Comments (4)I am considering Artisan on our new build. Our design calls for corner boards. Some of the buil.ders I interviewed wanted to do the mitered corners, but, like you, I worried about the durability. I have 3 teenaged boys. It's not that they are wild, but could only take one wild pitch to have a baseball break those mitered corners. So, I'll stick with the corner boards. I also decided that the corner boards are natural places for the downspouts to be placed. I'm not sure if the downspouts would take anything away from the mitered corner. Those are my thoughts. I don't have any experience, but I do hope someone with experience will chime in! I do think the Artisan is a better looking product, but I'm still trying to decide if it looks twice as good, reflecting the twice as much price....See MoreArtisan Siding (James Hardie)
Comments (2)We did the back and side wall of our house last year and are moving to the front and remaining side beginning in July. We are using the Hardi Artisan Plank in the Sail Cloth. It is, IMHO a fabulous product. The ends are tongue and groove and it lays very flat. Much better than a clapboard type product. My builder, who is a 40 + year in the business, and is excellent, is very happy with it. We used the suggested Hardi blade in a circular saw and it cuts easily and well. #8 nails in the nail gun and it went up well. The finish, with care in handling, has done very well. The finish washes well and a bit of touch-up paint in a few areas and it looks great. I spoke with the Hardi rep for our area and the finish is a 15 yr guarantee. You confirm that! Be aware the the depth of the overlap of the plank is about 1 1/4- 1 1/2" thick. That surprised us and required that we install a 1x sub trim. We then overlaid that with Azek plastic trim. I had real problems with wood trim on our last house and didn't want to deal with it on this one. I don't know how to post pics but with my 20/20 magnified corrected vision it looks great....See MoreHardie Artisan trim with regular Hardiplank lap?
Comments (3)The thing that bothers me about modern construction is that the trim around windows and doors looks thin. My home has Hardi Plank siding, and the trim is 1x4 wood. My trim boards are placed on top of the siding, whereas modern window and door trim is put on first and the siding is butted up against it. It looks like THIS. It's not that the modern method is wrong, but the trim is supposed to be extra thick so it stands out from the siding. So, to answer your question... YES the thicker Artisan trim will make your home look better....See MoreArctic White Hardie lap siding
Comments (1)We have a bring front home with large clapboard on the sides and back - - it's probably a 15 in reveal. We are going to replace it with Hardie because the original siding is rotting away. But I'm unsure about changing to a 7 inch horizontal vertical cedarmill siding (vs smooth). There are nicer options but it gets too pricey. Would love to see if anyone had a similar project....See MoreEden-Manor
