Opinions on the Bissell Spot Bot, please, if you have one

Thinking of buying that small, portable Bissell carpet cleaner I see on the TV commercials. I think it's called the Spot Bot. Need one mainly so when my DLH tabby leaves a hairball present on the carpet I can quickly clean it up and hopefully do a better job than the mop/bucket/scrub brush I use now. Before I invest in one of these I would like to know what you think of yours and if it's worth the money. In the past we have had a big carpet cleaning machine (given to me by my mother) but DH never thought it did much good and besides,those big machines are heavy and bulky. I just need the occasional steamer for spots.

My husband and I use this for the small messes my cat makes occasionally. This is not useful for anything larger than a very small mess. I tried cleaning a 3 foot square once with the hand hold tool and it was a LOT of work. The bot does not heat the water, it uses tap water and it is not made to be used with hot water as it would lead to leaks in the machine. I have found that the best way to use the bot is to only use water in the machine and to put the cleaning solution in a spray bottle. I spray the stain and then use the machine with just water. This keeps suds down and prevents build up of soap in my carpet but still is enough to clean the carpet, I also save on the amount of special cleaning fluid I have to buy. the spot bot has two settings, light and heavy. I've never needed to use the heavy setting. If you have a very dirty carpet the bot may leave behind small "clean" spots in your dirty carpets so I would only use this in a relatively clean house. I love my spot bot and I hope yours is useful as well.

So this would be good for the hairball that my cat regurgitates at least once a week? They are staining my carpets terribly!

I have the "Little Green Machine" but it not convenient to take out for spot cleaning and it clogs all the time.

I have 3 cats and love mine. We initially used it before cleaning the entire carpet. Bad idea. I had clean circles. Since then we have cleaned the entire carpet. Now we use the spot bot to take care of spots until the next big cleaning (I can go longer between cleanings now). I don't even need carpet cleaner most of the time and it's soooo easy. Place on spot and walk away. Plus it's really easy to empty and fill, unlike some hand held cleaners.

I actually do not have one of the machines you mentioned but I do have a Bissell Powersteamer. It is a large upright machine which is very good at cleaning my carpet. The house that we moved into had oldish carpeting in a sort of ginger color. I have a hairy, large-footed dog who carries in a lot of dirt. I also have a husband who always expresses amazement when I point out that he has just made big muddy tracks across the rug. To be fair, I have to admit that I spill a lot of coffee and wine. Since I also do not like to clean, the stains usually don't get cleaned up right away, as they should. They still come out! I don't know how this machine compares with the Hoover machine in cleaning power. I am thinking of getting a Little Green Steam Machine because it is somewhat of a chore to drag the big machine down to clean up recent spots. I would be interested in hearing how the Little Green Steam Machine compares to any larger, upright model. Arlene M.

Linelle, You are welcome, and I couldn't have said it better myself. Lynn, I've seen many a photo of your beautiful home and can't imagine you are having a hard time finding a way to display your photos! I can understand why you wouldn't want to print them in black and white though and agree that you shouldn't! I love family history and you're lucky you had pictures that are good enough to frame. My father passed some years ago, and all the pictures I have of him are too small for framing. So for Christmas I designed a black leather bound table book with all of his pictures in it (through Kodak) and had one made for each of my siblings as Christmas gifts. I have one of those as well for my living room table, and am planning on making one with special memories of my daughter (my one and only) and another of with our family history. I have an uncle who has spent years tracing our irish history and has tons of photos that will be perfect for the book. On the other hand, my wall will be a little bit of everything, mostly people and things we love. I sort of envision the collages you see at some of the restaurants. Nice photos mixed in with fun abstract stuff, lots of color. I've been collecting things for months now, and will post a picture when it's done. If I can ever figure out which wall would work best that is! thanks again! Yadax3, that is a very clever idea, and would work perfect in my office. Dust, that's probably something I should consider, but I've wanted this wall for so darn long, I think I'll just have to invest in a good duster! :c) Oakleyok-I hope you will remember to post a picture when your wall is done. Ok now I think I get it too- you are just showing as a point of reference how the rooms play off of each other, and are thinking that in addition to doing the kitchen, you would also do the fireplace wall and the wall perpendicular to it(facing the kitchen).... I think that sounds good, but being the cautious type, I think maybe have that in mind but first just do the kitchen - I do think that will look great. And, chances are doing it in the family room will be nice as well, but you might just decide that it could be too much... so I would wait and do one step at a time. Of course , that is my bias because I frequently don't see the obvious and need time to "digest". To repeat though, I do think the larger tiles in the latest rendition will be wonderful in your kitchen. (I believe we have a winner!) :)

I love my spot bot and use it all the time. I am on my 2nd one. The first one wore out after about 5 years. I almost ruined the first one by trying to make my own chemical solutions to go into the tank. I learned my lesson...just buy the premade stuff. It is designed for that piece of equipment. If mine broke tomorrow, I'd buy it again. Get the solution with the oxi-clean in it to get that wonderful green bile color out of the carpet from the cat puke. That's how I almost messed mine up was trying to make my own oxi-clean solution. Oh well...live and learn. Good luck..

I think the spot bot is very convenient. Just pick up any solids, spray the stain, place the machine and press start. As pigolden says you must use the special cleaning fluids and the oxi-clean fluids are best for organic stains. I've been using mine regularly for 2.5 years and a few months ago I had to replace the cap and 0-rings on the water holding tank (it was leaking). I ordered a replacement cap online for about $5 and they sent me 2. I think it either was worn out or that I had used too warm water than screwed the cap on too tight which stretched the cap out. So be careful and just use room temperature or cold water. Not warm or hot. I think it is great that they sell replacement parts so the whole machine doesn't need to be scrapped for a minor failing.
