4th of July table

I set a table for the 4th and wanted to share.

I have used the dishes before.

The flowers for the CP are from Michaels yesterday, reg. $3.99 on sale for $1!!!

I used blue napkins for the placemats.

The flag flatware is terrific.
You sure got a bargain on the flowers they are great.

Thanks Nana, it seems like we have fewer and fewer posters these days!

The salad plates match the dinner plates and are made to go together. They are not clear.

We just had a frog strangling downpour with pea sized hail.
Shredded my bunting, :(

It is still sprinkling off and on, so may not go to any fireworks tonight.

I hope you have a great 4th!

Punk, It is so dry here that the state has banned fireworks! The stands can sell them, but recommend saving them for New Year's!! Of course, there will be the crazies that still set them off, but it is illegal this year. Any excuse to shop works for me, LOL. Nana, the blue stars are just small dishes that I put votives in for the table. The clear ones are actually votive holders. Jeanne, The TS had the matching mugs too, but I figured this time of year is more lemonade than hot drinks! Probably cause I don't drink coffee, LOL Marlene, I have a few items I am searching for, but the rest just seems to surface at opportune times. Of course, as much as I go to the TS's, it does increase my odds! Kath, this Habitat has lots of different merchandise, unlike some of the others that mainly have building materials and some furniture. It is the best place to buy books! Nana, you have just inspired me to dig out some red,white and blue dihes/items for DH and me to use from now till the 4th. Will be fun to eat off something different from our everyday dishes for a few days. I did put a few patriotic items out on our front patio last week--stuff you've all seen already--so I'm not totally out of the "holiday" spirit. LOL

This week I decided to add a little of Christmas whimsy with a touch of elegance to my Christmas in July Week 3 table. I am using a newly acquired set of dishes that I bought at Goodwill. These dishes had been there on the shelf for several months. I have to admit that I looked at them early on and thought they were cheesy Valentine's dishes. They were on a bottom shelf and stacked with dinner plates, salad plates and bowls on top. The top bowl was the one that is labeled Cupid. So, you see, I thought they were Valentine plates. I never bent down for a closer look since I thought they were a strange color for Cupid and Val Day. I wasn't even interested enough to pick one up. So there they stayed for months, just collecting dust. Last week the local Goodwill was cleaning and dusting and rearranging things and the set of dishes got moved up to a higher shelf. This time, I paused to look at the figure on the Cupid plate and realized that it was a reindeer! How could I have missed these? Well, I guess the important thing is that they were still there that day and now belong to my dish-ease! My friend from the Garden Web forum, Bettyd z7 va, recently used this term and I love it. I put a leaf in my table today to have a little more room. I really hate to hassle with them unless I have company. I am pleased that I chose to do this today. The tablecloth is an after Christmas clearance from Walmart in a gold color. I used a set of gold chargers with a scalloped edge that I think set off the plates nicely. I then layered the dinner plates with a bowl on top for salad and the dessert plate to the upper left of the setting. Here is the Blitzen place setting. I used an off-white set of napkins that features a gold glittery swirl and gold Christmas tree napkin rings with my everyday flatware. I really need to invest in a set of gold tone flatware! The gold stems were found at Big Lots in the spring and the clear goblets were another recent Goodwill find. For a centerpiece I added a glass gold star candy dish in the center of the table flanked by tall gold metal Christmas tree candlesticks and added a roll of gold lacy Christmas ribbon intertwined around the items. Rudolph Cupid Comet Blitzen Now if I just had the matching plates for Donner, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen I would have a great table to use every month on Rudolph Day on the 25th!

Thanks for the compliments! I had so much fun with this table. DS helping made it special. Slinky, I'm hoping he will get more into this "dish-iese" with me. My DD likes them, but with 2 boys and another coming any minute, she hasn't gotten addicted yet. I'm going to start on a purple collection for her. She also says she has no place to keep them and the boys will break them. I may have to find her a china closet on Craig's List or at a thrift store. Mine came from a DAV store. She is sort of bummed out at never having a daughter. We had so much fun when she was growing up. It was basically just the 2 of us since she was 4 years old and she wanted someone to share girly stuff with, too. Thanks, Luvs. I've admired everyone's F&F for so long here. Never found anything on their site that made me want to pay those prices. These pieces were reasonable and fit in with my table. I found the one piece one month and the other piece the next! How cool is that? Donna, Love your table. How long have you collected state plates? My Aunt had a whole wall covered in state plates. I wish I would have asked for one when she died to remember her by. I so admire your napkins. It makes them so special when you make them. Sure wish I could have eaten with you! I LOVE pork BBQ! Candy Thank you for telling me about the plates I love them.
We had severe storms Thursday evening and showers continuing into yesterday morning. When they cleared out we had lovely but cooler weather for the fourth.

It seems to me that Holidays is becoming a ghost town.
Makes me sad.

Love your Table! I don't think I have ever seen your dishes, and if I have, they sure are worthy of seeing again!

Love the big White Pitcher And A Wonderful Bargain on your flowers!

I am wondering if you bought all of this at one time, or like so many times, it is just a collections from over time and then all seems to come together! I always wonder about these things, as that seems to happen to me so much.

The candle with the star is so cute!

Another great job done!! Hope you had a Wonderful 4th despite the weather!

Candy, so glad you found time to set a patriotic ts. Just
beautiful with all the red, wht and blue. Is you pitcher an
old one? I have some of that same dinnerware but need
more to complete my set. Thanks for keeping our Holidays
alive!

I seen those same flowers @ Walmart but didn't buy any yet.
I still have everything packed so don't need to add more to
the stash. If I see them marked down to a $1 might not be
able to resist tho.

Hope everyone has a safe and fun weekend. Not a drop of
rain here which is quite unusual.

Lovely table setting Candy...I too love your plates.
The overhead shot really shows off the neat layering of plates - placemats and napkin, against the checked tablecloth.
Great CP ..those flowers are really pretty and I like the festive spray you added to them.
I too thank you for keeping 'Holiday' going. Both you and Nana are real troopers. I look forward to joining in again once my home

Creek, the dinner plates came from 1 thrift store, the salad plates from another, and the matching glasses from a third thrift store over a couple of years.

Punk, the pitcher had a TJ Maxx sticker on the bottom but actually came from a thrift store. It is made to look like old enamel ware.

Jane, miss you, but will look forward to your posts when your home is complete.
