I have tumbled marble in my bathroom and tried a tile spray to remove the soap buildup as well as Quick n brite. These two did not work for me, though. After browsing a tile forum I came up with using an ammonia based product. I ended up using pine-sol diluted in my bathtub and a non-scratching scrubby. Not only did this work, but when I drained my tub the little grip circles on the bottom of my tub were back to white...something that even a soaking with bleach couldn't seem to fix for me.

Hi abwhitney: In lieu of an expensive frameless shower door, many people on this forum have opted for a shower curtain instead. You can get a curved shower curtain rod or a straight one and then a liner and the actual shower curtain. There are a lot of nice shower curtains with large grommets that will give a modern look and are machine washable. I saw a nice, clean white shower curtain with the big grommets at Lowes this weekend. In terms of a bathtub, I think Kohler has quite a few to choose from. If you have the room, I suggest you look at the Kohler expanse tub. It's acrylic and easy to clean. I agree with pricklypearcactus in that large ceramic 10 x 13 or porcelain tiles will be easier to clean and much more low maintenance than marble or natural stone. Many tile manufacturers make ceramic and porcelain tile that mimic the natural stones quite nicely. For ventilation purposes, many on this forum recommend the Panasonic Whisper vent fan. I'm not where the intersection of modern versus contemporary lies for you, but Duravit and IKEA make wonderful vanities for space constrained areas. If anyone had an idea who that was, I would. The bulding is 10 years old, and we bought the apartment 5 years ago, and moved in 16 months ago. When I have needed other info, the building manager just says that the developer left no info, not even drawings of the building. I had to ask the super what the floor material even was.

Easy clean is a thing in my house ... and it's going to be even more a thing in my new house! Specific thoughts: - Avoid white-white and black ... go with something that won't show every bit of dirt. - Yes to shower curtains instead of glass doors. Yes to minimal grout lines. - Put your shower niche in a pony wall so it isn't visible from the rest of the bathroom. - We're planning to attach a half-bath to the master ... only one toilet on the first floor to clean. - Tile to waist height behind the toilet ... because men. - Choose light fixtures that point downward ... they can't catch dead bugs or accumulate dust. - Pick the same towels for all your bathrooms ... they'll wash together and it won't matter which bathroom they go into. - Plan for closed storage; an awful lot can go into an 18-24" linen tower. As part of your storage, include a spot for a hamper. Plan spaces for your hair dryer, extra toilet paper, etc. ... if you don't plan, it'll be left out on the countertop all the time. - Avoid freestanding tubs and choose a tub filler that includes a sprayer (easier to clean the tub). - Take your vanity cabinet all the way to the wall. Why create a couple inches that're difficult to reach? - Choose a one-hole faucet so you have less to "clean around". If you can't do that, choose a wide-spread faucet rather than a bitty faucet that requires you to "floss" between the pieces. - Keep it modest in size. Large bathrooms (and duplicate fixtures) require more time to clean.
