We put our heated floor thermostat on a timer. It comes on about 30 minutes before we wake up in the morning, stays on for an hour or so, and then comes on again in the evening for a couple of hours.

This suits all bathroom users except for our cat, who would like it on all the time.

My thermostat has a timer (which I have not delved into yet) and a few preset programs, one of which I am using right now. It basically automatically increases and decreases the temp throughout the day, so I leave it on.

Um....I don't have to shut mine off. It does it all by itself.

Never. I like the security of knowing that if I need to pee in the middle of the night, cold tiles on my tootsies won't rouse me out of my half-awake state.

so I am asuming not much electricity is used if the room temp is coolish.

I have Warm tiles cable as well, it depends on sq. footage how many amps it uses. For my 30 s.f. it is light bulb energy use.
Am not planning to turn off my floor until it is stuffy warm outside...

lindalana--does your thermostat cycle on and off alot? Mine clicks on every 3 - 3 1/2 minutes and then "heats" for @ 30-45 seconds. I didn't think it would have that much trouble retaining the heat. I can hear it in the next room @ 25 feet away.

Hamster, what brand did you purchase? I'm sorry to hear yours is so loud but we just gave our contractor the OK for a heated floor yesterday and I hadn't considered the noise factor.

Anyone else with thoughts about brands they're happy with? (Actually, I just realized I'm asking a different question from the OP--I'm pretty new to this. I can create a new thread if that's more appropriate.)

Mine is a Suntouch with an audible (but not disturbingly so) click. I actually turned it off yesterday since it has gotten warm in the house and dh doesn't want to turn on the air yet but is making noise about the floor heat affecting his comfort. Baby!

We never have shut ours off. I'm sure that's not energy efficient, but in winter, the tiles would be could, and in summer, the AC makes them cold... and we don't like cold tiles.

I have mine mostly on manual, just on. I did some auto for short time and haven't heard any clicks yet, but maybe I was not listening. Will check. I have thermostat from Warm tiles as well, all was from Menards.

Just turned mine off. We love the cool tiles on a warm day.

Ours is from Flextherm. It has a feedback loop (thermostat) and is silent. However, the manual that comes with it is quite confusing. At least it has default settings that you can use while you're figuring it out.

Also, be sure that the warming elements are close enough to your sink to keep your tootsies warm. I challenged my contractor on this just after they installed the wire. He promised the warmth would extend several inches laterally from the wires. It doesn't!!!!!! idiot!!!

I haven't had mine on for at least a month. I'll probably turn it back on in November. Mine makes no noise at all.

piegirltoo -- you're the first person on this forum who has indicated that they have a Flextherm. Mine has been installed, but we're still a couple of weeks away from our 28 -days-after-tile-install to use it. I've got high hopes. Did you use the green wire system?
