Hi to all my old friends. I've been MIA badly this summer.

I've missed this place & all of you too.

I have not had time to do any t-scapes or much of anything else.

I decided to be a pool bum this summer, it has been hot & with us having a pool for the g-kids, I have turned into a lazy, sun-bunny!

To update: Went to Nashville in June for my g-son to record two of his original songs, soon to be on I-Tunes.

Aug. took an 8 day trip to try to recoup some of my energy from helping raise 3 grandchildren. Really needed the time away to just relax.

Sept. will be traveling to Malibu, Ca. for the premier of the Rick Springfield movie "Affair of the Heart" as my g-son is one of the stars of the movie.

Had numerous out of town houseguests this summer too.

Also, currently have a litter of 5 Shih Tzu puppies, 6 weeks old, so as you can see, it's been hectic/busy for me this summer.

Found a CTS on the way home from Nashville & stocked up on some things, but did not find all the cool bargains that Kathleen seems to.

This site has influenced how I travel now, I look for stores that I don't have near me, so I can check them out for goodies! LOL

Hit a Chicago Cutlery outlet, rather two of them on way home in Aug. The second one had all spring decor on sale for 75% off and bought them out of cute spring goodies for me & my g-daughter for future t-scapes.

Now that is a store that has mucho decor for every holiday! Wow, wish I had one closer. Each of the two had huge tables of fall & Halloween decor, too bad I have so much already or I would have bought them out!

It used to be called the Walnut Bowl/Chicago Cutlery outlet, but now they dropped the Walnut Bowl from the name.

Check them out if you are ever near one!

Hope to post a few pics, my g-daugter & I each did a simple t-scape last week one day & they have some cute little things I got while on vacay.

I probably won't be around much til after the Malibu trip, but will share news & pics with all of you (if you're not too bored by my bragging!).

Hey, I should look up decor stores in L.A. anyone know of any I should be looking for ?

Miss you all & hope to be back to catch up in a month or so.

Kathleen, are you in the path of the hurricane, been thinking about people I know who live on the east coast. Stay safe & dry, I heard they down-graded it tonite, so that is good news!!

Hey Yacht. glad to see you back here. Tho I am exhausted just reading what all has been going on with you this summer taking care of 3 grandkids.
Yes I got your email, and once again am far behind in responding to my friends. I am so sorry.
I know how super proud you are of Dustin, and all he does with Rick Springfield. Its been great to see pictures and hear him on videos.

I never heard of Chicago Cutlery, but sounds its a good thing there isn't one here! I'd stay broke and need another house for storage. LOL. I'm nearly at that point now.

I sure hope the hurricane isn't going to affect you guys.
Or any of our gang. Sounds so scary.
We had the fun (NOT!) of a REALLY record breaking day, 117 here. 13 degrees above normal for Aug. No relief till early next week they say. Thank heavens for air conditioning.

Thanks for the warm welcome y'all! Paul, its funny, in an obsessive reading frenzy, I had already seen and had had my eye on that convention. Unfortunately, I think it may be a bit out of my budget this year. On top of the registration fee I am about two to three hours from Nashville. Gas prices are brutal. Maybe next year! I hope to get some pics for you all soon. I was gifted by my darling MIL an orange marmalade yesterday. :)! Man it really brightens up the dark corner of the garden. Bear, I have a huge list for the hummingbirds, be careful what you ask for ;) In general, i prefer natives when I can, and have a pretty good selection of those, but I am not above checking out yet another Fuchsia species or cultivar (I think I have about a dozen hybrids, and three or four species at the moment, depending on what survived the freezes this winter!). And of course the winter stuff I posted in that thread. This last summer I decided to try a bunch of Salvia and Cuphea varieties, and a Nicotiana or two. We will see what made it and comes back. Some of my favorites are unfortunately not that hardy, and I don't have a greenhouse to overwinter the "temperennials". Thanks for the welcome! I'll apologize in advance, if you haven't noticed already, I tend to post long winded replies *grin*. Hopefully that won't be too much...

