Are 60W enough for side vanity lights?
Comments (7)I almost installed 3 albion sconces at my double vanity: sconce-mirror-sconce-mirror-sconce. I only had one sconce so my electrician installed it in the center and I was waiting for the RH sale to buy the other two. Well, the single sconce did not emit enough light for me. It seemed too dim, despite my asking the electrician what he recommended. He thought 3 60w would be fine because they usually recommend 75w at each vanity. I don't know if the dimness came from the frosted white shade or if the bulb was not truly 60w, but I hated it. I couldn't imagine 2 more sconces would be brighten things up considerably so I had him remove the sconce and stick it by the toilet. There, it is a soft, not too bright light, perfect for nighttime visits to the bathroom! So I had the electrician install 3 Bryant sconces in the vanity area. This is a halogen bulb, I think also 60w equivalent. Let me tell you, what a difference in the light. The sconce also has a frosted glass shade but the light is much whiter and brighter than the incandescent in the Albion. If you'd like, I can take a picture for you. But I highly recommend going with something other than the Albion. As much as I wanted to stay away from halogen for the heat they emit, the light is much better for a vanity area, esp if you are applying makeup there (put them on a dimmer for better brightness control). Comments (2)Using another type of lamp is not always a good idea because the rating limit is intended to prevent excessive heat build up and a "retrofit" CFL with an integral ballast in the base can overheat in an enclosure. If you remove the enclosure you might be able to use 50w. PAR 20 halogen lamps. In general, I recommend using another location for lighting because such lights usually shine in your eyes especially if they are not frosted....See More2 fixtures with 2 40-watt bulbs ea enough light?

Comments (4)Dining area needs bright lighting. You may consider installing a small track-lighting, wherein you can hang three pendant lights above your dining table. Or a chandelier with 200-400 watts (two 100 watt bulbs, for 60 or 75 watt bulbs, eight 50 watt bulbs and so on). You may also try to multiply the square footage of the room which is 12x13 by 1.5 to determine the required amount of wattage. So if you have 12x13 dimension, you'll be needing a 234 watts. You can multiply it by 2.5 for task lighting....See More- 13 years ago
