AVG, Spywareblaster--no updates?

I check for updates manually about once a week--since I'm on line only about once a week--and for the past two Mondays, longer on Spywareblaster, when I click on check for updates, both me a report "no new updates available". I know Spwrblster often will go a couple of weeks without updates, but it seems odd that AVG has none.

Am I the only one getting this report????

You can also perform updates using the Check for Updates option within the menu that opens after right mouse button clicking over the AVG icon located on the system tray.

You didn't say what version you currently have, but they are very close to being all the same. Open the AVG interface. Locate Options and click on it. Click on Advance Settings. In the appearing left pane click on the + for Schedules. The access for Program Updates and Definition Updates will appear on the tree and are independent. Select your target. The appearing window will allow you to select the time for your update or allow you to opt out of the automatic privilege. Since my system is on all the time the Program Updates are configured for 1:00 a.m. and the Definitions are configured for 5:00 a.m. DA

you can be offline for the scan but you must have the latest updates to AVG before you do the scans. Open the AVG program and hit update to make it get the latest updates if you need to.

Go ahead and turn it off if you so wish. The warnings on the interface are just alerts. The AVG icon on the System Tray/Notification Area will also show an alert on it. To remedy that alert open the application interface>Right click on the Update Manager>On the appearing menu click on the offering to ignore. Being on an antediluvian DUN I never have anything set to check automatically. DA

Thank you, Zep. I tried the right click method and got a tiny little update, so apparently all is well.

For about the last two-three weeks I have noticed AVG Free has not been having regular updates like it use to have. It has been truly noticeable. Before it was arguably updated daily. Now it is two-three days a week and the .dat files seem to be smaller.

I have used AVG for years and have still recommend it even though others might have found something else, but I am starting to wonder if something is afoot.

Historically speaking it seems when "free" applications have a major characteristic change something major all-to-often is about to occur.

I just checked and there was an update for Spywareblaster and I have AVG set for automatic and it said 'last update 1/11/10.'

We have to remember that automatic updating does not always mean "downloading and installing". It actually would refer to "checking" and if available then downloading and installing.

I do mine manually and did so today at 6:45 p.m. and that is what was reported on the interface (last update) even though nothing was D&I. I just tried again at 8:02 p.m. Nothing was D&I and the interface changed to the new time.

I check my AVG manually everyday when I turn the computer on and usually have some sort of update whether big or small. There was an update to the SpywareBlaster today... the first one since December 23.

in case some of you do not know there are several of the forums that provided calendars of updates that you can either subscribe to or check daily to know if your programs should have an update that day.

Calendar of Updates is the biggie COU the link is below.

LzD also has an area on the forum that is dedicated to update info

and BBR has a daily update on the security forum area

when in doubt please check these excellent resources.

Just wanted to share that once again the AVG Free downloads have been coming at their previous rate and at their normal size. Who knows why?
