windows on farmhouse - fully divided or 'cottage' style?
Comments (14)Hmmm, is there a way to edit the title of my post? I tried to post a thank you last night, but I don't see it today. So, thanks for the input and pictures and the terminology education. I hate not knowing the right words for things! Oooh, kateskouros - I forgot that I like prairie style windows, we don't see them very much. lsst, I'm afraid the lower mullions will bother me. I've learned in my old age that visual clutter is a problem for me. Ponydoc - I wish we could afford to go with Connor. But we are closely imitating that house. I think your house turned out terrific!...See MoreAnyone use Sash Kits? Wrap Sills in Aluminum?
Comments (3)Well, Brickeyee - what would you do? Replace the entire window, frame and all? Basically we only need new sills and brickmold. The windows are probably okay for another 10 years if we stay on them with paint and TLC. I thought we'd be doing a good thing to replace the sash. What do you think of pvc sills? Every single window contractor has a different recommendation. This is giving me a huge headache. The current windows are 20+ year old wood builder-grade windows. The sills are rotting and need to be replaced. We are in the boonies. Marvin Infinity (fiberglass) is not sold in this area...We've looked at regular Marvin Integrity, Kolbe Ultras, Pella fiberglass, Anderson, Lincoln, Jeldwen, and Sun. All have sash replacement kits...and it seems that is what we need to go with as opposed the the whole window and frame which would require a major tear out. Suggestions?...See MoreBoston Sash?
Comments (7)We are also in MA (20 mi outside of Boston) and went with Marvin's wood window with aluminum clad exterior. Check out the showroom at JB Window & Sash in Chelsea. They are great, that's where we got our windows & they were really easy to deal with. I was surprised that the Marvin windows weren't that much more than Andersen. And they have the 5/8" and 3/4" SDL options both on display. Try to avoid looking at the Emtek doorknobs while you are there ... I did & fell so deeply in lust with them that I wound up buying them :) BTW - we chose 6/1 with SDL in 5/8" and the thicker grilles would have looked ridiculous, so I understand why you like them so much....See MoreTub & Shower window in craftsman cottage
Comments (6)Wow, that makes sense. Don't know anything about marine varnish but I can learn/talk to my GC about. The important thing is it sounds like using wood is okay as long as I take a few special precautions, which I can definitely do....See Moreredheadeddaughter
