If you have wood floors in bath -- would you do it again?

I know the issue of hardwood floors in master bathrooms is all over this forum, but I have a very simple question, ONLY FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY HAVE HARDWOOD FLOORS in your master bathroom:

Would you do it again?

(And If you don't like them, did you choose to install them or were they there when you bought the house?)

Yes! I love mine. Completely easy care, looks terrific. (I think!)

I installed the flooring myself.

We still like the floors. Been in over 15 years.

Look great. No issues. No damage. No worries.

If I ever built another house, I'd probably use wood again.

My mother had a panel on the first DW in the mid-sixties. She had it installed on the replacement in the '80's. She would have put it on the latest DW, but didn't want to alter the newish floor so went with a shorter DW that couldn't take it. There was nothing wrong with the panel :) This is a flat panel (like her cabinets), not a fancy compound door front. That might make a difference. That is, the location might not be as easy on adhesives and joinery, and it might be harder to make a detailed panel fit a new machine. But nowadays, almost all of the panel DW's are integrated rather than button front, which should make moving the panel easier, as long as they keep making 'em.

Are you putting the two units right together? I think 6 feet of stainless might be a bit much if unbroken, but it depends on the room. And the alcove you are describing might house them nicely and give enough warmth to balance the cool SS. I have 4 feet of stainless and it doesn't bother me. That is surrounded by my blue cabinets, and the two cooler colors are an accent wall - the backdrop for the white and cherry in my kitchen. So I'd say placement makes a difference too. Have you looked at color renderings? Look also at the views as you enter the room from different angles or sit in adjoining rooms. And with 2 units, you can always look at splitting them up. Or what about putting a painted finish on the fridge and freezer with a top treatment to make them look like a huge armoire?

I have stone look laminate flooring in my kitchen and dinning area. At first I didn't like it because it spotted.. But since I bought swiffer It looks great. I didn't buy the swiffer mop...just a refill bottle. poked a hole in the top and squeezed it into a spray bottle...I just spray it on the floor and use my regular mop to do a real quick once over and it looks like new. It has been down for 5 or 6 years now and looks as good as the day we put it down...except in one spot over in the corner some one must have dropped something sharp and pointed and it made a little pointed gouge in it. I never see it and have to look for it to find it. With these three large dogs running and sliding and skidding across it all the time you would think it would be all scratched looking but it isn't. I admit , right now it looks dirty a lot...but I just don't have the energy to keep after those darn dogs. I sure wish there would have been a better solution to that dog problem. I can't wait for that part of all this to be over. patti

I bought a Capital 305 (four regular burners plus a big wok burner in the middle) a year and half ago. I had just joined this forum and had range envy. Viking was going through some growing pains, Wolf was a budge buster. I walked in as they were uncrating this model at the appliance store and it was love at first sight! Would I buy it again? That's a tough one. It was a lot to spend for a 30" range, and the economy is down right now, so probably not. I don't cook any better on this range than I would an a less expensive range but I do cook more often because I like being there, in front of my pretty range, LOL. Dh and I have decided that our next range will be induction, which wasn't available to us in a 30" range when we were shopping. I'm 46, he's 53. If this range lasts 15 years, induction ranges will be common and we'll be old[er] and appreciate the safety of them. Plus I won't need as many pots and pans so I won't cringe at having to get rid of all my stuff for magnetic cookware.

Have you looked at the wood look alike porcelain tiles? I saw some at the tile store and they looked fantastic, came in so many shades.

Brazilian walnut (ipe) has natural tendencies to resist moisture, might be a good choice. expensive though.

Splashing can be wiped up, but what about around the toilet? We have hardwood in our powder room. Yesterday I noticed a puddle-shaped stain behind the toilet. I'm not aware of any condensation on the tank. Did one of the many workmen who have been in our house overshoot and not wipe it up? I don't even want to think about it!

We just had the toilet reinstalled in our remodeled guest bath. We noticed a slow leak a few days later. Fortunately, it's tile. If you have a separate toilet closet, I'd recommend tiling it.

Well-finished hardwood actually is less likely to retain any unpleasant liquids, or their residue, than tile with a cement grout. Grout sucks up moisture unless it is newly sealed.

What usually happens is that it get behind the baseboard, where it is hard to get at. True for tile, vinyl, wood, etc.

Leaving puddles around the urinal is never a good idea, and will cause problems no matter which flooring you choose. Find the puddle maker and tell him/her to knock it off. Look menacing.

If it continues, withdraw the contractor's bathroom priviliges -- he can go get a porta-potty.

Our guest bath has epoxy grout, so I think were safe there, plus no males will be using that bath. We're done with remodeling for this year, so the puddle maker won't be back!

Our oak hardwood floor in the main hallway and powder room has a "Swedish finish", which I believe is a catalyzed varnish. There's no signs of wear and tear after 14 years, except for behind the pedestal sink, where some of the varnish is missing.
