Flea Market and Garage Sales...some good stuff!

Sorry I've been absent for a time, just so busy with the house construction and trying to get ready for winter!

But I have been stopping at a few garage sales, flea markets and 2nd hand stores when they have been on my route of errands.

I don't know what it about me and jars, but I just can't seem to have enough of them. I found these at our little weekly flea market and could not pass them up.

At the same flea market, I've been looking at these Bluebirds for several weeks now and finally decided to make an offer.

Same flea market but now a gorgeous Mid-Century Modern vase....I just love it!

Next 4 items are from a local 2nd hand shop that I check out whenever I have a minute or two.

Gorgeous horse print with way cool frame!

Rooster Lantern for my collection. I love it!

White, beat up rocker for my back porch. It looks great and is perfect for the location!

Perfect end table for my new livingroom. I could not pass it up and end tables are so hard to find.

I found the adorable youth chair at a rummage sale in our village. I just happen to be passing by and it was so late, I'm surprised it was still there. It is old, probably well over 100 yrs and hand made too. The lady only wanted $20 and I snapped it up! Looks like it was meant for my new period kitchen too! My house is still under construction but the new chair now serves as THE place for my purse. I spent at least an hour a day just looking for my purse!

The last is from Tuesday Morning. I could not make up my mind so just bought both of them. They are either for bagels or donuts...LOL! But so cute! I'm not sure you can tell size in the photo but black bordered plate is about 18" long so both are a great serving size.

OK, I WANNA SHOP WITH YOU. WOW and WOW and WOW.

I love the horse picture and would have bought it. I understand the appeal of jars, I find them and some boxes just too tempting. Needless to say, I love the rooster!!!
I watch for glass birds too, I put them in my gnome or fairy garden area or by my birdhouses on the stepladder (decorative only obviously).
You sure did great on absolutely everything. I'm so impressed with your finds.

Wow you got some great stuff, but that mid-century vase is my favorite. I love that vase!

Cait1, I have a brother in Melbourne and we might end up living in Tassie in year or two, I'd love to open a little mosaic studio down there, just a dream but one that will hopefully come true some day in the not so distant future. I haven't bought anything from the US for a while, it was fantastic when our $ was about the same as theirs but not so good at the moment, hopefully it'l pick up again soon and we can start buying again - YAY!! As for the postage I try and get as much stuff as I can that will fit into an $11.95US parcel, I think it holds around 2 or 3 kgs so it works out quite economical to do it that way. Can't wait to see your seat finished, it's amazing! (((hugs))) Tracey

I love good flea markets that sell junk and not so much new stuff and clothes, altho there is one here that sells mostly new stuff, appliances, clothes, etc...mostly hispanics...but once in awhile there will be a good buy on a piece of junk because they really aren't interested in stuff like that usually. I like yard sales, estate sales, auctions, dumpster diving, curb shopping. I am mostly into stuff for the garden now, since I've filled my house a few times over, but I won't turn down a neat piece of junk for the house. Last week I found two old faux bois planters. I had to think "WWMD?" Ha! Not really. (What would Martha do?) Martha collects faux bois...fake wood...made out of cement. I jumped at them for $10 for both.

Hmmm...I could write up a HUGE list, I love my area thrift store. The best deals for this summer though... Pottery Barn decor for $1 each that I found in the catalog from the winter for no less than $50 each. A set of LeCrueset cookware still in the box for $25. A box of what the seller called junk...that ended up having an almost complete set of antique french flatware, several great ironstone pieces (my first ones - yay!), and more great antique and vintage kitchen wares than one could possibly hope for - for the bargain price of $5. OMG...I almost felt bad when I got home and researched what I bought. But I had to remind myself - one man's trash is another man's treasure...and this was a treasure for sure in my world.

I am under the impression that ALL of these reality shows are just productions with minimal reality. I have seen Flea Market Flip, and the whole concept seems absurd. I spent many years going to many Garage Sales and more recently home auctions. Prices are usually very low. Flea Markets do seem to be a slightly different case because one has to transport stuff to it that make sellers look for higher prices. Yes, I can't imagine why anyone would pay anything for most of the stuff that get made on this show.

Great buys, Michelle! My favorite is the chair. I have never seen one quite like it. And if you have a tiny rear, your could actually sit in it, (which counts me out, lol) Now how much were those goodies? We like ALL the info, LOL. And that lantern is perfect for your unique collection! Those plates are cute too!!

Michelle, you found some good things. I like all of them. That little end table is darling, and you sure can't beat a rocking chair on the back porch. Cute dishes, great jars, and probably a valuable vase! Love the rooster, bluebirds and horse pic too. Love it all! Luvs

Lets see the jars were $10 for all 3. The birds were $5. The horse picture was $11. The rooster lantern was $6. The rocking chair was $20. The youth chair was $20. The end table was $85. The mid-century vase was $3.50. And the 2 bagel plates were $10 each.

That about covers it! LOL!

Oh, Oh, Oh, what great stuff you found, great prices too. I want to go along with you on your shopping excursions. I love that rooster and would love to see more of your "collection" as I decorate the same.
