Along the same theme...

Since we are on a theme of beach tablescapes lately, thought I'd post some pics I took last year which had a similar look although are more blue & white than "beachy". They were from a dinner party we had on a rainy day last summer (thus, again indoors!) I used a light blue tablecloth, brown woven placemats, my large square charger plates and a mix/match of blue bowls/shell plates. I think I like the one I did this year better (Seaside Setting Post) as I didn't have all the shells, etc then but there are so many different things you can do for beach-themed tablscapes, I am already thinking of other ideas. Which do you prefer?

Very pretty! I love floating candles. I like to float roses or hydrangea with candles.
Those cobalt blue bowls are wonderful!

Oh DD..hard to choose..this is a beautiful table settings as well. I just love how the floating candles look in this one and again, the blue, gives it such an elegant look...Well done!!

Color theme issue. White barn theme

Kimber and Becky, just to be clear, you are not fans of the lighter wood tone doors on the white barn? It certainly sounds like most really want that darker roof so I will certainly work hard here to get the best compromise in energy efficiency and appearance. I think I can find a medium in here. Yes, I agree, I think Beth has some great ideas and I want to throw several in but I should add that this is technically a multi use commercial type building in the country and we really have to keep the initial budget in mind while also planning for add-ons. The attached pic might get Beth excited to see what "phase 2" will looking like, which is a complete extension of the roof line, over a 2nd story covered deck, and 1st story sitting area. All the exposed columns would get that weather gray tone, but IMO, that is a LOT to add to the deck as well? This building will have some living quarters, offices, and industrial space at the far end. I am really trying to design this for expansion. I specialize in landscaping so this part is already being planned. Beth mentioned the stone and you bet I would LOVE to add that around the whole building, and hoping later we can do a mod to add a wainscoting of stone, but at the very least, the entrance will be covered with 2 dry stack stone accent pillars.

kitchen layout- sink and refrigerator along the same wall

Because your kitchen is so small, you might be better off with a smaller sink base (27-30") and smaller landing to the left of the range (18"). Then you can fit a cabinet to the right of your sink so it doesn't butt up against the wall; this; will give you some counter space for a dishrack and allow two people to use the sink at the same time (sort of). I think I'd also go with a 30" range instead of 36" but that depends on the way you cook. :) I love the long counter to the right of the fridge!

DD, both table settings are very nice! The flowers, floating candles, and the blue bowls are so pretty with the white dishes and I really love those large candle holders!

Both are different but lovely! I can't choose which one I prefer!!!

I'd have to choose this one because I love cobalt so much.
But still a hard choice between the two settings.

Kathleen, Jane, Mary, Prosperity and Karen, thank you for your comments and opinions. Kathleen, I also like to sometimes put flowers in with the floating candles but certainly wish I had some of the beautiful hydrangeas you get to choose from. The cobalt blue bowls/plates were from the Dollar Store. I have been on the look out for some glasses or other pieces in the same colour (at a cheap price) but haven't come across any yet.

Oh, this is so pretty too. I'm sure your family/friends really enjoy how pretty you make the table look for them. I think the different shapes of the bowls adds to the interest. I too really love blue dishes. Luvs

OK, I am back after reviewing both, I like the first one you did best for the beach theme, but don't get me wrong, I like this one too!

I found cobalt blue glasses that look similar to your clear ones at the Dollar Store here in the spring so keep a check and maybe they will get them in there. Wish I could have found the bowls there also. DH bought some from an Avon catalog for me a couple of years ago that cost more than a dollar!

Thanks Betty. I would LOVE to have glasses that colour so will keep an eye out here! Too bad it is too late for the Avon ones even if they were more expensive...maybe they will make a come back!
