To reduce spam at my preferred email address, I want to forward from Hotmail to those addresses that I do not completely trust. But Hotmail will not let me delete the previous addresses shown within the message. Deleting is easily done in Outlook Express. My solution has been to open a new message and copy/paste selected portions from the old one. Anyone know how to delete/edit directly in Hotmail?

Hi Bus Driver,
Are you talking about editing the 'From' field? When I log into my hotmail web account (Windows Live website)and click Reply to an email, there is actually a drop down to select the email address or add one that is not in the list. Maybe I don't understand what you are asking.

Doing a left click on "Forward" puts the previous "To" and "From" addresses into the body of the message that will be forwarded. OE permits deleting those directly by highlighting and deleting. I cannot find a way to do that (directly delete) with Hotmail. Hotmail will highlight, but will not delete.

It was a lot of work trying to find the "where" to add a contact. But I found it (Hotmail / Outlook). Go the following link "after you have already logged into your hotmail account": https://people.live.com/ You can add your new contact here at any time, don't have to wait for an email to come in from your new contact, at the top of the page you just click on "New" and you will get the fields to add your new contact. It seems a dumb way of doing it, I couldn't find any other way. I hope this helps.

Me and computers have our problems and I just now realized I lost the same line. I finally found the problem. If you click on the symbol for "full page screen" at top right you will probably have the line back. It is between the - and the X. Good luck!

I use Windows Live Mail that gets my server mail. There are 2 ways to block it in there. I maybe get one spam a year, it usually something I have done to receive it. It is not because I blocked it. A tech from my server told me to make a unique email address and it will stop most spam. He said he didn't get any spam. A lot of people say this doesn't work but it does for me. I make an addy that only makes sense to me using an old street address number mixed in with my initials alternating numbers and letters.

It seems you dont automatically have an @outlook.com email address unless you create an alias it seems. Otherwise it shouldn't have allowed me to make an alias matching my hotmail email username . I think I have a lot of alias names there. If it should disallow adders ... it should be simple enough to make another email account and auto-forward... to the one main account so not to be bothered with checking two accounts. I really hate to use email to anything other than those I know, excpt when I must ... and some I know I definitely have to give an alias because they will have me plagued with invitations to facebook, linkedin, and all the places that they will unknowingly share their address book with. Outlook.com .. looks much the same as hotmail .. minor changes to the original artistic beauty of their pages,, with mostly the same old location and functions of clicks :) .

I know what you mean. You hit forward and it will not let you then delete all the addys. I have found this to always be the situation when I want to forward something sent me from an @aol email addy, and possibly from an @aim addy. I just forget forwarding anything from them...sigh.

Emails from most other folks can be deleted by using the forward button, going down to the top of the message to reply, and then holding down the delete key until they are all gone.

I too use Hotmail directly, without OE.

I just tried one and was able to delete the body written original from/to header. Highlight, give highlight focus, press delete keyboard key.
I'm using the online live basic version(used to-be hotmail, not the advanced Live one.

"give highlight focus". What is that and how does one do it? I have just been highlighting and then hit the delete key- nothing. I highlight, right click, and then click delete in the mini-window- nothing. Poor quality freebies do not win friends, MSN could do better.

That's what I'm doing also, and zip...it does nothing.

And now I see it isn't just with AOL...I tried to forward an email with a gmail addy, and it would not delete either.

I highlight then follow with a double click so it stays highlighted no matter where you move the mouse ,,, gives that highlight area the keyboard focus.

I'm struggling with a new laptop touch pad with out the keyboard wobble stick ,,, I'm used to a wobble stick ... I miss my wobble stick. highlights are a bit of a pain for me right now, cant find a friendly touch sensitivity point.

Ok...I drag mouse and highlight it and release mouse, then hit delete on the keyboard.

or

Highlight by dragging mouse over what I want to delete and release mouse, then right click, choose delete and nothing.

So Mikie...you highlight it with the left mouse drag...correct? Then you double click what? the right mouse? the left?
Are you using XP or what?

I have the free version of Hotmail, so I guess it it the basic.

I have to think about this left and right stuff as i havent regulary used a mouse in some years ...

I would left double tap/drag to highlight and then a normal left double click to release the mouse from the highlighted area.

Actually, my right click is a single tap on the bottom right of the touch pad with my right finger and my left click is my right finger too, just not on the lower right :)