Hello Hwy66Jan - Welcome to our world! Sounds as if you have a great garden to which you can add many of your own plantings. You are lucky to take over a house and yard that obviously had been owned by other plant lovers! When I moved into my house, all I had were some sickly shrubs, a tree or two (including 4 blue spruces that a previous owner had planted right under the power lines!!) and lots of grass. When I asked the people from whom I puchased the house/yard if they had added any sort of soil ammendments, that said - "Oh yes - RoundUp!!" Wow! The downy grey-green plant you describe sure sounds like mullein to me, too, though I am surprised you found no signs of (now dead) plants with the long flower stalks they get. I have lots of them in the back of my yard. I have some (all of them were volunteers!) that grow up amongst hollyhocks (also volunteers) every year. Mullein can get invasive, but the seedlings are easily pulled up if they grow where you don't want them. A totally care-free, and, in my opinion, worthwhile plant to grow here in Colorado, even if it is a transplant, like most of us. Bees and butterflies also like the flowers, which is another plus for me. If you find out it is some other plant, I would be more than happy to obtain some from you! I live in Westminster; you are welcome to visit my humble garden if you wish to get some ideas of what to do - and what not to do - in the attempt to have a garden sanctuary in Colorado. If you have just moles, then you have the raised tunnels across the yard and no plant damage. They eat earthworms and grubs and such. I've used a castor bean oil repellant with good success. If that's what you have, the repellant will help if used exactly according to directions. It needs to be watered in so it's in the ground at the level the moles are tunneling. Voles are extremely destructive to plants, eating the roots and crowns of many kinds. I lost several hundred dollars worth of hostas many years ago before I realized what was going on and my MIL lost a huge rose bush that literally fell over from loss of roots. I don't know if the repellants work against them or not. A cat is an excellent solution since they think vole and mole hunting is great sport. They usually kill the moles and leave them lying around but will eat the voles. At least that's what our cats have always done. The other solutions are traps or poison bait which can be enclosed in specially designed bait stations. I worry about the poisoned critters being caught above ground before they die and eaten by cats or other predators and then the poison going up the food chain. I've done it in the past when we didn't have outside pets and the neighbors were far enough away that I was reasonably sure no pets were going to get in trouble. But it's not my favorite thing to do. I much prefer letting a cat do my dirty work for me. LOL They will also keep the chipmunk population under control. The mulch, compost, and manure can be stored near each other without problem. Tarps might keep the dogs out but are not really necessary for any other reason. The manure will age better without a tarp and be ready for the garden faster but I understand the need if the dogs are fond of it. We had one that loved to follow the neighbor's cows around and find the freshest pile available to roll in... then thought he was the sweetest smelling thing alive and wanted to be petted! Nasty little critter, but we loved him anyway! LOL

You are one busy lady!!! So glad you stopped by to let us know what's going on in your life. Sounds like everything is positive and I couldn't be happier for you and yours. Be sure and let us know what Dustin's songs are so we can listen to them on our iPhones.

Hope you share some puppy pictures with us.

So good to "hear" such happiness in your post. Very busy, but with fun things! Know those puppies are the sweetest little things--don't know how you can part with them! That is so great that Dustin is getting so much exposure and getting his songs recorded too! You have a right to be a proud Gma. ;o)

Although it sounds like everything is positive, it truly is not. The devil spawn woman continues to throw her evil darts at us, and the court system here moves at a snails pace.

We try to not dwell on it & let it ruin everything for Dustin, he's had enough heartache & deserves some happiness in his life.

He was just featured in a magazine article this past week too. He's turned into a wonderful young man, is not conceited at all & works hard for what he's achieved.

Thanks all for the nice comments.

Probably won't be back on here til after Malibu, I have a full schedule of "To Do's" til we leave.

A good friend of ours was here visiting & took a few pics of the pups, check them out.

Punk, his songs are "Body Bag" (younger people like this one, message is for teens or anyone not to give up on life) and the other is "I Can't Do Anything For You" (some Rick influence in the sound of this one). Dustin wrote both of them, words & music.
