I HATE my house ...............today.

Ok....My mom dusts MAYBE once a month or so, I'm always on her about it. When I go over there, I can see a light coating of dust, sometimes I bring a white glove just to tease her. (when I was a kid, I couldn't go out to play on Saturdays until we scrubbed entire house top to bottom..she was a total clean freak!!!!!!) Now, I'm not what I would consider a neat freak, but I do like my house tidy and clean (and least the parts company can see!) What I don't understand is how my house absolutely BREEDS dust. Forget about dust bunnies, I have dust monsters. Big clumping, nasty, brown, fuzzy dust monsters. Yeah, some of it might be caused by the 2 six month old fuzzy canine monsters (borders) that I own, but geeze...I had a horrible dust problem even before the pups. I could dust daily and still have a dust problem. As it is, I do a major dusting at least once a week, and it's so gross I usually feel like gagging. How on earth are we so dusty??? I change my filters on my furnace, I run a massive air purifier, my windows haven't been open in weeks.

I hate my house today, it grosses me out.

I have noticed when we go on vacation there is very little dust in our house when we get back. I think most dust is from human skin and from the doors being opened and closed.

It helps to have light colored wood furniture and not too light and not too dark tile.

When I was a teenager, my mother thought chipmunks were cute. My Aunt next door cut down on the amount of cats & Mom was feeding them (the tree rats). The next thing we knew, there were chipmunks EVERYWHERE. Dozens of them, digging up all the bulbs & everything we planted. Emptying all the bird feeders. Running & playing & most of all multiplying. My Uncles were poisoning, trapping & shooting them until they finally got down to a manageable number. In later years, I had a Sheltie who thought it was her job to be on chipmunk patrol & she took it very seriously & kept them away. My Newf isn't that excited over such a small mouthfull but we have an Eskie who likes organic dog toys (mice & such are organic cat toys). Linda

I am canceling my service with Comcast. I have the $4.99 charge to cover me in case I need to have a service call. Well in April I did have a service call as one of my two phone lines was not working. The technician who came out broke my phone and did not tell me that he broke it. I found that out much later -- it should have been a hint when he did not want me to hold the phone. Then he or Comcast put a $70.00 charge on my account. When I called Comcast, I told them about this, they admitted that it should not have been there and they told me that they would credit my account on the next bill, but that I was expected to pay it and they would issue a credit. I need to check the statutes but I don't think you can collect on disputed charges, especially when you are aware that YOU made the mistake. For the $70.00 that should not have been billed, they interrupted the service. I refuse to pay it and have notified my local jurisdiction and the FCC. If you are looking for a cable or internet or phone provider, don't walk past Comcast, run as fast and as far as you can.

You must have made some great choices! For a moment, I was worried that you walked into your old house and saw complete horror. It sounds like you had a positive experience. My little confession, I check on our last house through realtor. It has not been listed, but plenty of others on adjoining streets have. It feels great to know that we sold during a decent time. A major road to be constructed, announced right after we sold, killed the values there. At the same time I feel horrible to know that so many people I used to know are now stuck because of home prices.

SO HAPPY WITH MY NEW BACKSPLASH!!!!!! jiggreen, I see that you change your furnace filters (this should be done monthly), but you also need to have your ducts cleaned at least annually. If you don't, any dust that accumulates will just blow around your house every time the furnace activates.

Also, do you have a lot of carpet? You would be amazed at how much dirt & dust can be trapped there. You might try renting a quality steam cleaner and see if that also helps.

Not sure of the age of your house, but make sure all caulking along windows, doorways etc are properly sealed.
