I could write an epistle about the GE Monogram ovens. The upshot is
we, and many people who know our experience with the ovens as well as
the company, will NEVER buy another GE product again. Not even a light
bulb. Problems with oven performance existed the first time the ovens
were used and persist 2 1/2 years later. The temperatures are wildly
inaccurate and unstable, the heat distribution is extremely uneven,
the ovens preheat temp is below the set temp-then the temp drops as
much as 50F. Achieving the initial temp requires preheating to 25-50F
above the desired temp. Then I have to turn the temp down and
immediately up every 2-4 minutes while baking to keep a steady temp.
Otherwise the ovens cool off as much as 75F during the baking cycle,
and they never reach the set baking temperature. If I wait too long the preheat cycle starts and the bread browns on top too much and is undercooked on the bottom.

For example, yesterday I baked HB buns onto racks. The oven was set to 375F. Preheat complete, according to the ovens, the back of the top rack was 425F, the front of the bottom rack was 340F. Compare that to my Breville countertop convection oven. Set the temp, preheat, put in the bread, walk away, when the timer goes off it is beautifully browned and done.

GE has been out twice for service. Each time it was determined there
was nothing wrong with the ovens. The first service was within the
first month of install. The second was within three months of install.
The second service visit I was advised not to call for service again because
there is nothing wrong with the ovens.

Month before the warranty expired, I again tried to get properly working ovens. Another GW member, RHome410, had the same difficulty with her GE Monogram ovens. GE bought back her ovens. At the same time GE would not acknowledge there was anything was any wrong with mine. Mind you, we were communicating with the same person at the same time in the same e-mail. While RHome's ovens were bought back by GE, my complaints were sent to the GE general manager who called me personally and said GE would do nothing because my ovens were operating within specifications.

I don't know where you live, but I will sell you my ovens at a bargain price! Seriously, though, ethically I can't sell these ovens to anyone. I am saving up for Wolf ovens. Wolf has stellar customer service, and stands behind their products. The seller, Clarks Appliances in Indianapolis did not even
do that for me.

Yes, I am a disgruntled GE Monogram double ovens owner. There are many
here who have had the same experience. Search this forum and many such
experiences with the ovens and service will come up.

Obviously, my advice is to keep looking. The bargain price, mine were
half price on clearance, is not a good deal.

Thanks Cotehele, for your lengthy follow up. I guess you answered my question. I would so love to know how anyone got GE to buy their product back. I am in shock that we spent so much for this appliance and such poor performance and that is stating it mildly. Our additional problem is that the specs for the newer ovens are dramatically different and won't fit into the custom cabinets that we have. We are so stuck!!! They offered us 2 new ovens for $1800. That is hardly a deal to me! when the custom cabinets would have to be ripped out and the appliance would still not be great. We went with GE because our "spec" home of 15 years had a standard GE and it was fine. Think I am just stuck. rdms

I had the exact problems as Cotehele, as she explained. Between our conversations and my conversations with GE engineering, through a customer service person, I determined it was their engineering that was the problem...Because the ovens seemed to be working as designed, but it was a rotten design. The way the preheat mode comes on in the midst of baking if you need to adjust the temp (because the oven isn't able to maintain it) is horrible. I had photos of pizzas that were white on one side and brown on the other, as if someone had drawn a line down the center, or covered one half with foil. It was crazy. Temps were off from side to side and rack to rack...Sometimes as much as 100 degrees.

I used email conversations with Cotehele to support my case. WHY I got my ovens bought back and she didn't is beyond my comprehension. The service people who were contracted by GE, and typically do GE work, to come get the oven were shocked that I was able to get them to give me $$ back, since GE 'never' does that.

A member here knew a GE sales rep and showed him the pizza pictures I'd posted here, so that got the ball rolling initially. Then GE customer service contacted me, and I sent them photos and documentation of temperature records. I also got my retailer involved. I don't know how much it helped, since it was about 2/3 of the way into the process, but any pressure helps, I'd think.

I, too, had a GE Profile range that worked great for us for several years, and as far as I know, is still doing a fine job for the people who bought our house. That gave me confidence in buying GE. Right after I'd purchased the oven, my trusted appliance repairman told me that GE and LG were the toughest companies he had to deal with. Like Cotehele, that is the last GE product we'll have.

I was never so happy to be rid of something, it got so aggravating. Best wishes.
