Nero DVD burner 7

Cannot understand why all of a sudden my Nero Burner 7 has left off working

When I set it up to burn it rejects an empty disk, asks to enter a disk to the DVD burner.

My DVD Ram drive will not read a disk, play music or a video. The whole system has left off working.

Could I have accidently removed a file when removing my joystick from the USB drive.

Anyone got any suggestions.

Cheers.

Jim

Sounds like the problem is with the DVD Rom drive. Open mycomputer can you see the drive listed there? These are mechanical devices and tend to fail. Had you removed a file most likely and error would be generated when trying to use the drive..

"When I set it up to burn it rejects an empty disk, asks to enter a disk to the DVD burner."

It's probably doing this because the DVD Rom drive is not seeing the Disk installed.. Blow the dust out maybe will help.

Good info, thanks for sharing it. I'm almost embarrassed to say that I never even think of doing a multi-session burn. :)

dvd+ (plus) vs dvd- (minus)

The +/- formats are competition generated like the recent DVD contest which BlueRay won, or even farther back the beta vs VHS conflict. Today most DVD units read and/or write both formats. My most recent reading reported minus was the more prevalent of the two. Personally I do not like any RW to use for permanent storage. I have to at times use copied video, audio and text at work. Several times a year RWs which have been rewritten on several times fail; CD and DVD. Not too often, but they do fail. Without knowing what brand and model of DVD burner along with the software you intend to use, my initial position is as long as the disk is amendable you should be able to continue using it for additional storage. DVD Burner Recommendations?
Q

Just speaking from my own experience, not claiming a lot of computer knowledge. I have a Compaq Desktop with XP which came equiped with a CD/DVD reader/writer that went bad. I recently bought an HP dvd 1040 external CD/DVD reader writer. It connects via USB and is working great with the Sonic hardware that came installed on my computer. The Nero software that came with the burner wouldn't work. That may be because of the other software that was installed, as I said, I'm not super computer savvy and didn't want to open the case or do a lot of messing around with installed software which I was afraid would leave me worse off than before. The system I now have works great for backing up files, reading DVDs and reading and writing CDs. It takes only a minimal amt of space on my desk as it comes with a stand which allows the unit to be set on it's side.

I have burned music CD's in the past using Nero. I don't do alot of burning so it isn't at the front of my memory bank. My computer guru put alot of programs on my computer which I have no idea what they do. I do use Picasa some and think I could burn a CD from that perhaps. Here is a list of the programs I have under what he calls "multimedia" Nero CD/DVD Burn Picasa SoundMax XP Codec Pack 2.5.1 Any Video Converter Applian FLV Player Audacity Media Player Classic Photo Story 3 PowerDVD Player Quick CD Quick Time Player Quintessential Media Player Real Player Say Time Sound Recorder Windows Media Player Windows Movie Maker Microsoft Silverlight DVD Decrypter Free East Cd-DVD Burner InfraRecorder Mp3DirectCut Old Media Player Slide Show Wizard VCD ControlTool In addition to figuring out what program to use I am going to need some help getting the pictures from my computer to that source. I don't use Picasa very much as I don't do editing etc. and I find their organization difficult to figure out. Today I looked at the videos from my iPhone that I want to burn to DVD through the Windows Cameras and Scanners Wizard. Ginny

Open the Device Manager on the Control Panel. Locate your drive on the appearing tree. Click on the + sign which will open the entry. Right click on the appearing drive and select Properties. On the General tab at the bottom, what does it report about status?

Regardless of the report I would reset the driver. To do this open the Driver tab. Select update driver. Depending on yur device you may or may not have to be connected to the Internet.

If this doesn't resolve the concern then the next step would be to remove Nero. Please consider using REVO as Nero can be a little difficult to remove. In fact, after removing Nero check your Add/Remove for any ancillary Nero applications still installed, and do a START>Search using the keyword Nero.

do you happen to have a stand alone usb dvd burner to try? DVD drives definitely do fail, after trying the offered advice above with no good results I think that would be my guess.
Have you tried various brands of actual DVD because some players can become very finicky about the actual DVD, happens all the time.

Zep, damccoy, ravencajun,
Thanks guys for your assistance, I have tried all your suggestions except uninstalling the Nero at this stage.
I think the DVD drive is shot and will pick up a new one.
Cheers all
