I did not caulk our vanities (both furniture style) to the wall, for a variety of reasons that I will not confess, but mostly because I don't like the way it looks. If it's supposed to be furniture, then by golly, it shouldn't be caulked, IMHO.

However, the walls behind are tile and grouted completely, as is the floor, and I believe I have read that it may be code- some will caulk just for inspection ;-*

I agree, Pepperidge. In fact I was horrified at the prospect of my vanity being caulked. I really love its design and clean lines and I wanted to treat it the way it deserves -- which is, as a furniture piece!

My vanity is flush against two walls (back wall and left side wall of the bathroom), and in the meantime, baseboards are in place, as a result of which it is kind of held in place with baseboards. Not a whole lot of obstruction to a movement (esp since I live in the land of 7.4 quakes), but an additional fixer would be when plumbing is set up (sink has yet to go in place).

So, the options I was considering were to screw them into the wall like a floating vanity, OR just leave it there as is, with two baseboards and the plumbing attached to the wall. I am currently leaning towards option #2.

Any thoughts on pros/cons of each? Once again, I appreciate all the help.

bumping this thread. My new vanity was caulked to the tiled walls (back wall and side wall, since it's in a corner). If I had been asked before they did it, I would have said NO. But, it's been done, and the caulk is already looking dirty to me, and it's only been one month! Do I have the option to remove the caulk? Is that a messy proposition? OR is there something I can use to make it look better? TIA
