WordPad in win7 tip

This may not be news to most of you, but I have found that if I create a WordPad document (saving it as RTF file) and then type in an underlined website address. Highlighting it and right clicking a popup appears and asks if you want to open the url. Answering yes will open the website in your default browser. Has anyone else found this or anything else that is a time saver for worepad 7? I have a file with my favorite websites in a file on the desktop for this use.

Thanks Zep. This post did not get but one response. Yours. It may have been too uninteresting. I do not have Microsoft Word but do have Open office. Files with OO did not give the same result that win7 Wordpad did. I imagine that Win7 Word would also. Don't know. There may be many ways to do what I described that are just as easy. Well so much for the tip.

Thanks, Owbist. I tried that yesterday, but nothing changed with WMP. However, I thought it might be a good idea to redo the procedure. Some striking changes occurred this time. All of my WAV files now open in Windows Live Movie Maker. I tried to play a music CD and got the box that said Windows couldn't open the file. When I checked the properties of the music, it shows as a CDA File... (I'm not alarmed - I know there has to be a fix.) OK, I thought... I'll just go back to the Media Features and redo the procedure. However, there are now no check marks in the WMP or Media Center boxes! I record 3 church services a week on this laptop. I take the sound from - I believe it's called a preamp - (signal too strong directly from mixer) and am able to record in Audacity. I now have audio in Audacity whereas I lost it after the defrag. However, the wav files I made from the audacity project files now open in window movie maker and are unplayable... I don't think I will ever defrag this laptop again!!! :)

Win 7 Antispyware 2012, Vista Antivirus 2012, and XP Security 2012 are all names for the same rogue anti-spyware program. This family of rogues is promoted in two ways. The first is through the use of fake online antivirus scanners that state that your computer is infected and then prompt you to download a file that will install the infection. The other method are hacked web sites that attempt to exploit vulnerabilities in programs that you are running on your computer to install the infection without your knowledge or permission. Regardless of how it is installed, once it is running on your computer it will install itself as a variety of different program names and graphical user interfaces depending on the version of Windows that is running. Skype is very easy to install and use. Once installed you would search for your contacts (ask them for the handle they use to make life easy) you then make contact. Be sure to add a personal note so they realise it is you and not some whacko wanting to pester. And yes, that happens occasionally but can be stopped, see next paragraph. Once installed click Tools and Options then on the Privacy tab make sure you are set to only receive calls from those you know and not any old stranger. While chatting you can send photos to each other or files if you wish. Do not use the desktop mic in front of the speakers because the sound coming from the speakers goes back into the mic a fraction of a second later and makes for a very lousy chat. Perhaps your camera will come with the mic included, if so that is great. Just set the camera on top of the monitor and that avoids all the cross sound. Don't add too much info on the personalising, I say I am near Niagara Falls, Canada rather than the small town not far away and I offer only my first name. Your choice of course. You will not be disappointed if you have family living any distance from you. You can also buy time to call landline telephones around the world. Last time I bought it was about US$14 (10 Euros) for 10 hours of talk time. not a bad deal.

Here's where I heard about the hashbrowns in waffle iron (have since seen it several places): Hashbrown Waffles by Waffleizer.com Directions: 1. Wash and peel the potatoes. Shred them and squeeze them dry with a towel. (This ensures that your potatoes brown nicely.) 2. In a mixing bowl, add the potatoes, followed by salt and pepper to taste. 3. Spread about a teaspoon of butter on the waffle iron. (A silicone pastry brush works well; neither you nor the brush will melt while you spread the butter around the extremely hot waffle iron, and any nonstick finish on your waffle iron will be spared.) 4. Pile the shredded potatoes into the waffle iron and close the lid. 5. After a few minutes, you may wish to squeeze down the lid a bit. Check the potatoes after 10 minutes. In my waffle iron on the medium heat setting, the potatoes showed golden-brown highlights after about 15 minutes. But yours will vary, possibly by quite a bit. 6. Carefully remove the potatoes from the waffle iron. Serve them with grated cheese or sour cream. You could also serve waffled hash browns with ketchup, alongside a waffleburger. But that takes serious commitment to the concept. And I would worry about you a little. I used mine as the base for a fried egg, topped with shavings of three-year Gouda. It took me about two minutes to clean my plate. And, no, I did not waffle the egg. Not that one, anyway. Cooking bacon came from Alton Brown's show.

Thanks John4291. Will try this. Always interested in tips. I have a new computer with Windows7 and am thrilled beyond words with it. Had XP for many years and skipped Vista. Find something new and improved on W7 every day!

Thanks TexasPH for your info about my tip. I did the same as you on opeys. I am enjoying WIN7 a lot after the 1st shock.
Use the Wordpad for your trial and be sure you have underlined the URL or save and paste it from the address after you have logged in to the website. Good Luck and let me know if it works for you. John W.

Thanks Owbist. Have been all over the Win 7 wallpaper, downloaded several of them from the internet. Put my personal pictures on there, too. Think this is my favorite part of all.I had bookmarked the Sevenforums when I first got it, but have not had time to go back and study it. There is so much to learn and while I don't post often, I read the Computer Forum daily. Everything I know has been learned on this forum.

John, I did it with the sticky note at the bottom of the computer, it worked beautifully. Think I like your idea of wordpad better though as there is more room. Thanks so much.
