OT Bloomers, froggie and Id's needed.

Here are some of my flowers that were blooming this weekend and a frog on my lotus leaf. The other is my water lilly and my tuber rose about to bloom. You can smell it already!

Next are some plants I need ID for if anyone knows what they are. I got most of them at the flea market today and the people didn't speak english. One the said was purple and has a flower inside a flower, another they said was a flower from hail so of course I had to buy it just to see what it could possibly be, one they said blooms at night smell really good and goes away in the morning. Some of the others are in bloom but don't know what they are. If anyone knows the names of any of the next pics please tell me.

1 & 2 are Malva zebrina, 3-5 are balsam impatiens (touch me nots) 7 is celosia (cockscomb). I don't know what the others are. I love the smell of tuberoses. Your plants look great.

Very nice Kristy! I need to buy some plants so I have more stuff blooming around here..Some spots in the beds are so bare waiting for the seedlings to get bigger..some still havent even popped. Then therea re the beds that I didnt fence, and the dogs are trampling everything, waaahhhh. My mums were coming up so big and full..now they are half dead..same for some poor hostas. I ran out of fencing! dang dogs! As soon as the older puppy is finally getting the hang of not going in the un-fenced beds, now the new puppy is in them. Dingbat bit a digitalis leaf yesterday, good thing she doesnt go out unsupervised. Poor plants can't get a break! Thanks for sharing! Sorry about the rant, lol.

Oh, Tiffy, I have absolutely no idea what the name of that azalea is. That bush was here when I bought my house 10 years ago. That pic does not do it justice, it was gorgeous this year. (That was a pic I almost erased before posting the link to my album!) Marianne: All I can say is take as many photos as possible and make good use of your zoom lens! The absolute joy of digital is being able to take a hundred pictures of one thing and being able to dump the 99 that didn't work. I just use a point and shoot, and I honestly 99% of the time use the auto setting. My first Panasonic had a 6 optical zoom. This new one only has 5, and I really miss that extra 1. Pitimpinai, oooh, I love that clematis. Purple is my favorite color! I have several clematises, but I think somehow they mostly ended up dark purple. I would really like to get a large white one. A couple streets away from me, someone has one on their fence and I just drool every time it blooms. Bonnie: If you're still following this! That yarrow I think is Moonshine...moonbeam? I love it. It's the only achillea I still have left in my garden. The others have all come and gone. Did I miss any other questions? I think someone asked about the name of the salvia. I don't know, I'm sorry. I am VERY type B about that kinda stuff and I never keep track of names. I do well to remember the official name :) Everytime I post over at the daylily forum I have to begin my post with "I'm sorry I don't know the name of this ...I just want to share....or....look at my beautiful seeding...uh, I have no idea who the parents are!!" I always feel so inadequate when I have to admit that! Aliska, I'm going to try to fiddle with some of the settings. I do enjoy taking photos. A friend of mine is raising her granddaughter and I am the official photographer. I keep a normal photobook with a tons of pictures in it, but since she was two I have been making books for her chronicling her year (This is the year I was two, these are my adventures when I was three...) Have you seen Shutterfly? I upload the pictures all year to there and then after her birthday I write the dialogue and pick the photos and presto, a hard bound book arrives. I have thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed doing that. I don't really have any memories of my early childhood, so I wanted to make sure she will always remember all the fun times we had. She loves reading the books. We used to read them as bedtime stories! Uh....grab a cuppa tea, I'm really going off topic! (like I haven't been!) Here's one of my photos that I just love. It was a total accident. My nephew pointed out to me later that I had a "sports" setting on my camera :) But then I wouldn't have got this cool pic! We were at a tiny rodeo in Beaver Creek Colorado when I took this.

