I have a Eureka enviro steam mop that is about 10 years old. I really like it and it has certainly held up a long time. I only use it on my wood floors. I still do my tile floors on my hands and knees because the grout stays cleaner that way. Mopping tile floors pushes all the dirt into the gout I've also used my DIL's Bissell which you have to push a button to get the steam. I tended to get the floors too wet when I used the bissel so I prefer Eureka envirosteamer There is a review on Amazon under the Enviro steamer in which the reviewer has tested many of the mops. She actually tested water temperature and sharks is not hot enough to sanitize. The winner in her test was the Eureka envirosteamer . She said it was the sturdiest, had really hot water, the largest water tank and the longest cord . It is really interesting to read her review. FWIW, I've had the Oreck version for about 7 years. Lots of use. Costs more than the others but is very convenient, does a good job, and doesn't break. Yeah, the "steam" thing is kind of a joke. Apparently helps sell washers and dryers, now, too.

No it doesn't leave streaks and the floor is nearly dry when I'm done. Mine only steams, it doesn't squirt any cleaning products. And while it does a good job on the surface of the tiles, I have to point out that steamers really don't do much for the grout itself. It doesn't leak if you lift the head up. I used the steamer to clean some soap residue in our shower.

So is lacquer better or worse than polyurethane? I know the guy used lacquer on my cabinets. When we had to refinish one of the old bathroom cabinets he told us what he used. Benjamin Moore said only 2 states carry it, Oklahoma and Texas. That tells me it should NOT be used. It is banned in other states. It sounds like I am ready to sand? I can quit trying to get the glossy parts off where the cracks are. (Where the 2 planks meet.) They will just sand off? I moved the TV cabinet away from the wall. That wall used to have a built in entertainment center with doors and drawers, but my TV was wider, so we removed the entertainment center. We found the original flooring had not been lacquered or polyurethane where the old cabinets had been. We can see that the wood turned more yellow and darker in the rest of the room. The room is huge and includes the kitchen. 42' x 28' plus 12' x 4' hallway. I am sanding around the perimeter first except for the hall and kitchen area. Then I will move the aquarium, couches, and TV cabinet back in place against the walls. They are all sitting on soft sliders so they will not scratch the floor. Then I can sand the rest of the floor. I have no place to move the furniture so it will have to be done in sections. Once the sanding is finished and the floor is clean, I don't know if I can finish the floor in sections. Can that be done? Thanks.
