The icon is not a flush mount either--alto I don't know if that is what you are looking for. It sits about a half inch above the base (granite or whatever) and it is vented from that area that rest above the countertop surface.
Alto in the 3 months we have had it, we have yet to hear a fan run, or any other noise out of it, cept the beep when ya push the touchpad controls.
Our old cooktop was a flushmount and we really didnt want that again.

Thanks Gary. I think I'm going with the GE, although I'll probably get a little bit wider base to have flexibility in the future. I read the manual and it seemed pretty intuitive to operate. I like the frameless style. When I looked at the sizes and power ranges it looked fairly comparable to the Bosch, Electrolux and Miele and it's significantly less expensive. I suspect induction is finally going to take off in the US and prices will come down and features will improve over the next few years so I can upgrade down the road if I need to without feeling too guilty.

The only thing that bothers me is the 12" clearance that GE requires below it. I don't mind putting a false front for the small top drawer but I wanted to have two deep drawers below it for pots and pans and I don't want to void the warranty. The Electrolux guide shows vents above the countertop and I think it said 4 1/2" height. Was that all the clearance they wanted below it?

Also, on some appliance site, it said no downdraft for both the GE and Electrolux. Does that mean you can't have a downdraft system with them or just that that manufacturer doesn't make one? I know the cabinet may have to be deeper but my current gas cooktop has downdraft on an island and I'm staying with that.

We have a cupboard with a Lazy Susan below the cooktop.
That is where we keep the pots and pans.
I will retrieve the manual and check the clearance specs below, I did have to move the top mount for the lazy susan down about an inch to install the cooktop.
You will love the induction, regardless of what maker you choose.

There's been a lot of discussion about that 12" requirement for the GE. Basically the issue is making sure there is sufficient air circulation beneath the cooktop for cooling the electronics.

I'm 18 months into my 30" GE Profile Induction cooktop, and I brazenly broke the install rules and actually did a shallow drawer right beneath the cooktop, with two more deep drawers below that. (I basically did a 2" deep drawer with a regular drawer front).

I am careful not to put flammables in the 2" drawer and on occassion if I have lots of burners going, I will open all the lower drawers a few inches to help with air circulation. Not a problem, and now that I am out of the warranty period -- it won't matter if I have a problem (althought that "what if" did kind of hang over my head while in warranty!)

I have no regrets.

It recommends 4 and 1/2 inches below and discourages the use or drawers below(to make installation easier, it "says". The unit does draw and exaust cooling air from slots near the top of the unit, so apparently no heat is exausted below it. It also say you can use the "Electrolux Downdraft with it, and it can also be mounted above Electrolux ovens. happy "fitting", with whatever you select!!!

Yes, I've read your posts about the drawers that you put in but I'm still a little worried. Not so much about the warranty issue (although that would really piss me off if it broke before the year was up!) but more about shorter lifespan due to the higher heat. Someone was talking about a heat shield. I think that was for the Bosch. There's no heat shield to install for the GE or Electrolux is there?

Lots of decisions to make! It would be easy if spending more money got you a more reliable product but I've been let down by high end products too often. If something is cheap and it breaks I write it off to getting what I paid for. But when something expensive breaks, I feel totally ripped off.
