I have mine in the dining room but I think that all the walls you mentiond above can work. I'm at work now but will try to find you some nice pictures later today.

I've never been a big fan of photo walls though I've seen some that look really great, and I really like the ones some have done here with black and whites. We used to have a sofa table behind the couch where all the framed family photos sat. The boyfriends used to thing they had met approval if their photo showed up on the table. It was pretty funny. Our new house didn't work right with the sofa table so I've made a photo wall with shelves in our living room. Now that I've taken this pic and looked at it I think it needs a little tweaking but here it is just to give you an idea. I know it's not exactly what you have in mind but just another thought.

We have quite a few family photos and I particularly like to display the old black and whites and candid family shots rather than posed studio portraits. We have the candids displayed mainly on the wall of the upstairs bedroom foyer and den area. I am thinking of having some hand colored sketches of each of my children on the wall heading upstairs mixed with some vintage mirrors. We have a very talented local artist who does gorgeous renderings

I have family photos in every room, including my living room. My family is very important to me and it makes me feel happy and alive to see their faces looking back at me. I have nice frames and mats and I try to group them in aesthetically pleasing combinations. I have a few pieces of framed art, but nothing I value as much as my people.

When my husband died 4+ years ago, I started sticking old, forgotten, unframed photos of him on the wall above my office desk, until it pretty much covered the entire wall. It saved me. In preparation for that room being painted tomorrow, I finally had to take them all down. It was okay. I think I'll choose a few of the ones I really love--the ones I can't live without--frame them, and put them back.

Mimi 2006 - thank you for the pic, I love your grouping, the idea of shelving is an interesting one.

Linelle - I'm really sorry for your loss. A wall full of photos is my style, I love that and feel the same way. I want my family to stay connected to the good times old and new.

Before the remodel I had the family pics in the DR. There was an antique mirror in the middle of the wall, my family's pictures on one side, and my dh family's pics on the other.

Now that our hallway will be much lighter than it was, I'm going to use one wall of it for the better pictures, and the really special pictures of my kids and grandson will have a place in EVERY room. :) Not a grouping, but this time I'm using frames that sit on a table or a book shelf.

After several decades of cutting, matting, framing, hanging, displaying, dusting, and rearranging countless constantly changing photos, I decided to hang a large fabric board with crisscrossed ribbon (on clearance at Pottery Barn) above the desk in our office.

I started our new collage by removing every 'current' photo we had from its frame and sticking it on the board. Since then I've added virtually every photo we've received in Christmas cards and the like. When the board gets too full I just archive the older photos.

Whenever someone visits my home they inevitably see the board in my office and they really seem to appreciate finding their photos displayed there amongst all of our friends and family. A couple of people have even sent their photos to us following their visit just to ensure their place on our wall. And every day we get to enjoy images of people we care about without any of the work or expense of framed photos. Of course we still have a few choice 'forever' photos (i.e. our wedding, dearly departed, etc.) displayed in frames here and there but for the most part we don't frame photos any longer.

I have a grouping of DH's old family photos in our living room intermixed with some paintings, the old family radio, some antique books and a statue that looks just like DH's father . . . special pieces. These are VERY old photos, as his great-grandfather was an Englishman (the younger son who didn't inherit the house and land) who immigrated to this country, became a cowboy in the Oklahoma Territory and married a Cherokee woman. A fun and interesting history there, so I keep them out where company can see them.

Our personal family photos are hung in our long bedroom/bathroom hallway. There are many of them and I love seeing them, but for the life of me, I can't decide on how to unify them! They look like heck (IMO) so I don't have any pics of that grouping. My dilemma is that I LIKE colored, candid photos of my family and refuse to reprint them in B&W in order for them to look cohesive and trendy . . . and better ;^P. And, I can't decide if I want all the frames to be in a medium or dark wood, black or pewter colored wood.

Someday I'll finally decide, but until then I read every thread like this in hopes of the right inspiration for me. Hope you get lots of ideas, Lukkiirish. I'll be lurking for ideas!

For a while, I had a hallway with photos on shelves, much like mimi's. The hallway faced the living room, so the photos were easy to see whether you were in the hall or not. But DH couldn't get the shelves hung just right, and after they fell off the wall the second time, I decided to do something else. So I moved all the photos to two tables in the den and arranged them in different heights, some on top of books, with a small figurine, candlestick, etc, here and there. The frames do not match - they all have just a touch of gold on them so they don't clash. I've had many more compliments on these arrangements than I did on the photo wall. I was initially worried about dust, but so far that hasn't been a problem with a good feather duster. Years ago my sister had a similar arrangment in her den but with all silver plated frames. It was gorgeous. Mine is a little more economical. Good luck deciding how/where you choose to display your family. :)

Lynn, I've seen many a photo of your beautiful home and can't imagine you are having a hard time finding a way to display your photos! I can understand why you wouldn't want to print them in black and white though and agree that you shouldn't! I love family history and you're lucky you had pictures that are good enough to frame. My father passed some years ago, and all the pictures I have of him are too small for framing. So for Christmas I designed a black leather bound table book with all of his pictures in it (through Kodak) and had one made for each of my siblings as Christmas gifts. I have one of those as well for my living room table, and am planning on making one with special memories of my daughter (my one and only) and another of with our family history. I have an uncle who has spent years tracing our irish history and has tons of photos that will be perfect for the book. On the other hand, my wall will be a little bit of everything, mostly people and things we love. I sort of envision the collages you see at some of the restaurants. Nice photos mixed in with fun abstract stuff, lots of color. I've been collecting things for months now, and will post a picture when it's done. If I can ever figure out which wall would work best that is! thanks again!

Yadax3, that is a very clever idea, and would work perfect in my office. Dust, that's probably something I should consider, but I've wanted this wall for so darn long, I think I'll just have to invest in a good duster! :c)

Two years ago we got a large, high end digital photo frame. It has a 120GB removable drive and I don't even know how many photos it could hold! The company we bought it from will do custom frames to match any decor. I bought the largest one they had at the time, 19", but they have come out with larger ones since then. I display current photos and recently added old slides that my Dad had digitized. It is a conversation piece during parties and people stand around looking at the pictures scroll through! We got it from www.photovu.com. When I bought it this was the only company that offered this type of large frame. There might be other options now. It is a great way to display what sometimes seems like an overwhelming number of digital photos.

Hollygarden, displaying on the tables is a great idea, my mother has something similar on a bookshelf in one of her spare rooms. I think my cats would probably have a field day with that in my house as they love to play havoc with the things I already have on my tables! Makes me laugh just to think about what they'd do with the pictures! HA!

Chispa: my daughter did something similar with her flat screen tv! They have a computer hooked up to it, and it displays gorgeous pictures my son in law has taken while hiking. Great alternative and idea!
