Fall Centerpiece

It has been feeling like fall here, too, and I decided to try my hand at a centerpiece. These are all things I already had: various fake greenery, a bright orange fake pumpkin I never really liked, and an urn that I recently bought for $4 at the local thrift shop.

I took the pumpkin out to the garage and sprayed it w/ a little brown paint. I didn't cover it entirely, I kind of liked seeing some of the orange peek through. Then I plopped them all together and it looks like this:

Not too bad!

oh mamacass...Your centerpiece turned out very nice. I really like what you did...I especially like that you painted that pumpkin and how it turned out!!
Hmmm got me thinking about that idea. I like it.

Looks like it could be in a magazine!! Great redo on the pumpkin, makes such a difference,so rich looking now & can be used for much longer season. Get Thanksgiving napkins to compliment it!! Jan

Oh MY GOODNESS Ladies!!! I am sooooo touched by such warm compliments!! I really just wanted to show off the compote and the fact that I had something similar..Never expected to receive so many responses. LOL As far as me making the fruit compote centerpiece...I really didn't think of the picture.. In fact, when my DD did the Southern Home party, it was around the holidays, and she made a centerpiece using faux fruit and berries. I always like the look, and had the fruit, and so did likewise. When you all mentioned the picture...I had to laugh..I just didn't think about it. Well...thank you about the chairs. They are comfy...In fact, I'm trying to sell my DR set..table & chairs and will be listing it on CL. The Mirror in the hall, is really DH's 'pick'. Too elaborate for me..but he will NOT part w/it..so it stays for a while...lol. The Buffet I purchased at a tag sale and refinished it. Thank you so much everyone, for liking it all. kathleen... I made the window treatments..I'm a 'toile' freak betty...LOL...Bring the 'truck' around, and I'll have the chairs and mirror ready >>> or maybe it would be EASIER for YOU to ship YOUR dishes out to ME >>> LOLOL prosperity...the compote is made of some sort of composition material which looks like wood..it's really very heavy

snolady, thanks for the link to the decorating blog. I copied it and sent it to my SIL who used a lot of wine glasses in the centerpieces at her daughters wedding. Maybe she'll get some out and try it and loan me a few since I scaled back on everything in my kitchen cupboards. Dang, I want to be a minimalist and still have things on hand to decorate for the holidays...is that an oxymoron?

Glad everyone is enjoying these pictures, this time of year the magazines are so full of neat of stuff for the Holidays. My favorite time to buy them. Kathleen, no matter how I feel, I can't miss this show as it's very important. Should my Lacey win, it would finish her. That's dogworld speak for becoming an AKC Champion. She could then retire and I would only have the year old youngster to show then. Lot easier on my poor body to show one with all the walking and running. I think there's a written rule somewhere, LOL, that parking is as far from the rings as possible. I've walked up to half a mile, leading two dogs in one hand and pulling a dolly loaded with crate and stuff in the other. I no longer can pull it tho and have to have someone help. My poor DH got drafted from his golf this Sat, especially as show is 2 hrs away and I can't drive that far with rgt leg issues. But I've been doing this for 35 yrs by myself, and hope to have one more year in me to show Karly Anne thru 08. She will be my last one to show due to the Fibro. hugs, Karen

Since hubby and I are spending our first Thanksgiving apart since our wedding (just a quirky course of events), IÂm purposely avoiding the usual Thanksgiving dÃ©cor and leaving the pilgrim decorations to the two families that will be hosting us at opposite ends of the state. I just couldnÂt bring myself to pull out all the turkey stuff with no one to cook for and then put it all away to start Christmas. So whatÂs the fall theme? Football, of course! Dozens and dozens of long-time football rivalries, big and small, are traditionally played the weekend before Thanksgiving. Those in New Haven have simply titled the event The Game (Harvard vs. Yale). Here on the west coast weÂve dubbed it Big Game (Stanford vs. Cal). No matter who you favor, my tableÂs ready! Fancy food is forbidden. ItÂs grilled bratwurst, buns, condiments, cabbage slaw, baked beans, pickles, relishes, chips, dip, and cold beer. Stand for the kick-off.

Again, you did wonderful, in fact if you put those two pieces on one of your end tables (or buffet) with a taller lamp, you will have a wonderful vingette (the classic "odd numbers" of 3, 5 etc.)
And as others here have noted, great job on the pumpkin, just with a little effort you have changed the bright color to something more enjoyable.

Love that and never really thought about spraying the pumpkins lightly to tone down. Now I have to go shopping for more pumpkins.

Your arrangement turned out nice. I like the toned down pumpkin much better. I never would have thought to use spray paint, but I have used a dark stain on items to tone them down before. Always love a quick fix like that. Luvs

Cass,your centerpiece is lovely. Isn't it great when you can take a few items you have and make something nice out of them - I know I love that feeling - makes me almost feel "crafty" which I am TOTALLY NOT!

Looking really good there!!! Why DO the stores make everything so BRIGHT??? I wish they understood the idea of subtle as well as you do!
Brown shoepolish also does a good job of "antiquing" things!