That's one nice thing about living in the DC suburbs. You name it and we have it. lol It's such a multi-cultural region. Because of the government, the embassies, NIH, John's Hopkins, etc there's people from all over the world living nearby. The blooms of the butterfly ginger small great, nothing like ginger but the foliage does have a scent if crushed. The butterfly ginger isn't a true ginger if I'm not mistaken. Kylie if there's something you want me to pick up let me know. I'll let you know how the ginsing does. One of the roots already has a little bit of green sprouting. I'm going to start them in pots. If they grow I'll have to figure out where I can plant them. I think they like being in the woods around the base of big oak trees or something like that. Too bad I only have little ornamental flowering trees in my yard. lol Karyn

Wow, Aerangis punctata brings Calvin over to the hoya forum for a visit! Hi Calvin, how's your kirkii doing? Mine is looking good again. I think I burned it a little when my timer spazzed out. I think the lights stayed on 24-7 for over a week. Also, I KNEW there were Aerangis growers out there. Renee, your mooreana is gorgeous. Reminds me a lot of mystacidii. I seem to gravitate heavily toward the Aerangis vs the Angraecum orchids too. There's just something about them. I love that arachnopus, Calvin. They look so delicate. Me, I'm swimming in seedlings as of late. I now have those modesta seedlings still, a bunch of mystacidii seedlings, and Neofinetia falcata Shu Ten Nou seedlings. GG, I think almost all of my orchids will bloom white. Then again, almost all of my orchids are Angraecoids. I'm gonna let Mike do the orchid recommending, because I seem to be the contrary one about orchid growing stereotypes... the ones that are supposed to be easy to grow I do very poorly with, yet the supposedly trickier Angraecoids are much easier for me. I mean, everyone says the best beginner orchids are Phalaenopsis and Paphiopedilums, and I have killed both. Numerous times. Oh, and Oncidiums and Oncidium intergenerics. Percentage wise, I have killed far far fewer Angraecoids. I'm still struggling a bit with Pleurothallids but I love them. One that is doing really well for me even during the time when I felt overwhelmed by life was Chaemangis (or Microterangis) hariotiana. It actually blooms pumpkin orange, but each individual flower is teeny tiny. It has bloomed faithfully in April every single year since I've had it. It is super cute! Here's an early pic of it: Looking at this picture now I realize just how much this guy has grown. Maybe I'll get a new picture of it this weekend.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone. Eileen the Hoya with the pink nectar stained flowers is Hoya meliflua, I post the names up above the photos. I wanted to make sure you had the right name to go on your Hoya wish list. :) Cindy congratulations on the lasiantha blooms, awesome colour! David I am fascinated with the Shipibo and have the tapestry, pottery and a hand embroidered cloth as well. The Shipibo are the tribal group who utilize the psychoactive admixture called Ayahuasca. Thank you Karyn. I knew you would know some of them, lol. I bet you will know the others when they bloom. Maybe it will be something I can share. Poor Daniella. I know how you feel about the dog. I have gotten BB where she will leave most of my stuff alone as long as I don't leave her outside by herself too long. I will post pics and be back on more later. My sister has to leave tomorrow so I have been spending as much time as possible with her. Morgan, My daughter has been glued to the computer reading Iniasha cartoon scripts for 3 days. I have to make that girl get outside with me. My sister and I have been taking care of the flower beds and they are looking so good I hate for her to leave. She has been a big help to me. She gets up early so she waters in the morning and then we run around all day and I water what has dried out in the evenings again. Something has bitten or hacked off all the leaves on my clump of amaryllis. I bet John did it thinking it looked Yellow. He doesn't realize you have to let them die back before you cut them off. I am going to teach him about all these plants yet, lol. Gotta get to bed so we can get up really early in the morning and dig up a few more things for her to take home. We just loaded her car and all the stuff we got and there are empty spots so I'm sure I can fit some more plants in there, lol. I love her so much. She is really special and it has been so good to have somebody here with me that enjoys plants as much as I do. I will probably regret it later since I am sunburnt to a crisp since we got into some big fish right when we planned to leave the lake and ended up fishing from 6am til 3pm. She was so white I let her use my sun screen so she wouldn't be hurting driving back tomorrow and I got roasted. I bet it blisters and I look like a leper by tomorrow. Yuck. Well I 'll be around tomorrow I hope I dont have to go to work. I am dead tired and still have to get her a few more things together. If it wasn't for Mom living with her I would talk her into moving here. She loves it here. Night everyone. I'll post pics when the plants bloom that I didn't know what they are.
