Minimum 600 cfm liner/insert that vents low or out the back

My contractor, appliance store employee, and I are struggling to find a ventilation system that will work with my setup. I have a 36" wide Viking range, 6 burners, that they tell me I need 600 cfm to properly vent. I will have 65 inches above the 36 inch range surface before I hit the ceiling. The range will be against an outside wall and underneath a second floor. I want to have a custom stucco or plaster hood made (Spanish look) and am trying to find an insert that will allow me to either duct straight out the back, or go up and make a 90 degree turn backward to fit under my height limit. I would like to mount the hood at 32 inch minimum (my husband is tall). A separate issue is that venting the hood here will put the outlet duct UNDER my roof overhang. (The kitchen itself is in a two story section of the house, but the area right next to it is one story). I know that can't be optimal. My contractor is not sure whether it will pass code (we are in California). Any suggestions?
