Doing a master bath reno.....sorry it's long

We hadn't planned on doing it this soon but last week we had a pipe leak in the foundation at the inside wall between bed and bath room. They have fixed the pipe but now we're left waiting on insurance to settle on cost of repairs and replacement of carpet in bedroom and cabinets in bathroom.

I tols my husband we might as well go ahead with the reno being that it's going to be torn up and thing's in a mess anyway. We just replaced carpet through out the two living ares, kitchen and hallways, had it painted too with lots of repairs to ceiling and tear out of wallpaper. Took about two months. We still haven't gotten eventhing back to the way we want it, still have to paint base board and thing's just keep coming up that those projects get pushed to the side.

We plan on going with the place that did the tile, they have all the contacts for everything we want done. I told them I don't won't to have to lift a finger on this one, meaning clean up or finishing anything ourself. I want to walk into our bed and bathroom like they do on HGTV. Everything in it's place and everything shinning.

Ok, now for the plans, Bedroom is only getting new flooring and painted. Bathroom is getting a total reno, gutted out, tearing out tub and a shower, they are on seprate walls.

New shower will be a walk in and go where the tub is, shower will be turned into two thing's Adding more space to my closet and linen closet.

For the vanity area, going with a full cabinet on bottom with a tall slender cab in the center on top of the counter top,new lighting, new flooring and such.

I love the looks of the shower panel, I want a good one and have found some on line that look great and prices are way down. Please tell what brand is best and why.

If we do a shower door I want the frameless style. Is there any reason not to do a frameless shower door? Can you tell me of any problems these doors have?

We have just installed 2 shower screens and love love love them. One is in a tub/shower combo and the other is in a neo shower in the master bath. We found the best prices were through local glass companies which I never would of thought of. You just squeegee it down after shower and they stay sparkling clean. No track to clean. Plus they make the bath look larger and shows off the tile.

My DH was telling me about the shower screen, I don't know if they would fit in the area were the shower will be.
There are closet on both sides where the shower is going. I do plan on going with the frameless shower door, this will show off the tile and no messy track to try and keep clean.

I wouldn't spend the money on the rough ins. As a realtor, I can assure you, you won't get your return on it. Mongo hit the nail on the head. As long as you have a tub somewhere else in the house then you are good to go. Now where you would definately benefit from roughing in a bathroom for future use is in a basement. It's a popular option that lot of buyers like to see, it costs a lot of money to do after the cement pour and so you'll get a return on having it in place should you need to sale. But in regards to a bathtub in the master, listen to your DH this time and save your money, believe me at some point during the build, you'll be glad you did!

I have 2 windows (with faux wood blinds covering them thank you) at right angles above the tub in the master bath, so no wall art there. However, I do have a prominent piece of wall separating 2 mirrors over our vanities.........This wall is crying for something but I haven't found it. The other day, I saw some really pretty decorative wall clocks and have been thinking about that. For some reason I wasn't sure if it would be odd to have a pretty wall clock hanging there, although honestly it kind of makes sense. What do you think? The ones I saw (at Ross or TJMaxx) were round and had nice detailed frames. I am linking a nice substantial one I just saw on the o site, just wondering what the decorating experts here think of a decorative clock as a piece of décor in a bathroom.square not round but a pretty clock

One question I have back - is about the vanity mirrors. This was another thing that got left by the wayside. We'd planned frameless floating mirrors, but then I was thinking that maybe framed mirrors would be better. Once things broke down, out of desperation we just grabbed two inexpensive big-box mirrors and put them up so we had something. But I'd appreciate any thoughts - would framed mirrors look better there, or go back to the original floating idea? I even thought about oval vs. rectangular. Yet another option is to mirror that whole wall, but I thought that was too much of seeing myself...! Thanks!

We love our’s on the North Carolina coast. Our’s are electric, not hot water. We set the temperature we want and they turn on when the temperature in the room drops. Had not expected to leave it on all day, but our cats sleep there most of the time n the winter.

We did a frameless in our first bath remodel. We really really like it. The glass tile in shower is beautiful behind it. We just had the local glass company come out and measure when the tile was in.

I don't find it easy to keep sparkling at all, but I expected that. However I've been out of the house for 6 months (the rest of the remodel is not so fast) and when I get back I'm going to scrub it down and BAN any non-glycerin soaps in there. I think that will help a lot.

I do not know what features you want in a shower panel. Hansgrohe/grohe are considered to be really good brands. I happened to see their shower panels on costco.com if you are a member, at VERY attractive prices.

Regarding frameless, what are your new shower dimensions? I heard that frameless ones usually leak water through the door gaps, and therefore not recommended unless the shower head is at least 5ft away from the frame.

I don't know where you heard that frameless shower doors leak. Mine doesn't, and the shower heads are not 5 feet away from the frame, more like 21".There's a silicone sweep at the bottom, at the side with the hinge, and at the opening. And the door is high enough that we can't splash over it. I've run the shower head at the full force setting against the door, and there's no leak.

I'm thinking of making up a vinegar solution to spray the tile and glass with every time we shower to see how that works.

It will be 3 or 4 weeks before the work begins due to planning and getting started. I'm having it all do and told the guy I don't want to have to do any of the clean up. We just had tile put in and painting do in the main part of the house but we did the base boards and doing the painting and sealing the grout. I got most of the grout done in the past two days just a little more to go. I'm worn out and it's taking a toll on me. I told my DH I'm glad we're getting all this work done before we get in our 60's LOL I know I would not want to nor do I think I could handle all we've gone through in the past few months at that age. DH does not like all the mess and upset that goes with reno's.

Being that there is a tub where the new shower is going I would think it is 5' by 3 or so, that's just a guess and they made extend it out some if they can.

I'll be glad to say bye bye to the 80's pink and blue wallpaper LOL.

Re: keeping the frameless showers clean...My husband applied RainX on the glass. The water just beads up like on the car's windshield. I think that I learned that trick from this website.
