And I love your decorating. I am nuts over holiday decor photos, any time of the year and any holiday. You big Christmas tree is gorgeous! But the others are wonderful too. I'm glad you joined us.

Keep those pictures coming! Do you know about our Inspiration albums? There's over a 1000 photos of all the Holidays in there. Most pictures from the gang here the last few years, but also any other pictures I snag from the web to "inspire" us. Our Christmas album is so big that I did sub-albums to make it easier to find things.

Thanks, Karen, for the link! There are so many great trees! I love looking for fun and new ideas. I help my family decorate their trees and I like to do something different every year, so it is fun to see all of these great pics. Last year I decorated 7 full sized Christmas trees. Can't wait for this year!

Of course those that know me will understand one of my trees. I have a Disney tree with lots of timkerbells, characters and other unique Disney ornaments. I also have a tree that has the ornaments of my childhood and vintage ornaments from my grandmother. Ir is my memory tree. I add special ornaments to it to remind me of things Lee and I have done and I add ornaments that remind me of my parents and our old time Christmas. I try to hand ornaments on all my potted plants and I am beginning to theme them in Disney stuff and also in the ornaments from the various countries at Epcot. I also have a Christmas tree outside for the birds with special apples with peanut butter, etc. I am not feeling too well this Christmas and with the worry about Kurt I am finding it difficult to get into the spirit, but I am making an effort for my husband and Smokey. We do have a kitty tree. I collect angels and have an angel tree and adore glass ornaments and collect lots of them for a glass tree. I am going to attempt to take some pictures as I need them for my portfolio and also to share with you guys. I can take anybody into Disney for several weekends prior to Christmas week if you wish to visit the Biosphere and see the lights at MGM etc. Linda

I haven't read the replies yet, but will after I post my thoughts. You all know I don't decorate for Fall, including Thanksgiving. It's because I find those colors to be extremely ugly and boring ONLY inside the house. Outside they're stunning! We love Thanksgiving, but TG is the official first day of the holiday season in my family. I used to wait until Dec. 15th to put up my tree, now it's sometimes after TG. Everything turns brown right now and is so dull, why carry it into the house? Right now I've put up my winter tablecloths. They will match with Christmas decorating but can also hold their own as a winter decor. It's a sneaky way to begin. lol. Christmas is the long holiday, if we're lucky, the joy of Christmas stays with us until New Years. SO MUCH THOUGHT goes into decorating, if I waited until December to decide what I want to do this year I'd be frazzled half the month and not enjoy myself. This year's decorating won't be as over the top as last year, but I still want it cheerful and elegant at the same time. I already have my Christmas Card station set up! I wish others than myself sent out old-fashioned cards instead of just pictures, but that's another topic! lol

I think that's so beautiful you want to make these memories for your child! Knowing my own decorating and reading the above responses I see a common thread of choosing which holidays and how to decorate coming about organically. Like your child will be making decorations in preschool, and now that you've decided you want to do this your eye will start noticing others' (inc. shops') decorations and what appeals to you. This forum has also really helped me with SUPER ideas about decorating. Like a few years ago kswl had that incredible slideshow of her home at xmas and I fell so hard head over heels ... it totally inspired my nutcrackers (for xmas). And another generous participant posted her beautiful gumdrop tree (again for xmas) which got me going in that candy direction, and I'll tell you I RAN with it! I don't even like (to eat) candy yet I've found it the most magical, perfect way of decorating the trees. Thank you GW! So we're multiethnic (I'm 1/2 Jewish, 1/2 WASP and my partner is 100% Shinto Buddhist Japanese) and we have fun with it. I love love love our Hanukkah waterglobe collection and growing collection of dreidels. I love all the koinobori (carp windsocks) we have for Children's Day (May 5th). I find that for many holidays my decorating effort extends to color-appropriate candies in the living room -- like red & silver kisses for Valentine's, pastel pastilles for Easter. I am NOT a jingoist but I do love red white & blue bunting on the 4th ... on other people's houses. I'm not that motivated, I guess, although this year we did line our front walk with stars and stripes pinwheels. That was fun and made me really part of our sweet little town's festivities. We have Japanese lanterns up in the backyard so they're already handy for Obondori (another Japanese celebration honoring your ancestors), and then because I am a wannabe Mexican I have tons of fun with Halloween and my calaveras / catrinas. My 6 y.o. is *delighted* with the enormous fuzzy tarantula we affix to the outside of his window each year -- the kids love it. This year I went bananas at Target and purchased a string of jack o lantern lights and put them in a tree, and then a cobweb made of orange lights which we plastered on the living room window. I'm not sure who loved all this new stuff more: my 6 y.o. or me. (me)

