Anyone ever tile around a pre-fab shower surround?
Comments (2)Bill-The reason the green board is failing, is because my BIL is 6'5", so he is the one splashing all the water up there. My beautiful, lovely sister is a pettie 5'2". He is the one that should be doing the repair, but to tell the truth, I don't trust him, besides, God only knows when it would get done....See MoreAnyone ever used Flextherm radiant floor heating?
Comments (4)Flextherm is a wire-style under-floor heating as opposed to the mat style. Is that why nobody else has used it. It claims to have the smallest diameter wire of any radiant floor heating system, which is obviously a good thing. Also, their thermostat looks very impressive. http://www.flextherm.com/produits.php?id=pro...See MoreHas anyone ever seen/used these tiles?
Comments (9)I just took a similar style tile out of my kitchen. Not the tile's fault -- it was the patching done as part of my kitchen reno that was poorly done and ate at me to the point that we decided to rip it out and start over while putting hardwoods in the rooms that didn't get new flooring before. We had crema marfil in our entry and powder room and the porcelain tile in the master bath ad laundry room as well as the kitchen, breakfast and family room. I always thought both looked good. I understand what you mean about the builder can say he's going to charge whatever he likes, but really, it's not like people are standing in line to have houses built these days. It doesn't mean you can't ask the builder why he feels he needs to charge more to have a tile laid in a straight line with offsetting joints instead of grid joints. It is not harder or more work. If it's that he has to communicate that to the tile setter -- offer to do it yourself and let him sleep in. I paid extra to have my tile done in a pinwheel in the kitchen and family rooms as well as on the diagonal in the master bath, but it wasn't that much and it was much more complicated to lay. It's been a while, but I think it was $1 to $1.50 a square foot for those patterns plus there was additional tile waste allowed. Your brick pattern shouldn't require more tile -- but maybe he's thinking it would? The trend these days is to have fewer flooring materials, so one in all those rooms would be fine....See Morehas anyone used SIlestone Blanco City
Comments (9)Well, this is 7 years after the original post request so probably not relevant for you any more... but I hope this is useful for anybody else looking at the Silestone (Consentino) Blanco City Quartz. We purchased this quartz for our countertops through Home Depot about a year ago in our ADU remodel and we love it! The warm colors work really well with the maple cabinets and terra cotta inspired tile floor. It is warm without being too beigy. It almost reads more as an off-white than anything else. When you look at it up close, you notice all small quartz pieces, color variation as shown in the photo in this thread or in the tiny samples you get from the store. However, as a whole it appears much more uniform and looks great. I think based on the images of the small samples alone, I never would have thought to pick this quartz. As far as the quality, I think it is pretty typical to most others quartz. It doesn't wear or scratch easily; No signs of wear or stains so far and we are a year in. It has a gloss finish and wipes down super easily. It does a pretty good job at disguising dirtiness because of all the color variation. I am posting a handful of photos that hopefully will help to illustrate what it actually looks like installed (mind the cheerios in the sink). Let me know if you need more or want any other tips!...See Moreritamay91710
