hooked up on my laptop!

There was no email included with my service, but I use my hotmail, yahoo and gmail accounts so I really did not need a new one. You will like the additional speed.