Are you a long lost relative I don't know about, Sue? LOL I'm a crazy, Christmas decorating 'junkie' too. I won't be home for Thanksgiving(NC), but will start with the decorating just as soon as I return. My big 10' tree will be in the LR, with a small 5' in the sitting room off the kitchen, a 5' on a landing going upstairs, 5' in the DR, 3' on DR table, 3' in powder room vanity, and a 2' in each BR~have I left out any?LOL The big one in the LR is decorated with *pink* lights, and ornaments that *must* have pink on them, pink balls, irridesent icicles/snowflakes, and I made at least a hundred beaded tastles out of pearl/irridesent madigras beads. I also started collecting ballerina ornaments a few years ago~I had lessons in 'pointe' for many years, and still hang my shoes on the tree. I've been doing the pink for at least 30 years, and my grandchildren, even the oldest ones, are always excited to see 'Grandma's big, pretty tree'. The one in the sitting room became my tribute to Katrina, decorated in madigras beads of lime green, purple, and turquoise. It has a madigras mask as a treetopper with peacock feathers. Ornaments are in the same colors, but NO solid color is used. They're differed designs~stripe, dots, zig-zags~and shapes. Being my powder room is a deep red, I use leopard print ornaments on the little tree. It's a 'small room with a lot of interest', so I need an interesting tree. LOL The one up on the landing is all sparkly in golds, white, and seashells. Dr table gets deep red ornaments. Bigger one in DR corner is bronze/gold. MB is irridesent white, but i'm looking for sparkly black ornaments. 2nd BR is monkey/tropical ornaments. I use the electric candles in all the windows, wreaths on the ouside front door, as well as the inside. Mantle, mirrors, chandliers, tables, armoire, hutch, desks, are also 'adorned' in Christmas finery. My legacy to my children is to continue the tradition of Christmas being all about family, and part of that is a beautiful decorated 'Christmas home' that feels cozy, and the smell of good food coming from the kitchen. ALL my children 'show signs' that's it working! ;o)

Oh, I am lovin' those two big pine-looking trees on the little side table ...with the snow & the lit-up house...love the clear lights & silver (?) balls on the trees...so pretty! Are those ski poles leaning beside the table? Love that table!

Lots of pretty decorated trees! & your Halloween setting looks great, too! Summer is still here in Iowa ... 90's today & high humidity...so your pics made me think of the Winter mos. that will be here soon enough! LOL!

You have certainly found the right place. We all love Christmas, as well as Thanksgiving, Halloween, New Years, Valentines , Memorial Day, The 4th of July.... and on and on + any other occasion we can dream up. Your trees are lovely, I esp liked the "Pepermint Candy Striped Tree. Your Halloween vignette is really neet, too/ We are glad you decided to join us Janet

The small trees on the side table are decorated with silver, clear, and pale green ornaments. Yes, those are ski poles : ) My grandma found them for me last fall.

It is fun to hear from people that are just as excited about the holidays as I am!

This Forum really gets going in the Fall, right now just a few of us "die hards" keep posting and making our own fun when no holidays. LOL. A lot of the gals here do beautiful table setting decor, and post photos to keep us from going into withdrawal. And when we find some holiday stuff shopping (Goodwill, thrift stores, yard sales, or ANY store) then MORE photos to share. I was never into dishes but the Enablers here had me out buying a few things and trying my hand at small table settings. I'll try anything for my "invisible friends", LOL. In fact they are the ones who got me decorating for all the holidays. I'd only done Christmas and a little Thanksgiving stuff before. Since you do the trees for your family, and so many in your own home, you belong with us. ;o) Wait till you see what our gal, Christmascandy,
does. She lives up to her name! Many of us love over the top decorating. Seeing pictures and sharing ideas is what brought us together, but we're more like a family. So many caring, generous, sweet people on this Forum.

If you feel like it, tell us a bit about yourself. Its nice meeting new decorating friends and getting to know them.

Wow SD, this was fun to see tonight. Beautiful trees and decorations for Christmas. Sure hope you will continue to post picture and share stories with all of us.

Your Halloween decors are so neat too. Looks like you really get into decorating for the different seasons. U will fit right in here with all of us.

We love decorating for the holidays.
Some of us have been known to make some up, or at least find some obscure ones. It was wonderful looking at your beautiful trees. The candy cane one caught my eye, but they are all beautiful.
Your Halloween decor is spooktacular too.

Here is a little bit about myself:

My grandma would always decorate for the Holidays and she would always let me help her. Now today I love decorating for the Holidays and She and I still decorate for all the Seasons together.

I love to paint and draw, though when school starts up again I usually am to busy because I have homework to do and lots of Holidays to decorate for. I am going to school for Interior Design.

I also love gardening and landscaping. My brother and I have a garden at our grandma's house where we put in tons of flowers and this year pumpkins. I am hoping those turn out so we have more to decorate with in the fall.

One reason I get so excited for Halloween is my annual Halloween party. I usually do extra decorating and make a creepy table setting and put up spider web everywhere. This year will be my 4th Halloween Party. And of course, everyone dresses up in costume.

I am also excited for Christmas this year because I just moved, and I now have a new place to decorate. It will be challenging, but fun i think. I have already decided where I want to put the tree, or trees : )

It is fun to hear from you all!

Wow SD, you "done good". Every one of you pics are beautiful.. I want a WHITE tree. POUT POUT...Some people pay big money to get their trees decorated. You may get a job.

About now, in the heat warning, those icicles look very comforting. They are so pretty and sparkle.

Nothing better than a fire and a Christmas tree with bright lights. OH, my, you make me want to go get started pulling out Christmas. LOL

Welcome to the board, I'm not a long time member, but I can tell you, you came to the right place. These folks know how to decorate and to enable others!!!!
