Hi again (posted on your other thread, too!).

We completed a reno on our guest 1/2-bathroom, and added a shower stall. That bathroom is long, but very, very narrow. We had a frameless shower door installed on the new shower, and it was tricky space-wise (the toilet next to the shower is a Toto Soiree, w/ enlongated bowl), but worked out perfectly.

Your bathroom looks a lot like our--we will have the 24 inch vanity first on the right as you walk in the door, then the toilet, then the shower.

Another question about your shower--it looks like the glass doors completely seal off the shower stall. Our contractor-friend recommended having 12 inches of space open between the top of the glass and the ceiling. Do have a vent in the shower stall itself?

Right now, our bathroom is not vented at all, but we will definitely be having a vent installed during the remodel.

We have by pass doors because of space limitations and I don't think they're dated or tacky.

Glass is clear, 3/8" thick Starphire (Starfire) glass (low-iron glass, so no green tint, totally clear). We had the Clear Shiled coating applied to repel hard water build-up.

The stall is open at the top, but we did opt to get the 76" height rather than the 72". We did so because the hinge would've been anchored in our border tile had we gone with the 72". As an added bonus, DH felt that the higher glass might contain water spray better.

We have a Panasonic Whisper-Quiet vent fan just outside the shower (in the ceiling, in front of the toilet). It works extremely well--the mirror is always clear, no fog/steam at all when I get out of the shower (we're using this bathroom while the others are being reno'd).

This bathroom is much longer than the other two, so we used a 31.5" wide vanity (it's only 18 or 18.5" deep, which is all the width of the room would allow). Thank goodness because we use the drawers to store towels and bath mat for that bathroom--we lost the closet when we took over the space to put in a shower.

That's Shield, not Shiled--I can spell, just horrible with typos and not too good about proofreading (as you can clearly tell!). LOL

Just my opinion, but I would only consider a glass door that opens. I don't like sliders. I don't like that they are harder to clean, and I seriously dislike the track running the length of the tub. I would pull one out if I bought a home with one. I personally like curtains. I've never had leakage issues and enjoy the open feel. If you're doing a spectacular tile job and you want to see it, though, I suppose glass is the way to go. Again, that's just me. You should go with what pleases you ascetically.

Oops, I need to read better! I just realized that you're building a walk in shower, not a tub. That eliminates the big reason I dislike sliders - the tub track. I don't know if I've seen a shower with a sliding door. I'd be interested in seeing an example.

If an operable door isn't in your plans, then for a walk-in I'd rather see a top-hung slider rather than one with a bottom track. I'd take the shower curtain over a slider with a bottom track. Wilson Glass photo below.

As to curb height, code requires it to be a minimum of 2" above the drain and a maximum of 9" above the drain.

techiestar, the shower will be tub-sized so a regular bath sliding door will fit.We currently have a 1970 avocado-green tiled shower that is 51 inches long by 57 inches wide with a 14 inch threshold and a ceiling height of 7 1/2 feet.The current shower has a sliding door, and the bathroom has a toilet but the vanity (an enormous, ugly faux wood laminate thing that we had painted white)is currently physically in the master bedroom.

Our plan is to tear out the ugly vanity that is in the master bedroom and to fit a small vanity, toilet, and shower into the bathroom.

Mongoct, thanks for the great photo. I do like that shower door. We have tried to educate ourselves on contemporary bathrooms by visiting our local Parade of Homes etc., but our knowledge of shower enclosures is very limited. We are willing to pay the extra $$ to purchase an attractive shower enclosure.We are just concerned about the hard water in our city and the difficulty of keeping glass clean and clear.

Our current curb height (of our ugly avocado shower) is 14 inches.I was thinking it should be the height of 2 six inch tiles plus grout, but perhaps we should choose a height of 1 tile.

We have very hard water and a clear glass shower door. As long as you squeegee it after each shower, the glass stays clean.
