I don't think I had a biggest or most pressing. I guess the questions came to be as I had to learn how to battle the problems I encountered. A great thing to explain though would be when to start your seedlings. I'm in zone 6 and I have to start my lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant indoors. I can direct seed radish, squash, pumpkin, melons, and corn. That can be a huge topic because it changes with zones, but it would be something that beginners probably wouldn't know. Soil basics would be a great chapter too. Where you can get your soil tested, how to prepare your soil samples, understanding the results, and then amending your soil to correct any problems. Such as, if the pH came back as 5.5. How much lime to add, usually the back of the bag has a chart that will show the square footage across one axis and the pH across another. Then you just match the two and it will give you the pounds of lime to add to get a neutral pH. Most frustrating: VARMINTS! Pronounced "GROUND-HOGS"! Nothing is worse than working diligently in your garden only to come out the next morning and all of your cauliflower is gone! Common problems: bugs, bugs, bugs, bugs (repeat that a few hundred times), drought. Diseases are a common problem too. This could be a huge topic, probably a book of its own. Ortho has a really awesome book out that has most common garden plants listed, then for each plant it lists the most common diseases and pests. Along with pictures of what a disease looks like, what the pests look like, and your possible defenses. How much would I pay? Probably nothing for a course. Not that I'm cheap, I just can't afford the time. I usually Google around for my answers or post them on forums such as this one. For a book, I've paid $40.00 for a book or two on specific gardening topics such as how to prune and train trees. I think in this forum you're going to find a lot of do-it-yourself-ers. People here tend to try what the want and then learn from their mistakes. In fact, a lot of gardeners I know are like that. That's what is nice about gardening, you don't need a heap of book smarts to get great results. A few simple rules that need to be memorized and then a huge amount of work that needs to be done. Good luck on your book. Maybe check out that Ortho book, I can't remember the title, but it is was published by Ortho. A local nursery had one that I used to pair my apple trees for cross-pollination. That is another topic for fruits too! Cross-pollination vs self-pollination. Pollinators......I think that you're book is going to have to be 15 or so volumes to cover the amount of information that your survey is trying to gather.

At first I went to a lot of trouble to make cement coaster size markers and used paint pens to write on them, then I went to rocks with a paint pen. The cement ones cracked and broke up after a few years, and the paint faded on both. This is my latest: Take an aluminum can and cut it into approx. 1" x 3" address size labels. "Emboss" the name of the hosta by writing on it backwards or upside down. Use a stylus or an ink pen. Works best if you surface it padded with something. I usually fold over the edges too. Then punch holes in both sides using a paper punch. Using some heavy duty wire (wire hangers work great) attach to tag by bending wire around the edge of the label and through the holes and stick in the ground next to the hosta. Actually, I just had a great idea. You could use those metal landscape staples too. Anyway, I stick it all the way down so nothing is sticking up to get knocked over or lost. The aluminum lasts forever and the "embossing" will never fade. Working great so far!

Hi, Butterbeanbaby beat me to it! I was out of town and couldn't remember the name of the website and needed to look it up on my bookmarks. I have ordered from Misterart.com twice, and have been perfectly happy with their product and their shipping time. If you search for "copper sheeting" within their website, it will show you other types of product too, but this is what I've ordered in the past. I would advise that you watch the gauge if you buy it locally. When I first tried making tags, I bought what they sell at Michael's, and I've had to replace pretty much all of them. The gauge was too thin. The wind would just pummel the tags, and they would eventually just rip away. The 36 gauge is heavy enough to be durable, but still has some flex to it so that you can engrave on it with just a pen. When I make my labels, I use a template to trace an oval. Then, using a sharp pair of scissors, I cut the oval about 1/16 inch larger. This leaves an attractive raised border, but also adds just a bit of strength to the tag. Then I use a hole punch at the top. I usually use the labels so the ovals are short and wide, but I could also use them with the oval tall and narrow. Then I use a coat hanger to make a "shephard's hook," and loop the end tightly around the tag. I usually paint the hanger wire gold too, but I haven't gotten to the one in the picture yet. The tags flitter about in the wind, which I find attractive too. I don't think I've lost any of the labels out of the heavier foil. Good luck!
