How old is the drive??? You could try cleaning the laser eye with a cotton Qtip but its also quite possible that the drive is on it way out the door. Replacement drives are pretty cheap these days

If you place a music or data DVD or CD in the drawer does it play the music or offer to display the data? If the DVD burner is shot you would probably be better to buy an external DVD player/burner rather than replace the internal one.

The wax and wicks came from Bitter Creek Candle Supply. The number on the pack of wicks is 44-32-18Z. They are approximately 7 inches long. I am pouring the wax into soup cans and using those for jars. Like these: http://aprimitiveglow.com/cart/index.php?l=product_detail&p=6

Very easy to do, both discs look very much alike. The DVD and Blu-Ray on the Front of the Disc is hard to see sometimes, I've got to be wearing my Glasses to be sure! Hope you Good luck with Windows 10. I like it and haven't had any problems with any of my computers or tablets that have the upgrade. I did have a problem with one of my tablets but it wasn't Windows 10, the Touchscreen happened to stop working shortly after the Win 10 upgrade (Not Microsoft's fault)!

What program are you using to burn these normally?

If all else fails I would simply re-install the software over itself. If you wish you could go to the Add/Remove window and remove the program first. Perhaps there is/are corrupt file/s there.

Since this is occurring on two different computers, and appears to have happened about the same time, it sounds as though you may have gotten some defective DVDs.

This was done several times previously, but did again. Still displays No CD in Drive when DVD is in drive. It will burn a CD when I put a CD in drive and tell it to burn CD

Coho, it just seems strange that both of your computers would have this problem at the same time, and since the CDs work ok it just seems to point to the DVDs as the problem. I have found that some of the blank cheaper brands of DVDs do seem to have a higher failure rate when they get older. I no longer store anything that I want to keep only on DVDs, but make sure I have copies on external hard drives.

As do I. I would much rather send a DVD to Alaska family than my external drve. Guess will reinstall Windows in about 2 weeks unless someone comes up with a better way.

The only thing related to the two computers would be a possible windows update type thing, kind of strange......

You can go to Device Manager and uninstall the Sony DVD-RW.
The next time you bootup, Windows will find new hardware and reinstall the drivers.

I've come across this on several computers, all from different reasons. The DVD's can be one problem. settings are another thing to look at. One I worked on had two cd/dvd drives. The person using Nero never checked to see if the burner she had the blank in was also the one showing at the top. Reloading install software sometimes helps. On one pc, I had to physically disconnect the dvd, reboot, check device manager to make sure it didn't show up, shut down, reconnected, and it worked fine. Why I have no idea.
