My 2 cents, since nobody asked is that the forum is still a valuable resource and generally a pleasurable experience. I used retina's instructions and the flash ads went away. One extra click to find an email address is tolerable if iVillage has moved it to protect me from spammers, and that may well be what's up. I sent a message to the website hosts telling them they broke the "Remember Me" checkbox functionality and have asked them to fix it. Hey! Maybe that will work!! We'll see. Mary

Spoke too soon about Opera 10. I can't find anything to stop these and the vibrant media stuff, but that doesn't mean it isn't available. Maybe I'll figure it out. In the meantime, Chrome with "adthwart" is stopping them. So I'll use that for viewing this website.

I would make a guess that the virus modified or installed a registry key which is calling for the virus during boot and kicks out the error message when it can't start the virus program. You could spend a lot of time trying to find the right key to delete it, or you could try a registry cleaner. If you want to try the latter, I'd suggest running the cleanup and registry functions in CCleaner. Just be sure to backup before cleaning the registry. Here is a link that might be useful: CCleaner

Clean out your temporary internet files and temp files. Download TFC by OldTimer click Here to your desktop. Click the Save file tab, save it to the desktop. Then double click it to run it. Double-clickTFC.exe to run it. Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator TFC will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin * Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process. * Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. * Please let TFC run uninterrupted until it is finished. Once TFC is finished it should restart your computer. If it does not, please manually restart the computer yourself to ensure a complete cleaning.
