slightly OT: hair drying towel?

I have long hair. I use a really old, thin, ratty towel as my hair-drying towel because it is very absorbent and it stays wound around my head without getting heavy etc. Now that I have a gorgeous (to me:) new bathroom...I am hesitant to hang my ratty old towel in there! Does anyone know of any good hair-drying towel? I have seen chamois-type things advertised.

I have an Aquis Hair Towel from Bed Bath and Beyond. It is very absorbent and is light weight. I've had mine for atleast 4 years (maybe more - it's older than my son) and it still works and looks great.

I use the Aquis towels, too--have for years. I replace mine every few years or so. I prefer the larger (longer) size so I can wrap it turban-style. I even take one with me when I travel!

Thanks so much for posting this walkin--I'm actually in the market for a clothesline and this was very helpful. I think I'll stick with the basic 4 hinge collapsable line I grew up with. I think the thing that broke my mother's heart the most about downsizing from their home to a condo was the loss of her clothesline. She hung out laundry every day, even throughout the winter. As a kid I remember the dreaded "please take in the laundry--I have a few things on the line"--it would always be a lengthy chore because my mother knew how to optimize every square inch on that clothesline--it was never just a "few" things. I always had a clothesline until we moved to our current house where there are "restrictive covenants" about such things. However, I've decided the heck with that and am putting one up anyhow. Let them track me down. I find hanging clothes out on a breezy summer morning to be highly relaxing. When visiting Ireland last year I was struck by the billboards and advertisements for "outdoor drying system"--many just like the ones shown in the wiki link. Covered outdoor dryers are popular considering Ireland's weather. Mary

You can *sort of* clean it up a bit by taking it off the hinges it sits on (I pull my door straight up and it slides off the hinges) and use the backyard hose on it :-) I read somewhere here to use an old tube sock on a bent wire hanger and through the bottom of the oven door you can clean the glass - it is a pain but it does work to some degree. At least it will be somewhat cleaner anyway. Good luck! Messy job :-(

Hi guys! I am shopping for new bathroom towels and kitchen washcloths and I came across these thread from 8 years ago. I can be of help. Long story short, bathroom towels and anything for the bathroom has the ever present band of decorative pattern that runs across the cloth towards each or one end of the towel/washcloth. Those used for the kitchen (or shop/work towels) does not have that band of decorative pattern. It's just a plain, flat canvas of woven terry and double sewn on the four ends of the cloth. They can also be found in the Kitchen section area were as the bathroom towels and such are displayed in the bathroom section. The garden and tools section also sells a different kind of washcloths different from the bath and kitchen. I just figured these out lately too. Hope it helps! ♥

Slightly OT...How to use an oven as a warming drawer

As we all know from leaving food uncovered in the fridge, air dries things out. So does heat. Some humidity may help but it depends on what you're trying to keep warm. If it's crisp bread, you don't want the water. To some degree, covering food loosely in a warm oven -- 115 to 125 degrees is a good range -- will help keep it moist. How long will food keep warm? Again, that depends on the which foods. I routinely keep a sweet potato casserole covered and warm in the oven for 1 hour. Turkey is another matter. I usually leave that out, covered with foil and towels since the heat from the bones will keep it hot for quite a long time. If it is sliced and on a platter, however, I put some pan juices over it and would cover it with foil. It should stay easily for 45 mins that way. I don't feel the pan of water is as useful as foil in the oven. The shiny side reflects heat somewhat and the covering helps it to hold moisture in. Foods with high concentration of starch, sugar and fat will stay warm longer than lean foods. Think about a potato casserole in a low oven for an hour vs broccoli or asparagus (I reheat most plain vegetables in the microwave myself). There aren't rules to this because it depends so much on what you're trying to keep warm. But as a rule of thumb, nothing actually cooks below about 150-160 degrees -- which is the temperature at which an egg yolk begins to solidify.

I have a couple of the turban style Aquis towels, that have a button to keep them secure. My hair is past my shoulders and thick. I keep it in the towel while I do my makeup and it helps decrease my time with the hair dryer.

OMG! I read your title and thought, do I dare admit to what I use? When I read your post, I had to laugh cause I have the exact same thing for the exact same reason!!! I actually have 2 towels that have to be at least 20+ years old. They're so ratty, tattered and UGLY I'm embarrassed to let anyone see them. My DH once mentioned that they were ready for the trash but no way! I have one of those Aquis towels, and use it for travel or when both the other towels are dirty, but it's not the same. When our bathroom is done, I'll still use my towels and hang them on hooks my DH purposely installed in our closet. We put a slatted door on our closet so it's ventilated. I now hang them out of the way where no one has to see them.

I have the Aquis too and love how well it dries my thick long hair. Note: Never bleach them! When mine accidentally got into a bleach load, I learned the hard way that the soft white fabric turns gray and hard.

I've always thrown mine in with the whites/bleach load, but hang them up to dry. Do they remain soft and white if you forgo the bleach wash?

I have an Aquis, too. Mine is the waffle weave style. It has a small amount of stretch so it wraps around securely and tucks under without ever coming loose. I never put it in the dryer and never use fabric softener.

I'll chime in here with my support for the Aquis hair towels. They really seem to absorb a great deal of moisture from my hair and then to dry out quickly. Small enough to take on trips. I've had mine for several years and it still works great. Like others have said, it really cuts down on the time needed with the hair dryer. The longer size will work best if you want to wrap it around, turban style.

LOL - I love this post. I have the exact same issue. My hair towels are 28 years old! I know because I have two left from a wedding gift set. My bathroom is about 1-2 weeks from being done and just yesterday I looked at that ratty old towel and thought - "What am I going to do?" So now I know - Aquis or hide it.
