does more expensive = more precise lighting in gas stovetops?

I hope you all can help me with this quandary I'm in--

I am seriously considering getting an induction range instead of gas, and I realize one of the reasons is that I hate that click-click sound followed by the smell of gas and then a big flame of ignition that happens every now and then with my stovetop. It is nothing fancy, just a cheap kitchenaid I got when I moved in 10 years ago.

I just can't stand when the thing won't light. I usually turn it off immediately, of course, but sometimes I miss the opportunity. I also don't like feeling as if a ball of fire is going to engulf me while I try to make dinner.

I had a stovetop when I was in school that actually had to be lit with a match. I hate those memories.

My question is, are more expensive stoves better/more precise in their lighting mechanisms than the cheaper ones? I would rather get gas because I'm used to it and it is much cheaper than induction but if this is just what having gas is like then maybe I am ready to be done with it.
