dingbats, anyone?

If you love dingies like I do, here's a nice site for some ones I hadn't seen before. As I mention on C&D, these are great for the glass marble magnets.

I don't understand the use for dingbats, when using some of them they don't show the words your saying just symbols. Can some one explain the use to me. Thank you.

The dance did the trick here. Cloudy and rainy for the next 3-4 days. What do your pole beans climb up to get to the eaves? My Greek cookbook's recipe for stuffed zucchini: 4 med. zucchini 2 Tbsp butter 1 sm onion, chopped 4 oz ground lamb or beef 1 tsp ground cumin 1 tsp chopped oregano 2 tsps chopped fresh parsley 2 tsps chopped fresh fennel (I use dill) 2 oz cooked long-grain rice 2 tbsps grated cheese salt & pepper [If vegetarians are coming to dinner, I omit the meat, add a few Tbsps of bread crumbs and and egg to hold it together, and am generous with the cheese] - remove ends from zuc, chop in half, scoop out middles - parboil for 2 minutes in boiling salted water; rinse in colde water right away - cook onions in half the butter until soft; & transparent; add meat and cook till beginning to brown - chop remaining zuc flesh and add to meat - add all other ingredients, mix well, and fill hollows in zucs - melt remaining butter in large frying pan; place in zuchs in a single layer; add water to halfway up the sides; cover - cook over gentle heat for 20 minutes, basting occasionally; add more water if nec. - when zucs are tender, remove to a serving dish; save 1/2 cup of the liquid SAUCE: beat 2 egg yolks and juice of 1 lemon together in a small saucepan; add some of the hot cooking liquid from the zucs; cook over gentle heat, whisking, till slightly thickened; strain & pour over zucs I was thinking of trying this with my pattypan squash --- would be pretty! Thank you Karyn. I knew you would know some of them, lol. I bet you will know the others when they bloom. Maybe it will be something I can share. Poor Daniella. I know how you feel about the dog. I have gotten BB where she will leave most of my stuff alone as long as I don't leave her outside by herself too long. I will post pics and be back on more later. My sister has to leave tomorrow so I have been spending as much time as possible with her. Morgan, My daughter has been glued to the computer reading Iniasha cartoon scripts for 3 days. I have to make that girl get outside with me. My sister and I have been taking care of the flower beds and they are looking so good I hate for her to leave. She has been a big help to me. She gets up early so she waters in the morning and then we run around all day and I water what has dried out in the evenings again. Something has bitten or hacked off all the leaves on my clump of amaryllis. I bet John did it thinking it looked Yellow. He doesn't realize you have to let them die back before you cut them off. I am going to teach him about all these plants yet, lol. Gotta get to bed so we can get up really early in the morning and dig up a few more things for her to take home. We just loaded her car and all the stuff we got and there are empty spots so I'm sure I can fit some more plants in there, lol. I love her so much. She is really special and it has been so good to have somebody here with me that enjoys plants as much as I do. I will probably regret it later since I am sunburnt to a crisp since we got into some big fish right when we planned to leave the lake and ended up fishing from 6am til 3pm. She was so white I let her use my sun screen so she wouldn't be hurting driving back tomorrow and I got roasted. I bet it blisters and I look like a leper by tomorrow. Yuck. Well I 'll be around tomorrow I hope I dont have to go to work. I am dead tired and still have to get her a few more things together. If it wasn't for Mom living with her I would talk her into moving here. She loves it here. Night everyone. I'll post pics when the plants bloom that I didn't know what they are.

HI I'm new to this so if I don't do what I should let know please??? Ok so I am behind on posting my wants and if I am the skymaid you are looking for I just forgot to check back here. I'll get the hang of things in a while. I collect wolves, have my pink,purple,blue,white garden all planned out but yellows, reds ,oranges, etc keep popping up in strange places. I love old fashioned Victorian or cottage gardens, not too fussy where something grows asa long as it's pretty and smells good. We grow veggies too, mainly a lot of hot peppers and tomatoes for salsas and sauces. Hubby is making me raised beds because I can get down, getting up is a big problem. Let's see I have pierced ears, unshaved legs...haha...love purple, collect a lot of Native American things, colorful roosters in my kitchen which hubby says it's time to reduce the chicken coop. I write poetry, short stories, read a LOT, play Pogo and spoil the grandkids. I like surprises, love perennials, any flower actually that can survive zone 4. Most of my yard is sunny, do have some ferns on the north side of the house...love ferns and lily of the valley.

Hi Sapphires- Dingbats are almost always just tiny pictures/symbols and not letters. There is such a wide variety out there! I have butterflies, flowers, postage stamps, ethnic designs, holiday images, animals, and all other kinds of patterns & images. There is a different picture assigned to each letter of the alphabet. It is a way to add cute little images to your projects that will always be nice & clear no matter how large you make them. Let's say you are making a card and want a border of flowers along the bottom. You can make that border by typing a row of flower dingbats. Or maybe on the inside you have a birthdy greeting and you want a little picture of a hat or cake beside the words. You can type the birthday dingbat and make it any color you want.
I can type a dingbat in my image editor and fill it with a a pattern or photo and turn it into my own custom clip art.
I collect dingbats for various crafts, like card making, stickers, creating background papers, shrinky plastic charms, image transfer on polymer clay, & the marble magnets & pushpins. I even glued a bunch to the links on a blank bracelet and made my own custom jewelry!

Thanks so much for explaining it to me. Sounds like fun, I think I am gettting hooked. Let me ask you, can I save them to a folder I create other than the font folder, and when I want to use them just open that folder, minimize it and then be able to use that font? Awaiting your reply and then I'm off to get me some dingbats. LOl.

The dingbats can be downloaded into their own folder apart from fonts (that's what I do) for organization purposes. But since they really are a font made of pictures instead of letters, you need to install them into your system fonts folder just like your other fonts. Once they are installed they will be useable.
TIP-I double-click on each font in my fonts folder, which causes a window to pop open displaying all the characters in that font. You can print that page and keep it in a notebook. I just browse thru the notebook and I can look at all the characters at once, making it easy to find the exact one I want to use. I find it easier to do it this way rather than relying on a tiny on-screen preview.
