So excited about Carnival Glass find!

Oh MY! I am so excited right now!

I just came back from the Salvation Army at my lunch break and there I found TWO pieces of vintage blue Carnival Glass (pieces I'd been coveting when I saw them in antique stores but didn't want to pay the $$$ for). These are part of a set of some thrifted tumbler glasses I'd found not long ago and currently have on my Fall table.

It's the Imperial Grape pattern. And I found a footed centerpiece bowl AND a lidded compote.

I have to say, there was a bit of maniacal laughter in the car after I loaded my treasures into it! The pieces were $4 and $8 respectively.

I knew you ladies would certainly appreciate my dish-related glee. (And NO, I have NOT backslid once again into dishaholism-- the blue Carnival glass is a collection I'd already planned to keep. :-)

(And, er, even if I HAD backslid, I probably wouldn't admit it...)

YAAAAAAYYYYYYY for you!!!!!!!! I went to GW yesterday, and they had some of the cutest Christmas plates for 99 cents. I was good and didn't bring them all home, but they WERE CUTE!!!! I only bought two rolls of packing tape, so you can tell that I was in FULL REstraint!!!!!

What a find! Hard to believe someone would actually throw that away! But I'm sure happy for you that they did. Our dump doesn't allow anyone to take anything. What a shame since so much could be salvaged or recycled. But apparently they are afraid of lawsuits if someone gets hurt. I think dumps should have a section for 'good' stuff to put aside and let folks have it. But then we can't even curb shop here as you can't put anything out there. :o( I think Phoenix must hate recycling!! How dumb is that. hugs, Karen

Josh, I am not sure why the pic on Glasshouse's site is so pink. Mine looks like the pic posted above. All of my species hipps are from Glasshouse--it was the only place where I could get a selection at a price I could afford. They are really friendly and sometimes they may be able to send you something not offered on their site. The plants are starter size so you probably won't get blooms the first year, but seeing how fast you can get the bulbs to size up is part of the fun--the first flowers on something new is more exciting than something you know is going to bloom without fail every year.

The chairs are entirely different story. I bought them off some antique dealers site on ebay from New York. Got all them for like $125 but it cost me a total of almost $600 by the time shipping factored in. Still a deal in "chair world". They had some hideous old gold brocade fabric on them. I refinished and recoverd them myself. They are two arm chairs too. DH was so worried that they wouldn't go with the table. "How can you know" he asked? And I told him... " I just know they'll be perfect... trust me". When they delivered them it was funny. they came at night when my husband 60's style band was practicing at night at my home. These boys have been together for over 40 years... since they were kids. Anyways, the delivery man was a Jamaican man who was not familiar with the music. So I told him to stay and have some dinner. (Had made baked ziti for the boys). "what's baked ziti" he asked. Well I sat that young man down to a big plate with home made bread.He devoured it and kept asking... "this is called baked ziti"... "seconds please"... He got up and sang some wiht the guys and was dancing. I gave a big fat tip and he left a happy kid. DH will no longer question me on my choices at all. He'll say, I never would have picked those colors/whatever... but it looks tremendous.

Oh, I WILL take pics-- I'll do it this weekend. I was planning to do pics of my Halloween/fall table and other little Halloweeny decoration, and then these new pieces came along.

So the timing is so terrific!

Thanks for being happy for me. I knew my beloved dish-enablers /invisible friends here would unquestionably understand the joy of the find. :-)

Jaybird, I don't know how you managed to restrain yourself. Maybe you tied your hands up with the packing tape?

Jenn I'm so happy for you and you know you HAVE to show us pics! :) I love the blue stuff.

I only have one piece of marigold Carnival glass from the 20's and would love more but have no idea how to tell the old from the reproduction stuff. Besides if I got more I'd have to find a place for it and that's the difficult part!

dream - I can't wait to see your pics. I have two dark blue pieces. I just set them on my dining room table and snapped a picture. Are these carnival glass or something else?

Unfortunately, my very good camera got soaked this recently when we were in Alaska's rain forest. I took this pic with a my little Sony Cyber Shot. I'd love to know what these are. I've had them for years. Perhaps you can tell me what I have! Sorry, I don't know how to resize the picture. I am challenged at best in the computer/picture posting area.

Jenn, I would have loved to have seen your face when you spotted your new treasures! Were they in the same place, or two separate shelves? Bet you were dancing a jig all the way to the register. How fun for you to find something you already collect and at bargain prices. Congrats to you, gal, way to go! Luvs

Jenn, I was so excited to hear about your find and possibly figure out what I have hear that I addressed you as dream:)). Sorry, brain is scrambled. Any event, can't wait to see your pictures!

What other colors are you using on your table if any?

Labmomma, go to eBay.com and then type in "carnival glass" on the home page search box - see if you can find your two vases in there.

thanks Sal. I did find both items, the one I thought was a vase is under carnival glass, but is a decantur, I am missing the top:-). Also, the candle stick is under Chinese Candle Sticks - I only have one blue one, one gold one, and a pair of clear glass. MIL loves tag sales and antique stores. LOL
