Hello, all.

At the bottom is a link to my finished bathroom pictures.

Here are the details:

Tile - Sirio Edilgres Royal Calacatta Grey

Grout and Caulk - TEC Accucolor Mist

Paint - BM Paper White on walls/ceiling and BM Decorators White on trim

Built-in Accessories (including sink faucet) - Gatco Latitude II

Sink - Fairmont Designs TC-2522W8

Vanity - Bertch Osage

Toilet and Flushometer - Toto CT705E-01 toilet (cotton white), TMT1NNC-32 flushometer and SS114-01 soft close toilet seat

Tub Fixtures - Grohe Relexa and Rustic Rainshower trim, Grohe 3000 volume and temperature rough-ins, universal 5" tub spout

Shower Curtain and Soap/Shampoo/Tissue/Q-tip Holders - BB&B

Medicine cabinet - Robern PLM2030W

Trash can - Oxo rectangular step can

Curtain rod - Kingston Brass CC3141 with Gatco 833 wall flanges

Door saddle and shower shelves - Milas marble

The bathtub was reglazed. I have to caulk it one more time as there is some overspray on the grout surrounding the tub. The contractor rebuilt the window and door frame; the window panes will be replaced in 2013. In the last picture you can see the shelf I built and attached to the bottom of the cabinet as the bottom mounting bracket is exposed when the cabinet is surface mounted. (I added the mirrored side kit but you can't see it in these pictures.) I cut one of the shower curtains in half lengthwise then crosswise, and used the remaining shower curtain rings to create the window curtains. This also keeps mold from forming in the folds of the shower curtain on the short side of the tub. Lastly, I added an escutcheon and painted the handle for the water valve next to the toilet.

Thanks for all the positive words. It means so much to me. thuesen - Our Kohler Archer tub is 5 feet long. When we looked at the tub just out of the box in our basement we were afraid it was too narrow for showering but it turned out to be fine. It is a great soaking tub too. It does have the toe tap drain which was new to us and has taken some getting used to. The only DIY we did was choose and pick up all the products, wall prep, ceiling painting, and some demo. We hired a contractor to do most of the demo, all of the sheet rock, tile, vanity installation and electrical work. We hired a plumber for sink, tub, toilet installation and a wallpaper guy to hang the wallpaper. We did the shelves, mirror, towel racks, pictures, and other accessories. Given that we live in New England where everything is expensive and that we chose rectified porcelain Italian floor and wall tiles, and Toto toilet, we ended up spending almost $11K but that includes absolutely everything down to the new cup and toothbrush holder. Labor costs were $3500 for the contractor (our neighbor who does wonderful work), $1400 for plumbing, and $350 for the wallpaper labor. I was hesitant to throw out those numbers but I will be interested to get some feedback given that I am starting on the downstairs bathroom (also small) as we speak.

I just realized that I didn't post the grout color. I used Latricrete Silver Shadow. What a job it was to find it! While Lowes carries the sanded, they don't carry unsanded and wouldn't order it for me. No one in my small city (Charlottesville, VA) had it. I wound up driving to Richmond, VA (an hour, not a huge deal) for the grout. The place I went to was a huge place, mostly frequented by contractors. The guys convinced me that I only needed one container of the unsanded for my basketweave floors. I did the whole "are you sure?" thing about three times before I left. The next day, my tile guy called me at work to say that there wasn't enough unsanded grout. This was all happening at the busiest time of my work year, so my awesome boyfriend wound up driving over to Richmond the next morning at 7 AM to pick up another container of the grout. I love the silver shadow and am so glad I didn't settle for Delorian Grey, which was readily available. Don't settle out of fatigue!

Thanks for all the compliments :) Flyleft: by far the biggest challenge in my letting go of perfectionism was my worry that without striving for perfection I was going to stop improving and doing a good job :) I have had to work really really hard, but I am much improved. Excellence is attainable and can be fun to achieve. Perfection is always elusive and aiming for it wasn't making me very happy. I had so much fun doing this bathroom with my new outlook...and it may be my best project yet. I think the old me used to get so traumatized and upset when something wasn't perfect that I couldn't think straight (much less creatively), take suggestions or compromise. This time I tried to see every hiccup as a fun challenge. To answer your question: the cabinet is 10" deep including the doors and 11" deep including the bottom light rail. bluekitchenobsessed: my husband loves modern design and wanted the mosaic tiles. I was really frustrated and upset by this. He was giving me free reign to do what I wanted for as much as I thought it was reasonable to spend and he had just one or two requests. I really wanted a soothing, elegant, traditional bathroom. I didn't see how mosaic tile fit into that at all. After one heated argument I decided that a bathroom remodel was NOT going to have a negative impact on my family! So, I pretended I was a designer and I had to incorporate my clients disparate wishes into a bathroom design. Now I love my finished bathroom and I am very embarrassed that I was so narrow-minded. Becoming more flexible is right up there with not being a perfectionist on my list of goals :) ysop: the rain head is awesome and delivers almost too much water pressure. Go figure!

no there are 2 different projects. the kitchen is in NY and has a different bathroom, if you click on the picture will bring you to picasa album and you will see more. This project is in Chicago but they did 2 bathroom and again you will see if you click and look more on picasa. ciao

Wow, I googled the 'sirio edilgres'--that's porcelain?! VERY beautiful! Simple and clean and perfectly designed. Good work!

Your bathroom is so lovely. It has a very peaceful quality. Is that the original position of the faucet in the bathtub?

Great looking bathroom. I really like the sink and what I can see of the vanity. The toilet is very cool as well. Is there any issue with access when it needs to be fixed?

I just realized why I was especially struck when I opened up your pics: so *that* is the bathroom of a bikerchick? Not immediately what one would imagine :)

Flyleft, Wolfgang80 and Dedtired -

(1) My bathroom was original to 1926 so the faucets were on the same wall with the hot and cold handles across from one another and a diverter in the middle. The tub spout is in the same location and I had a shower arm at the top at about the level where the tile is now. As I gutted my bathroom, I was able to decide where I wanted the new volume and temperature controls. I decided I didn't need a separate fixed shower arm, and by using separate volume controls I didn't need a diverter (less expensive than installing a diverter).
(2) Re my toilet, there aren't any issues with access, unless a pipe breaks behind the wall. My last flushometer worked for about 80 years (except for an occasional servicing by my super)so hopefully this one will last for awhile.
(3) mltifctdbikrchc - I like that, although I have enough trouble with bikrchc. You wouldn't know I have a motorcycle by looking at me (plus I worked for an accounting firm for almost 20 years)

Of course, the rest of my apartment is an absolute mess now.

OK, I'm going to ask about the one thing I didn't see on your list--what are your light fixtures above the sink? I've been looking for something that shape. Thanks.

The light fixture is from Gatco as well. They have either a triple sconce (which is what I have) or single light sconce fixture. The light fixture matches the sink faucet and all of the attached hardware outside of the tub.

I am delighted that all of you like how my bathroom turned out. It aged me considerably but will make future projects easier to handle.

Oops, never mind, I was able to find the Mist color online and it looks like a medium greenish-gray.I have noticed with grouted tile samples in stores that the grayish grouts seem to really recede (rather than making a noticeable grid pattern that darker or lighter grouts can). Very interesting since I am still in the process of choosing tile and grout colors!
