Windows 7 Internet Security 2012

What harm, other than being a ( insert expletive here) nuisance, will the phoney "Windows Internet Security 2012" do to my computer/programs.

I intend to have it removed this week but in the meantime is it safe enough to use my computer.

My sister had that and phoned me when she couldnt use any program other than Internet Explorer.

What a pain once she got there.. simple if i was there, but i remotely fix computers... and if she cant start a share program .. it certainly was a painful experience for me to talk her thru this computer stuff over the phone long distance. Just to get her to the point of stick the usb memory stick in any usb slot.

Here is another delightful little message box that popped up on start-up to-day.

Windows cannot find c:\windows\system32\igfxtry.exe

I tried doing a search to see what this one was all about but the "Windows Internet Security 2012" blocked the search!!

Any ideas about this other gem?

Maybe read the whole article rather than just the mindset gossip of one employee who was probably chastised. You made it clear in the past you are a genuine Norton Fan. If you choose to go with one of the free ones like AVAST, which is what I use, you will have to go through the full removal of Kaspersky before the install of any other AV, there is a removal tool for it, if you need it just let me know and I can link you to it. do you have the full suite, AV and firewall or just AV? if the full suite you will need a new firewall also unless you have Vista or 7 and can use the windows firewall. If you are adept enough to install a dual boot setup with Linux, you certainly know how to remove trial and ad offerings that most new PCs ship with. No 'deptitude required. The Linux MINT installer told me it detected a Windows 7 installation and asked one question - whether to preserve the other OS or kill it - and created the dual boot installation for me when I said "preserve it". If I had not resized the slider, Win7 would have had half the disk, and Mint the other half. In my previous Linux experiences, most of the distributions assassinated the existing OS without asking permission. This refinement makes Mint a good distribution for anyone who wants to keep an existing Windows setup because they have some Windows-only software. Yes, removing the bundled "crapware" is easy. But, how would you remove the LENOVO ad that LENOVO inserted into the middle of the installation procedure? Without borking the install? It was a pointy-clicky minimal intervention required kind of installation, which is not true of all Linux distros. Mint is worth posting about in areas where novices hang out . Yes, I can get Libre Office, the GIMP, and all the rest for Windows by downloading and installing them ... the point is that I didn't have to. They "came with" the OS, as usual. Unless I need to do something most users don't, such as video editing, I had not only a working OS, but a system that could do real work with no further effort. Getting more software for Linux is usually just opening the software installer and clicking "Install" in what you want. I'm not sure what you've accomplished is an improvement and not just a change. Read the threads here about browser hijacking and viruses and malware and bad links and google for zero day exploits in Windows and IE. It's definitely an improvement, and perhaps knowing there is a easy to install Linux version out there may help someone get into a safer computing environment. Or update the OS on an old machine to get a couple more years out of it? Or get the whole office on a single OS without spending oodles of money? ========== NOTE: I'm a long-time Linux fan. The last Windows OS I installed as the primary OS on a personal machine was Windows 95, although various jobs have had Windows on the office computers. I have Windows only because some software I have to run can't work under WINE.

That is a very serious infection you will need assistance to remove it fully. Please go to this link, register and start your own post don't follow directions from other posts there. You will be guided through removal. This is not one to ignore.

Thank you both for your replies to my problem.
At the present time I am not that confident with my computer skills, to use the fix that you graciously supplied Owbist and will hold on to your linked information for now.
I did post the problem into the LanzDownForum, as suggested by Ravencajun, along with the requested logs, Etc.
As I stated before my computer skills are not great and because of my nervousness about screwing things up worse than they already are, I may have to call in an "expert" to assist me with all of this.

I do however appreciate both of you taking the time to help me out with this problem and the advice that you kindly give.

You can do it, many have thought the same but were successful with the expert guidance of the lzd team. Just take your time and ask questions if you need to.

As Raven notes, you can do this. As the help is offered simply read one line at a time and follow along. DO NOT read the whole thing and decide it cannot be done, one line at a time and steady as she goes. Move away if you feel overwhelmed and have a coffee or smoke, which ever acts to calm the nerves then return.

No. As far as I know it comes bundled with rootkits and spyware modules. This means cyber crooks can steal certain info, usually account/password and credit card details. Other information is considered junk. You should remove Win 7 Internet Security 2012 malware before using your PC. Below is a link to detailed removal guide. Very important: use TDSSKiller to remove rootkits; otherwise this malware will be re-downloaded. Kudos!

Stivimi, thank you for your interest and linked information.

At the present time I am going through the process of, hopefully, clearing that menace from my computer at the LanzDown site, which was suggested to me by Ravencajun.
They are a wonderful bunch of people over there, who give their time up voluntarily to assist folks such as myself, in dealing with these malicious intrusions which have sneaked into our computers.

Hopefully we will see a positive result soon.

Ravencajun, Owbist and Stivimi, thank you all for your direction and encouragement, when things went awry and I was well in over my head and in great need of assistance.

Corrine, (Mystical Rose)(Mystical indeed!) over at the LanzDown computer forum, brought me through a maze of scans and checks that I would have never have had the first idea about,all of which,cleared up the intrusion into my computer, by that disabling Win 7 Internet Security 2012 malware.

You are all special people for sure, for giving the assistance you all do....Thank you all again,

It is always best to go the route of help forum that way you can know exactly what you are doing and why and make sure it is all gone! Especially with these nasty ones that have rootkits involved.
