How many steam mops have we sold?

My goodness, we should all have steam mop stock! I am still completely loving mine! I have the Bissell. My only initial complaint was that my finger tired on the trigger. Haven't had that problem since -I may have overdone it the first time! I think I actually like the trigger release because if I want to take my rugs outside to shake, I can leave the mop and it's not steaming away. Also, I can plug it in, then pick up, sweep, etc., and all the steam isn't evaporating. Anyway... three of my girlfriends are now going to get one! Just thought we should start a thread and see how many we've all sold! Three for me!

I've had my mop since Fall '07 and liked it a lot. Last week it stopped producing steam, even though the power was still on. I called and a man told me to refill it 2-3 times slowly and pump the mop, what kind of water was I using, was the pad wet or dry? The trick didn't work. When I called back today another man said I'd have to ship it in for repair, $17+ and $10 for shipping. Or I could have a new mop for $39.95 plus shipping. I told him I haven't even had this 2 years, why would I trust them to fix it or buy a new one? He had no other solutions for me. I paid $100 for a freakin mop, I'm not about to pay more for shipping/repair/replacement!

Hi BW Thanks for the links.. I had already read everything about it when I first saw the postÂ.I donÂt let grass grow under my feet when something new and natural comes out. .lol! I am definitely considering it, but I am a little concerned with all the returns and defective units. Sounds confusing with all the error codes, priming etc. but does spark an interest.. The only thing that I donÂt like, is the water lasts for only 15 minutes before you have to recharge. I also fear that once I buy it, they will make a new and improved one (isnÂt that always the way??) that already happened with one product , as followsÂ.. Long ago I bought the EcoQuest Laundry Pure. It was similar in technology. Worked on oxygen, UV lights and silver technology. It was expensive @ 750.00 (now the units have been reduced) The idea was to clean clothes and sanitize them with sterile, sanitized water, much like the Lotus. At first , I thought it was great, clothes were clean.. Then when I had towels that my kids wiped their hands on and it had surface dirt, it didnÂt come out. After 6 weeks of use, clothes started stretching out.. it was a fight, but I returned it.. there was no way I was losing that kind of money on something that truly didnÂt work and damaged our clothes. I do like the technology of this type of cleaning and I do believe in it, but being this new, they have to work the kinks out. I want to find the Lotus locally, so if I am having the problems as some, I can take it back with out having to do the shipping and waiting game. I am hoping it works like they claim, for this will be truly wonderful! I am willing to give it a try. I called the local stores who are authorized to sell it, but none in stock..so I will wait and call again. If you beat me to it, please let me know what you think! sue it is made for wood floors..no need to dry the floors at all..they are nearly dry from the FM. It sucks up all the water..it's a great machine.. Ree dx they have been around for a while now..I am on 7 years! where have you been?? LOL!!! also, I didn't mean that it was 'hard' to remove the parts or wash them..I just find I have to stop a lot to empty and fill and it is a little time consuming..believe me, if I had one for years and keep buying them..gotta tell you something :) and yes, it amazes me everytime I empty the bucket and see how dirty it is.. I still can't figure it out..I think a lot of it is dust.... probably the same for you! enjoy your clean floors!! Ree

I hate my shark steam mop. I have ceramic tile in dining room & kitchen, hardwood in living room. I've used it about 5 times. Leaves ugly streaks all over my floors & 2 pads are def not enough--they are a mess & washing (even bleaching) does not get them clean! I've gone back to scrubbing on my hands & knees; however today I wanted to do a quick clean up today in front of my door & now the stupid thing won't steam? Talk about frustrating! Colossal waste of money....

I'm one who bought a Bissell steam mop because of you all. It arrived earlier this week and I have to say we already love it.

I chose the Bissell instead of the Shark because of what bestyears wrote: it doesn't have continuous steam, and I wanted the freedom that if I had to drop the mop while still plugged in it wouldn't just burn away.

My youngest child is crawling and putting everything in his mouth, so I love that I don't have to worry about him ingesting whatever junk is in floor cleaners. My older child, who is three, loves "helping" me mop the floors because of the steam (he's in a real fire fighter phase).

It's also super-easy to use: our main floor is ~1600 sq ft, mostly hardwood with some vinyl (laundry) and tile (powder room), and I can get all of it, including the stairs (also hardwood) done with two tankfuls.

Shark does have "continuous steam"..it is activated as you are pushing to mop, so it keeps going until you stop. This is good because you will not "drop" the mop and burn your flooring. The old shark mop had no controll..the steam never stopped, if you put it down for a second, you would burn your floors..it's a Safety feature, and a smart one. The bissell, you have to hold a trigger down for the steam to be released..so it is the same concept. I think they are both good mops..everyone seems happy in what they choose. Interesting question. I've posted about my beloved Hoover Floormate on this and other boards, and people have responded with posts saying they went out and bought one due to my raving about the thing. Ditto for my Electrolux electric broom.

As they say 'word of mouth' is the best recommendation.

I've also been grateful for advice I found here that steered me away from purchasing certain products.

Jannie and Bud,

I "inherited" a Floormate from my Mom who bought it and didn't like it. I love, love, love it! I would probably part with any other cleaning product or tool that I own, but never my Floormate. I'm thinking I may even want to be buried with it! Just Kidding!

I bought the Bissell because of this forum -- the positive comments about steam mops in general and the negative ones about the Shark customer service. [Shark would do well to pay attention to this forum and work on improving that aspect of their business.] I LOVE mine. Easy to use and really works well. We have a grandson in the tummy-scooting phase and it's nice to be able to clean the floors easily with the steam mop instead of his tummy!

reeree (great user id!): thanks for letting me (and the other users / lurkers) know about the Shark and that it has continuous steam only when moving -- my misunderstanding!

I also should have mentioned, as catbird writes, that the negative comments about Shark's customer service was a h-u-g-e turnoff. Huge.

bud -- we also got the Electrolux cordless vac, and it's great, too! I didn't remember whose post(s) turned me on to it, so a belated but sincere Thank You! I love using it on our stairs: it's so easy to maneuver, plus with the built-in "dustbuster" (not sure its official name) I can easily get all bits of the stairs done in one pass. It's great!

There are so many stores that sell the shark mop now (Thank goodness) It truly is a great mop and it really is a shame they have idiots who answer the phonesÂ. I had my problems with CS as well.. but I looked at it that they did not make the mop ..they just answer the phonesÂ I had the original shark steam mop and I LOVED it.. It went ka-put after a year or so and I was up set. .I bought the Eureka "home works" it was ok. .but wasnÂt crazy for it.. so naturally when the new shark came out, thatÂs what I wanted (loved my first one) Some on here has the Bissell and are really happy with it also ÂI am sure it is a great product with itÂs improvements from the past.. back when they were not good at allÂbut like everything else, time and new technology changes everything. The main thing is, they all clean with the same purpose.. hot steam.

Had to check out this thread in case there was a better steam mop making waves :) My first steam mop was an Eureka...several years ago. I can't remember exactly. About 4 or 5 years ago I bought the Bissel Steam Mop...L O V E! I do wish they'd improve the mop cloths tho. Mine get holes in them. So is the Bissel still tops?

I bought my TWO after reading this forum. A SteamFast 4in1 and a Shark.

The SteamFast left my hardwood floors too wet, but is great for all other steam cleaning projects. I bypassed the customer service issue by getting my Shark at the local Sears. Love it. Have made my own mop pads with a stack of inexpensive microfiber car detailing cloths I bought at Costco (something like 36 for $14).

I know of at least two other people that have bought Sharks because of my glowing recommendations on another board.
