Outlook Express Scratch Directory

Does Outlook Express have a scratch directory where I can deleted files? If so, please tell me where to find it.

What are you trying to do? Are you trying to recover deleted files from Outlook?

No, I am trying to delete files. My computer is getting pretty full and I was told I could go to Outlook's scratch directory to remove files held there. Is that true? Thanks Charlene

Cycad, I remember reading of your experiments and successes with imidacloprid back in 2004. I had used it with great success. I had a similar "discussion" with the 2 individuals at Mounts, rather Coop. Ext. When I demanded to find a copy of the UF research that stated that imidaclprid didn't work, there was no document. Furthermore, all subsequent literature that IFAS and other agents statewide would right would simply read as "previous research found that imidacloprid was ineffective" (NO RESEARCH AUTHOR NAME OR EXPERIMENT's PUBLISH DATE). My argument was based that in any scientific paper there is always a methodology and results section. If the general public cannot obtain the data and published paper from a state insitution, I think the whole "scientific process" that was used is faulted. When you publish scientifically, anyone else who follows your same experimental model as you share in the methodology should yield the same results and same conclusions. Thus, there is validity in your conclusion. IFAS thinks we're all idiots/droids, and thus never does any legitimate parenthetical referencing so you can find out the who/what/how/when aspects of the very research our taxes fund and we like to know about and learn from! IFAS also perpetuates the myth that Orange Geiger is a Florida native, too.

Seems to me that by using 3 browsers you are creating problems for yourself. Each can do anything you need so why not settle on one and use it exclusively? Photos should show in MY Pictures the same way as they did in XP. Right click on the Start button then click to open Windows Explorer in the pop up, you should see the same XP type screen with folders down the left side and the contents of the highlighted folder listed on the right side. Double clicking on a photo should bring the photo up full size in Windows Picture Viewer where you can click arrows to move left or right or click the centre button to have the photos in a slideshow. As regards Microsoft Office do you have the stripped down free version or the real McCoy on a 60 day trial? If a 60 day trial version and you do not want it you can use Wordpad for word processing. You can reach that by Clicking Start, click All programs, click Accessories click Wordpad. Not sure what format Wordpad uses but be sure you set it to .rtf (Rich Text format) so that anyone else can read it on any computer. Or you can download the free Open Office for the full suite or if just a word processor there is Abiword also for free.

Always nice to have conversation! I'd like to change one comment I made. I suspect smartphone email use is very high. How high, I don't know, but almost every public and private system of any size accommodates their use with special access and apps. Google's Mail Fetcher will combine up to 5 different email accounts into one, so that you can access them all in one place. When you do "reply", you can change the return address so it looks to have come from the other "remote" account. I suspect you could do more than 5 by cascading the accounts, but no one should need more than a few email accounts. If that's wrong, let me know! grandms, my comments had nothing to do with work vs private use. Awkward is awkward, easy is easy. Make yourself happy with however you want to go about your mail tasks. I was just trying to offer a suggestion to people having questions or trouble trying to do something that they may not have known was unnecessary DA, if your governmental agency didn't want web access used, they could turn it off. I suspect the reason is an attempt to decrease the load on their system by offloading some of the work to the client software. Mudlady, keep up the good attitude. Be open to new ways, that's what technological advances are all about. Without those advances, you'd still be struggling away with that Zenith and getting by without all the great functionality today's online world offers. Those changes seem to have been ok with you, you may be more open to change than you think.

The problem you have is that the links to the pictures are pointing to your hard drive. For example: canada_blk.gif is pointing to file:///D:/frontpagexpress/touchup%20attempt/canada_blk.gif, it should be just canada_blk.gif if it is in same directory as the html file. Also it doesn't look like the gif file is actually on the web site. At least not in the home directory of your web site. So you actually have two reasons why the pictures do not show on the web, but shows on your computer. 1. The link is incorrect, 2. The gif files are not on the web site. You said you used SmartFTP to upload the pages. You should use the publish from the File menu (I have Front Page, but I don't use it). That way I think it will resolve the links for you and get everything you need up to the web server in one shot. Also if you actually have a directory called 'touchup attempt', rename it so it does not have a space. Notice in the above example there is %20 (hex value of space) is in place of the space. Dan

Sorry I don't know anything about outlook's scratch directory, others here are very knowledgeable about outlook and may offer assistance.

If my computer were getting full I would check the My Doc. folder and start getting rid of old files, photos, word doc's that your not using then I would remove programs no longer used in the add/remove programs list. Then click Start- programs -accessories- System tools--> Do a Disc clean-up and the a defrag.

Do you know how big the hard drive is? And how much free space is left? Windows should have 20% FREE SPACE..

Forgot to tell you how to check the hard drive size and amount of free space:

Open My computer and just put your mouse over (LOCAL DISC)-- A little window will pop up and tell you the size of the drive and amount of free space left.

You can also right click on it and get a picture of it and other information as well.

Thanks Zep, My programs are down to the core only the ones I regularly use. I am trying to move photos, files, etc to a disc but have encountered a problem I hope you can help me with.

When I try to send a file to C: I get the following message:
Windows encountered a problem when trying to copy this folder. What do you want Windows to do?

I can't transfer anything over to a disc. Help please!

I have 32.7 GB unused space and 38.7 GB used space with a capacity of 71.5 GB.

You don't want to send them to c:/ there already there. You want to send them to your cd drive, see the link it covers quite a bit. It mentions you should have a drive that can write files cd-rw ect

Also use google to help it may cover areas that I don't know about the pc...

Google things like "Copy files to cd using xp"

"Drag & drop files to cd using xp"

I have used nothing but OE for years and it is very simple, but i have never heard of a scratch directory. i just highlight the email i want to delete, right click on the highlighted area and choose delete or use delete on the tool bar. you can also empty the delete folder by opening the folder, then click on edit and choose delete.

You can make a SCRATCH folder in Outlook express which will
be in the same place as the inbox, sent, etc. click on view
and then click on GO TO FOLDER. At the top of the drop down
box click at the top to unexpand the list then at the right
you should see NEW FOLDER. Click on this and then enter a name for the folder. Usa SCRATCH if you want to. Go back to the inbox and then when you want to MOVE or COPY an email to
the SCRATCH folder right click on the email title and them
choose move or copy. when you choose the SCRATCH folder name and click OK it will be transferred to that folder.
This allows you to SAVE emails if this is what you waht to do. HTH John

Thanks ya'll!! DUH, my problem is in not remembering you have to burn the files on a disc not copy them to the disc in my F drive, which is where mine is. I didn't mean to say my C drive, that happens when my fingers type faster than I can think!!! LOL
Thanks John, not gonna make a scratch folder if I don't already have one. My problem is I think I have to save every little word..and have to many files saved.
