Sprinkler backflow test cock conneting to air compressor question
Comments (5)Four years later, In case anyone else stumbles upon this, here's some more helpful details vs. "I found an adapter". The test cock threads on the Febco 765 are "flared". I'm not a plumber but I was told the intent by Febco is to use flared threads to discourage direct air compressor hookups to the test cocks even though 90% of people use them for this purpose. So, it takes a special adapter to screw on the threads of the test cock. If you go the route I did and first try to fit a $4 1/8 inch female adapter from Lowe's, you'll quickly notice that the threads don't fit (like a previous responder wrote). The part I found is called "1/4 Inch Male Pipe X 1/4 inch Female Flare Brass Adapter". I found it at an irrigation store for $7 so I'm unsure if it is available at the big box Home stores. Hope this helps the next person that is very confused by threading issues on the Febco 765. Good luck....See Moredumb question about soil testing for engineered foundation
Comments (16)Wow, thanks so much for all the input. I asked the city inspector about the perc test and he said it wasnt needed since we arent needing a septic system. I called around to differant engineers but they all seem to be in the same price range .10 to .30 a sqaure foot. I chose the engineer we are going with because he is familiar with the city of selma and has done some work for other people in my neighborhood. We arent dealing with rock (luckily). My future neighboor is a general contractor who built his home and the neighbor's to our other side and he said that around here it is general practice to just figure out what kind of soil we are building on...nothing to technical. Hmm...??? I dont know it seems like we do things differant here in texas or maybe just in this small city. Doesnt seem like its a good thing though... On the upside, pricing is great around here. I have gotten some pretty in depth quotes from differant builders ranging from $118,000 to $148,000 for about a 2300 sq ft home. Our lot costs $21,000 (1/2 acre). Its not anything to impressing but its our first home and our dream home. The only upgrades are travertine tile through out the house and granite counter tops, those were some of my most important wants (not needs by any means)....See MoreCoffeemaker, drip or perc, need rec
Comments (17)"I love my vintage GE percolator. It uses the same principle to make coffee as a the stove top percolators you see in Italy-- and the Italians know a thing or two about good coffee!" Yes, they do know a thing or two about coffee, and that's why they don't use percolators -- they use moka pots! ;-) -- Moka Pot -- Coffee Percolator Not really the same principal, other than they're both stove-top appliances. A moka pot sends the hot water through the coffee grounds once, and the resulting brew is held in the non-heated upper chamber until consumption. A percolator circulates hot water through coffee grounds over and over again. That's why percs get knocked by the 'geeks. However that doesn't mean that the OP shouldn't try a percolator, as they would be able to find one very cheap at a second-hand store......See MoreSoil test questions
Comments (38)morpheuspa, I know it has been a long time since I replied to this thread, but I missed the "October 15: Apply 3 pounds of Epsom salt per thousand square feet. Apply 3 pounds of potassium sulfate per thousand square feet." I was going to go ahead and apply it now both the epsom salt and the potassium sulfate, is that ok? If I do apply now, do I still go ahead and apply the 2nd round of salt on May 15 as stated in your guidance? Also, I had asked about if the grass greens up earlier should I apply earlier. It is definitely green now and in full swing...some of the Bermuda never completely went dormant this season because it wasn't that cold here. You said" "Play this one by ear, in other words. If it's green and growing on April Fool's Day, you can back the starter fertilizer to then, drop the second one in May, and return to nitrogen fertilization in June. The actual dates don't matter so much, the amount is all that really matters (and the time between to give some absorption period)." When you said drop the second one in May, do you mean not to do the epsom salt on 5/15, or are you saying to apply starter on 4/1 and then don't put any more fertilizer down until June? If so, can you please let me know why that is because originally you had me doing starter for 5/1, 6/1, and 7/1. thank you!...See Morejmagill_zn4
