Air card or satellite service

I'm presently on dail-up. Too slow. Can't get DSL where I live. A Verizon air card costs about the same as getting satellite service from my current provider; they would come out and install equipment at my house. Download speed is not guaranteed by either, but they estimate it at around 500kbs. I only use computer at home, so use while traveling is not important. Cost is about the same. I already have a Verizon cell phone.

Which is the better way to go?

Does one get e-mail via air card?
