If you like seeing Halloween decorating, just a reminder that the HGTV Halloween Block Party is on. Three families, three houses, three designers, and three different Halloween themes=lots of great ideas for decorations, food, and fun!

I missed it last night, Luvs. Hope DD remembered to record it. How did it go? I'm a member of Eddie Ross' blog, so I was particularly wanting to see what he came up with. Eddie is an incredibly creative designer!

I love his blog too, Lynn, he does wonderful things and is a great bargain shopper. I think all three homes turned out wonderful and each very different. Sure hope you get to see it too, then we can chat about it more. Luvs

Thanks Celeste! It's like a block party here on Halloween night. Some of the kids I recognize every year cause they come back to see what is in the yard and the dogs of course. 2 years I have had puppies and probably could have put them in the pillow cases! This house is so old and decrepit it looks like a haunted house! And I leave the leaves on the yard for my plants so it is even scarier! The little ones like to come up on the porch and pet the Halloween cats; the only ones I am not allergic to. I remember many nights in this neighbourhood out Halloweening in the snow. When I was a kid we got a lot of homemade treats and I still remember the signature treats from the moms around here. I grew up with my neighbour next door and her BD is Oct 30 so we have a real blast at Halloween. Any leftover candy goes to my DH and Dad in the nursing home. He has the best chocolate stash! Not so much fun decorating for Christmas since we often have 3 feet of snow by then and -30c! I only remember one brown Christmas in this house and I think it was 1967. Actually the idea came to me some time ago: 1. A hot dog is a hot dog, itÃ¢ÂÂs a Ã¢ÂÂlow-rentÃ¢ÂÂ Ã¢ÂÂball-parkÃ¢ÂÂ food item even if you wrap bacon around it. How do you make a gourmet appetizer dog? 2. Hot dogs can taste good, but too much fat, and sodium. Of course you can cut a hot dog in half lengthwise, but you will lose a few friends that way. I needed a way of making a hot dog with less meat without making people feel that they are being cheated. 3. How do you make kids eat asparagus? So I came up with this idea, and developed a gadget to make the hot dog tubes precisely and quickly. Interestingly even with a lot of the meat removed, you still get the good feeling that you are eating a hot dog. When you serve it on homemade bun/bread, ------- that elevates the lowly weenie from an underdog to royal connoisseur appetizer status. I agree with Jo, there are other ways of using this concept. This opens up a lot possibilities of hot dog appetizer ideas. I can see all kinds of fillings you can inject inside the tube. The meat removed is not wasted. I found that it gives better texture and taste in making meat balls and meat loaf. dcarch

Thanks agin for the nice thoughts!! The giant spider is basically made with PVC piping -- and the body is supported by a cradle of the piping. The body and head are fabric-covered workout/exercise balls (bought at a garage sale!) BUT you could simply fill black garbage bags with paper -- and add eyes (driveway reflectors would be great!) As a footnote, the leftovers did not heat well and came out a bit tough, although when first cooked they were tender and moist. I used medium grind cornmeal, and next time I will use a finer grind - or substitute more masa for part of the cornmeal. I had Hush Puppy shoes when I was a child (they were somewhat ugly), but I have never personally heard anyone refer to feet as dogs - only cartoons. Any barking dog has an adverse effect on me - I've been bitten more than once by dogs that were violating leash laws. I would never reward a barking dog with food, but I do think it used to be traditional in the South.

I didn't get to see the show, but visited Eddie Ross' website today and saw his fabulous black feather wreath. There is even a 'how-to' so you can make your own. My mother made one for me last year and I have it hanging over my mantel with a beautiful orange chiffon-type bow. It is beautiful.

It will be showing several more times this month, so you can still see it. Well worth your time as it's so fun.

Glor, Eddie's tortilla leaves were a big hit on the show. I'll have to do that since I have some leaf cookie cutters. And how cute his felt bat napkin holders are. He really shares lots of great tips and ideas on his blog. I'm a big fan of it.

I saw it and was so dissappointed with the outdoor decorations because I couldn't use any of them down here where the weather is either rainy or the wind is blowing 30mph this time of year. We need indestructible materials to decorate down here. LOL The decorations were very nice though for those who can have them.

I loved all the interiors and watching the kids with all that candy, was the best.

Luvs,I forgot to record it but DD checked yesterday and it's on again this Saturday night (or maybe afternoon). Anyhoo, this time I have the tv set to record it, but plan to watch it then as well. You're right, Eddie is such a nice guy and he has great ideas. Thanks again for the reminder that it was on.
