I like ammonia. 1. Soak burned pots in cheap sudsy ammonia overnight,the black stuff will come right off. 2. Mix one third ammonia with two thirds water in a spray bottle,use for cleaning glass and mirrors. Wipe off with crumpled tissue paper.You can use newsprint,but the ink comes off on your hands.

Vinegar for shining chrome.

Baking soda as mild abrasive cleanser.

Oxi-Clean for grout.

Using net bags (like oranges and onions come in) as dish scrubbies.

I use straight alcohol for windows, mirrors, and tv screens, and dry with rags cut from cotton sheets.

The alcohol dries so quickly, that there are never any streaks. In some cases I apply the cleaner with a soaked rag, if there is any danger of overspray or it running down and doing damage.

I love a perfectly clean window.

When I get out of the shower and the medicine chest mirror is steamy, I wipe it with a clean towel. I never need to wash the mirror.

Straight alcohol is also good for cleaning, shineing and disinfecting porcelain fixtures and ceramic tile in the bathroom. You can even add a little bit of lavender or cedar oil for scent.

I keep it in a fancy looking plastic spray bottle in the bathroom cabinet so it is handy for 'quick wipes'. Cuts down on major cleaning days.

Warning: DO NOT USE ALCOHOL ON ANYTHING PLASTIC like a plastic toilet seat. It will damage it buy taking off the shine and leaving a whitish film. I learned that one the hard way. TWICE. I ruined one of my phones by trying to clean and disinfect it with alcohol.

Newspaper to clean windows and only clean them when it's cloudy.

Putting on window film, their suggestion was to use paper coffee maker filters to clean the glass.
Clean with water with a few drops of liquid non-amonia lemon dishwashing soap for a surfectant mixed in a squirt bottle of distilled water. No lint, no static, no mineral deposits. Works super, on a clean window!

wd-40 for oily stains on clothing... then dishwashing soap to get out the wd-40

rinse like crazy and shove it in the washing machine... :)

I fill the bathroom sink with hot water and fill a fern watering can to rinse showers and tubs that don't have a hose type spray.

I like to use abt. 2 tablespoons of baking soda in my kitchen and bathroom drains than pouring some vinegar over it. it foams up great and keeps my drains from clogging up.

Mine aren't tips but product recommendations.

My best friend is Bar Keepers Friend. I use it to clean my high end cookware, it keeps it like new. With a lot of holiday cooking, my glass cook top had boil over stains that I couldn't get off with a razor. Today I thought that I would try Bar Keepers Friend instead of the Cerama Brite Ceramic Cook top Cleaner that I usually use. BKF worked so much better than the Cerama Brite-and BKF is so cheap.

The other miracle is Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Amoung other miracles, I was going to paint my laundry room but after using Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, no need to paint!

Wine Away. I have found this product difficult to find lately, but when I do find it, I try to stock up. It's the best thing I have found for getting red wine stains out of fabric. I have also used it successfully on blueberry stains on tablecloths. You spray it on, let it sit, and then blot with a clean, white towel. Then wash fabric as usual. Sometimes the stain turns black while the process is going on, but it washes out.

It is often the case when drinking wine we get some spills and then you are left with a red wine stain and you want to know what to do with that. There are a few options. There are commercial products in the market such as oxiclean that works very well or even some that are geared specifically towards wine stains. If you don't have access to those products there are a few other options as to how to remove a stain. The first stain white wine so you would take a little bit of white wine, pour it on to the stain especially when the stain is fresh tends to work really well. Then just kind of rub it in and it will come out. Another thing that you can do is to use just your basic table salt. Take a little bit put it on the stain, work it in. You are going to have to use quite a bit of salt to get this out and it will eventually start to come out as it is doing now. But the other thing I like to use that I find very effective is a combination of Dawn or any other liquid detergent. Pour into a container and with that you are going to mix hydrogen peroxide. Mix it up, got equal parts. Start to work it into the stain. The stain is rather large. Obviously this is not going to take it out all the way but once you put it into the wash it is going to make it easier to get out. You can see this one section where I have done and it is starting to fade. Anyway, you fill the line. These are just a few options for getting the stain out.

Basic house cleaning tips; first thing, take your container of cleaning supplies into every single room. This will avoid unnecessary trips from room to room- trying to run from one bathroom to another bathroom to the kitchen. That way you've got everything in one place.

