I SURE wish you were here!!!!!

There is an estate sale going on near my house that has the most beautiful dishes!!! AND antique furnishings of ALL SORTS.....even an antique thread cabinet....The prices are pretty reasonable too!!!

I have been looking for white ironstone dishes to add to my collection and to use with my red and white transferware.

I got a set of Adams "Empress" for $40. Most pieces are in perfect condition...just a little wear on the centers of the plates, which is totally acceptable!

They had an entire house and two car garage FULL of things that you would have liked!!

I also got a small silver butter knife that is curved (not with a dogleg bend), to use in the rack of my round silver butter server. I didn't think I would EVER find one that was the right shape (I got the butter dish about 35 years ago), but there it was just waiting for me! I scooped it up and took it home to polish it up...it is lovely with pretty flowers at the end of the handle!

I would love to be there. I'm in the market for a china cabinet or 2 or 3!
Alfred came up with this neat idea for some fun, but I need a set of black and white dishes to do it.
I can think of all kinds of things to look for at an estate sale. And if we can't find everything at the estate sale we can just go shopping!
And how fun it is to find something you've wanted at such a great price. And to find that butter knife after 35 YEARS!
WHHOO-HOOOO!!!!!
Now hurry and purchase that camera so we can see all of these great things.

Oh jaybird..my kind of gal!! Lucky You. Sounds like you hit a good one. Love - Love - Love estate sales...especially when it's the 'Whole House'..even better.. Wow.. I'm itching now to go to one...lol Good for you finding that butter knife..it was waiting for you darlin - and now you gave it a new home !! Enjoy

Thanks for all the good wishes, folks, and I really do wish you could come. I thought about putting in a postscript that I don't take pictures: as Ingrid remembered, the camera and I are not good friends. The season of once-bloomers, the time of year, are just enchanting: the maturity, the pinnacle of the gardening year. (August is nadir.) Nik, as it happens I'm a decent cook, though I don't do meat. Care to pay a visit? You might find the garden interesting, in itself and compared to your own growing conditions. We'll probably have things in bloom until the end of May, then the garden will shut down until it starts to rain again in fall. Good morning Nell, One reason I always love your posts and missed them when you were away, is that you know how to express your gardens and life around you gently and beautifully. That wisteria is something else, and something I would love to grow here. I have a baby Queen's Wreath vine that a FL gardening forum friend just gave me which is called a Tropical Wisteria. She also gave me a cutting of another vine that I hope takes root, St. Vincent's vine. How wonderful for all of you to see and experience the new beginnings of your gardens each spring. That will be the easy part, Jaybird. In fact, my friend Anjabee on the painting forum did a step by step tutorial for us. We're hoping no one will post to it so we can keep it right at the top of the page for all the newbies to find easily. I almost hate to admit this.....
I went back to the sale on Saturday afternoon when it was half price (hanging head)....
I got a few more pieces of ironstone, and an adorable childs' ABC plate in blue and white (made by Spode), for my DDIL's B&W collection.
I promise that I didn't buy any other dishes.....

Sorry, Jaybird, but the "outta space" excuse just doesn't cut it with GJers. You need to come up with a better one than that.

Kathleen is right, Santa has NO choice but to go camera shopping. The Mighty Junk Gang has spoken. LOL.

Jaybird, I would have loved to go to the Estate sale with you, sounds like a wonderful day of browsing! And the white dishes you got look like they will be very versatile, going with any other colour and looking great. And I'm glad to hear, I'm not the only one who goes back more than once to sales! Too bad, you didn't find a dig camera for sale there!

Karen - love your depiction of a "senior blonde moment" LOL! I am sure us dishnuts are much the same as the GJers.
