danged virus,d desperate for help!

I was one of those that got a virus using the foodnetwork site where my computer continually was in reboot mode.

Decided to just reinstall the recovery disc on my toshiba laptop...this is where I really would appreciate some help.

My son who is fairly knowledgeable was trying to "fix it for mama" he's hit a snag and isn't sure how to get around it.

After uninstalling (which took a whopping 9 hours)using recovery wizard disc 1, he is trying the partitioning route (??) yet is getting an error 0800000000 screen which also says to shut the computer down and restart. But that error 0800000000 keeps popping up. Disc 2 has not been installed.

Any suggestions how to get around this?

There should be no partitioning required for a disk recovery, I have however seen some issues on Toshiba machines where some sort of partitioning error occurs when attempting to use a recovery disk.

Warranty????? Still

I would contact Toshiba about this error since it seems only Toshiba specific. From my experience there support is very good.

If you would could you post the exact Model # and operating system.

Toshiba has excellent forums. Get you going fast hopefully .. some are stubborn old repair center guys that seem gruff, but know their products.

Thanks for your reply, brandon. I am so tired of these awful looking mistake plantings. I was trying to cut to the chase re. details. I did the research and husband did the fix attempts. My research told me they are probably "chili thrips". They are reddish brown and almost microscopic. It was said that it was a bad time for these pests ( 2 yrs ago), and they'd be extremely difficult to remove. Oh yeah! Believe he used Spinosad as well as a systemic. We were loath to use these for fear of harming any potential friendly bugs, but had become desperate. The treatments were to be applied at specific a time, which he did. This recommended regime was faithfully adhered to two seasons in a row. I have now given up on a treatment. Thank you for the site which is partially quoted below, and hence my prune off all the leaves theory : "Prune and destroy injured and infested terminals when managing a few ****small specimen plants in the landscape. Regular pruning of infested parts can be especially effective with the gall-making Cuban laurel thrips. Avoid shearing plants. Shearing, which is clipping dense foliage to maintain an even surface on formal hedges, stimulates susceptible new growth. Prune by cutting plants just above branch crotches and nodes instead of shearing off terminals....." ***10-12 ft. trees are likely not "small specimen plants", but I am at a loss of what to attempt before simply chopping them down. RobNelms, I think you need to take a long view on thisÃ¢ÂÂ¦..you should still have these plants in a decade and then the decade after thatÃ¢ÂÂ¦.or longer!! What you desperately need to do now is not kill itÃ¢ÂÂ¦..while I'm sure you can get away with glazed or plastic pots in the future (I have one of mine in a glazed pot and all my 2-4 year old seedlings in plastic pots) what you want right now is PERFECT drainage to get the roots established. When you have a pot full of roots they can take more watering and less drainage (plastic and glazed pots by default have less drainage because their is less loss of water via the clay pot), but now you need to not lose your beautiful plant. I've posted a lot of times, I use pure volcanic cinder or pure pumice for my plantsÃ¢ÂÂ¦.I'm sure in more ideal conditions you can get away with some potting mix or whatever, but I know my conditions are no where near perfect! For now I think you want lots of warmth so I would keep them inside. My plants are very well established so mine go outside starting in April and come back in late Oct. I leave mine out as long as it is not going in to the 30s at nightÃ¢ÂÂ¦.this is what they see in their native habitatÃ¢ÂÂ¦..but yours are not nearly well enough established so keep them warm in your houseÃ¢ÂÂ¦maybe even give them bottom heat for now. I'm sure you can succeed with this plant, but please keep it in perfect drainage for nowÃ¢ÂÂ¦Ã¢ÂÂ¦experiment when you have more to experiment with!! I just harvested my latest seed pod to mature so I hope in a few weeks I have another 50 or so seedlings nicely growing. Rick, if I get flowers on my Scilla next fall and they set seed you are welcome to someÃ¢ÂÂ¦.I just never make an attempt to set seed since I have no room for more anyway. By the way, one of my Scadoxus nutans offsets is growing a leaf despite hanging next to the pot of soil in the air so I will cut it off and get it in a separate potÃ¢ÂÂ¦.if it grows roots it is yours in the spring. I have tons of chickens but no more flies than I did before I had the chickens. If you keep stuff dry the flies leave when it comes to chickens. Plus my chickens would love to eat flies and would be in heaven if they found some maggets bleh. The baby ducks like them even more than the chickies lol. Anyhow, you could try hanging some of those sticky fly strips out on the patio. I get the black flag ones at walmart for 1 dollar for a pkg of four. They seem to work about as good as anything. How about a bug zapper maybe hang something sweet near it to attract them during the day.

Yeah, furnace and windows = $$$$. As for install, I suppose it would depend how complicated it is. Location relative to ducting, electrical, outside, make up air, etc, etc. My range is currently on an inside wall, we have no outside venting or electrical anything in that area. Big project. As we are unsure if it will stay in that location if/when we remodel (keeps getting put off) I don't want to spend the money now only to have to repay for install if we change the kitchen layout. Modernaire was great to deal with and I thought very reasonable cost wise for a custom made hood that has the goods. Just not in the budget for me right now (nor apparently in the immediate future). Guess I misspoke about the install costs, but IIRC preliminary estimate was around 1,500 or so (w/o a formal estimate which would require putting holes in the wall and ceiling). Still hoping you get your hood soon, though.

Thank you zep and mikie for your quick response :) The computer is at my son's house now, so I am unable to post the model #.
It is an older model, so no warranty (of course).
I feel like a fish out of water without my computer...never thought this old gal would get there! LOL.

Usually when you see an error like (0800000000) the best approach is a Google Search using the model # along with the error#. In hopes of finding some information about it. Unfortunately I did not find much. Going directly to Toshiba forums may be a best bet for now. That's the only reason I asked for the model # so I could google it and the error. Try it! Let us know what you find. I would strongly consider making a post at the Toshiba forums too.

Let us know what Toshiba says.

Reinstalling windows would resolve the problem, from what you posted you only have a recovery disk. Using a recovery disk will restore the computer back to when it was purchased. Re- installing windows fresh would require a windows retail version of XP or whatever. Then you would need to install all the drivers for the motherboard for from the Toshiba site.

See what they say at Toshiba maybe it's a matter of getting another set of recovery disks.

Haven't gotten a response from toshiba peoples.
My son just called...he installed Windows XP and says it should be up and running shortly...ah, thank goodness for those who are interested and informed about computers. Because without you, those of us who "just don't get it" would be up the old proverbial creek :)

After your son does the clean install of XP, make sure all the Service packages are done also (3 of them) and any updates since SP3...Also, make sure you have an up to date and functioning Anti-virus program running...suggest a free on like Avast free...