Second is to carry a trash bag with you and leave it in the middle of the floor. That way every time you have a piece of trash you just have to throw it in the middle of the floor, put the trash in the bag, and you're done there.

The first thing you want to do when you walk into a room is start in the top corner of any room, dusting all the way done. That way you don't vacuum and have to vacuum again after the dust is all on the floor. You would want to make sure that you get your vents and your fans, and then everything on the walls, and of course on the furniture.

Be careful of alcohol on TV screens. DO NOT use it on a big screen TV. It will take off the anti-glare screen. Learned that the hard way. For a big screen TV just use a damp cloth. If you need soap use a tiny bit of handsoap.

That cleaning tips video was totally useless: don't bother watching it. Telling us to put our bathroom toiletries in a basket has nothing to do with cleaning!

I keep a cheap plastic paint scraper in my cleaning kit. The kind that uses a single edge razor blade. I use it on any smooth surface like stoves, windows, mirrors, tile showers, porcelain toilets and towel bars, kitchen backsplashes, counters,tile floors, etc. I use it to scrape things like soap scum, hard dirt,paint flecks, etc. If youre careful you can use it on any smooth surface. Sure beats scrubbing and it leaves a smooth shiny surface.

I especially like it for windows and mirrors. Bug bits and paint flecks come right off windows. Hairspray and dry toothpaste come right off mirrors. Sometimes just a quick dry scrape and wipe with dry microfibre cloth is all you need. If not use Windex etc and a dry terry washcloth then polish with a dry microfiber. I think the washcloth "scrubs" better than paper towels on filmy glass and mirrors.

My two biggest "cleaning hints" arent cleaners.LOL. Dont clean clean. And water and dirt make mud.

If you only have a few spots its not necessary to drown everything in cleaner. Spray a little on your rag and just wipe the spots. Sometimes I can just dry scrape with my paint scraper and wipe wth a dry microfiber cloth.

Always remove dry dirt before you add wet cleaner. Sometimes you can just dry dust with a dry microfiber cloth. But if you add liquid then you have a muddy mess to clean up. In any case. The more you put on the more you have to take off.

Some of these are household tips and not cleaning tips.

This isn't really a cleaning tip, but I spray my light bulbs with a squirt or two of perfume (when they are off). Once it dries and the light is turned on, a light scent of perfume will freshen up the room with a delightful smell.

If you have animals, never buy a filter vacume cleaner. I use bags only. Not practical for pet owners. Filter gets clogged too easily with pet hair.

Go Green. Never use Ajax or Lysol in your home. These products are very toxic. See EWG.org for environmentally safe home cleaning products. I like Simple Green myself.

"Mary Ellen's Book of Helpful Hints" is my all-time favorite. Everything from cleaning to beauty tips for a nominal price, and most are with products already found in your home. Found on Amazon.com and most book stores. My Mom used this book when I was little, and it's just as popular today.

Spraying windex on your baseboards and window sills in basements will keep centipedes away (kills them if they come in contact).

Resolve works great on carpet stains, and Oxy Clean works wonderfully on blood stains and clothing in general (soak in small bucket with Oxy clean overnight for maximum results). Don't heat dry stains - they're locked in forever and your only other alternative then is bleach, but that's bad for your clothing. Oxy Clean got the red wine stains out of my $4k wedding gown - good as new. Do a test swatch first. I add Oxy clean to all my white loads to keep them bright.

Run bleach & hot water through your garbage disposer once a month to freshen it up. Eggshells are good for sharpening the blades.

I agree with cleaning one room at a time. I used to dust my entire house, then I'd vacume the entire house, then I'd clean all the floors. Now I found it saves me time to just do one entire room at a time, and then move on to the next.

Never use paper towel on mirrors. Newspaper only.

To remove wax drips from carpeting or furniture, put a few layers of newspaper over the wax, and run a warm iron over it. The newspaper will soak up most if not all of the wax. Works wonderfully.

Use hairspray to remove ink marks.

Never use oil-based products on Cherry cabinets or certain finishes.

I love Murphy's oil soap for our hardwood floors. I even use it on our tile bathroom floor - keeps it shiny.

Use a box of baking soda in fridge and freezers & closets to neutralize odors. Baking soda & vinegar also works well for cleaning toilets. Keeps them fresh and sparkly clean.

Save your used coffee grounds for your garden - the plants will love it.
